[history]
California's top Democrats scrambled Thursday to defuse same-sex marriage as a political wedge issue that could cause them problems at the polls in November.
As a new statewide poll showed that half of Californians oppose same-sex marriage and hinted of potential difficulties among Democratic and independent voters, key California Democratic officeholders began to express doubts about same-sex marriage, and some were openly unhappy the matter had become an object of national politics in a campaign year.

"I definitely think there are more important things to worry about."San Fran's mayor doesn't think so...

One opinion expressed on Fox was that the reason Feinstein and Boxer are opposing these "marriages" is that if Californians get into the literal interpretation of the constitution argument, the 2nd Amendment might be more difficult to attack.

"If you don't like a law, the way our system works, you try to change it. If you believe the law is unconstitutional, you bring the case to court, and it is up to a court of law to interpret the law," Feinstein told The Chronicle.
She means not interpret, but 'fix' it so you can get married. Exactly the reason why the homo lobby is going to lose another huge battle that will make 'Don't ask, don't tell' look like a fortune cookie suggestions.
P.S. This kind of crap in SF would have never happened under Wile E Brown.

It's just another example of the Democrats taking all sides of all issues so that they can later selectively quote whatever will promote their goal of the day.

2/3 of the country is against gay marriage and this is only going to hurt the Rats come elecion time. This is why Feinstein, Boxer, Barney Frank and the like are so worried about it continuing.

Pelosi, in a written statement, said she "is focused on defeating the proposed constitutional amendment, which would write discrimination into the U. S. Constitution. Never before has an amendment to the Constitution been used to discriminate against a group of people, and we must not start now.''Keep repeating the Big Lie, Nancy. The lie that choice in sexual partners is equivalent to being black, white, etc.
I've never met anybody who has changed their ethnicity. Homosexuals have changed orientation.....and that's a fact.
There is no 'gene' that makes one a homosexual, contrary to what leftist 'crypto science' tries to suggest.
We can use that position to prove a point, however. Let's examine pedophiles:
Let's for arguments sake say there is a defined pedophilia gene. Is Nancy going to argue for equal protection? Is Nancy going to issue 'licenses' to such people? Would society accept this 'genetic' evidence in court, and find a person who rapes a 5 year old not guilty?
If we arrive at that point, we would indeed be a very sick society.
Again, let me stress that this gay gene theory is a crock. It's a way of attempting to assign a sub group status to people who choose a certain behavior.
To: Libloather
Secondly, going back to the biological basis for homosexuality, not all genetic variations imply a normalcy, which is the suggestion being made. Attempting to make a propensity for deviate behavior equal to having brown eyes, etc.
What of Down's Symdrome? Cystic Fibrosis?......and the whole spectrum of genetically based maladies? Are these normal? Of course not. We attepmt to treat them because we realize that they are morbid conditions.

She has to run statewide, including non-liberal counties. Pelosi and Lantos don't -- they have nice safe liberal seats. If she weren't facing an '04 statewide election, she would be talking out of the other side of her mouth.

....let me stress that this gay gene theory is a crock. It sure is. For one thing, the gene would have died out (or at least become rare) years ago, since queers reproduce at a much lower rate than heterosexuals. Homosexuality is just another fetish, like a foot fetish, brought on by early life experiences, per this article from the Economist (Feb 12 2004):
If humans become conditioned by their experiences, this may be the reason why some people tend to date the same "type" of partner over and over again. Researchers think humans develop a "love map" as they grow upa blueprint that contains the many things that they have learnt are attractive.
.....Yet the idea that humans are actually born with a particular type of "soul mate" wired into their desires is wrong. Research on the choices of partner made by identical twins suggests that the development of love maps takes time, and has a strong random component.
.......This work may help the understanding of unusual sexual preferences. Human fetishes, for example, develop early, and are almost impossible to change. The fetishist connects objects such as feet, shoes, stuffed toys and even balloons, that have a visual association with childhood sexual experiences, to sexual gratification.

Pelosi needs to just keep repeating this. Doesn't make the Dims look good cause they chose her to be their leader.

You're right. If this is a genetic thing then find a cure. Of course its not genetic. I have said it before but it bears repeating. If it was genetic than Our Lord wouldn't condemn it. Romans, chapter 1, verses 22-32.

I want this to be an issue in November. I think I'm going to get my wish.

.......This work may help the understanding of unusual sexual preferences. That's exactly what it is. It's a misdirected sexual outlet.
It really doesn't take much common sense to see this.
Men and woman were clearly meant for each other, yet these liberal academics and crypto-scientists continue to insist that a square peg is a match for a circle.

Romans, chapter 1, verses 22-32.I take the Biblical view, as you seem to. However, for someone who has chosen the secular point of view, they fail this test as well. Poster expatpat provides an example in post 15.
Evolutionary theory does not favor creatures that cannot reproduce on their own.
To those who believe in evolutionary theories, I would suggest that homosexuals are something akin to a virus.
