Explosive Story: GOP has asked British SS to bug phones of American political candidates!
Posted on 02/15/2004 8:36:43 AM PST by Hillary's Lovely Legs
FOX NEWS 11:25am EST 2-15-2004
Fox news is interviewing John Loftus, Formers Justice Department Prosectutor who states that he has an inside scoop that "the Republican Party has asked the British Secret Service to bug phones of American political Candidates. "
FOX NEWS Eric Shawn: "It's a very serious and very shocking story."
JOHN LOFTUS: "That allegation seems very storng of that is the case. Why would any political party want to bug someone else?
It's a juicy way of running a smear campaign behind the works. We have been doing that for about 50 years and it started with president Roosevelt. He had signed a secret treaty with Britian in 1943 that let them each set up listening posts on each other's soil with no search warrants. It's a great little scheme. "
"So the British can use American computers to bug American politicians, and the Americans can use British computers to bug British politicians and each side can truthfully say that they aren't spying on their own citizens. They are just trading information under the table."
ERIC: How widespread is this. Members of the Security Council admitted to me that they are being bugged and that it wasn't surprising, they expected that.
JOHN: "What congress doesn't realise is that this is meant to favor one party only. In 1978 Carter tried to ban taping without a court order. So the bill is that the NSA cannot target american citizens, but not other countries from doing it. "

Everybody calm down. Do a quick Google search on "Loftus, Echelon". This story is ancient. Loftus has had a decades long fixation on Echelon. He's just using the current election to pull out his tired conspiracy theory, but the system is decades old, international, and NOT tied to the GOP, RNC, etc.

American computers record every long distance phone call everywhere in America all day. Targeting means that they sift through that haystack to find the needle. They program it to search for a democratic candidate's voice and retrieve all conversations. Suuuuuuuure they do.

I am worried this coudl be true. However, FNC often puts less than credible sources on their shows because FOX more than any other station, are ratings hounds.

"It sounds more like a coup to me."
Let me indulge in a little tin-foilery: Your statement above makes me nearly literally shudder. With all the wild accusations as of late from the DNC side of fence, how far do you think they'll go in their desperation? They are desperate, and cornered. Coups do happen, and we should be considering it.

They'll go as far as we let them. If we put up with this, on our heads be it.
To: mewzilla
Oh, I agree, but it doesn't mean they won't try it. They start a coup, we'll finish it.

We are more divided by political party and ideology than ever before in this country. Party politics seems to have deteriorated to gang warfare. The power hungry, monied elite, who commandeered the parties, used to exhibit a certain "honor among thieves" at least to their mutual benefit. Perhaps we have come to that time, as before in history, when one group is so obsessed with running the whole business that they are willing to "scorch the earth" in desperate hope they will somehow survive.

BTW, as far as I'm concerned, this is no different than what the Beeb tried to do in Britain. Maybe we need a new term to describe an organized and willful attempt by the media to predetermine the results of an election.

They've already started it.

This is typical of the insane agit-prop this lunatic puts out:
"Heir to the Holocaust
According to classified documents from Dutch intelligence and US government archives, President George W. Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush made considerable profits off Auschwitz slave labor. In fact, President Bush himself is an heir to these profits from the holocaust which were placed in a blind trust in 1980 by his father, former president George Herbert Walker Bush."

well, except for that little period between 1861 and 1865 That would be the primary "as before in history" event that came to mind.

Thank God for the internet. I know that trust but verify is still the watchword, but for information that we can search for, sift through, and decide on our own about, it can not be beat.
The media can go to...you-know-where.
To: mewzilla
It is borderline criminal irresponsibility for Fox News to even report this guys story.
Mind you, Fox News had the truth about W's "AWOL" story dumped in their laps. They've had the Jane Fonda Kerry connection story dumped in their laps.
And this is the sort of crap they go with. They are beyond incompetent.

Yes, let's look to history to see where these types end up.
Let's start with France and Marie Antoinette.

Oh, God, let's not go there. It would be just like Bush to be the only one to get nabbed for something that has been done forever!
