U.S. military and Justice Department officials tell NBC News that a U.S. Army National Guardsman was taken into custody Thursday at Fort Lewis, Wash., and charged with attempting to pass intelligence information to the al-Qaida terrorist network.

The officials said that Anderson was caught up in a sting operation conducted jointly by the Army, the Justice Department and the FBI. Anderson, however, is currently being held and charged only by the Army. Anderson is a Muslim, officials said.

Converting to the Muslim faith five years ago, he said the tour of duty will be an interesting experience.

I hope Ryan Anderson's time in custody will be a far more interesting experience.

The last soldier to be executed during wartime was Pvt. Eddie Slovik, shot for desertion in 1945. He was later portrayed by Martin Sheen in a made-for-TV movie.

Soldier Said Accused of Helping al-Qaida

SEATTLE - A National Guardsman stationed at Fort Lewis was arrested Thursday and charged by the Army with trying to provide information to the al-Qaida terrorist network, a federal law enforcement official said.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that Spc. Ryan G. Anderson was charged with "aiding the enemy by wrongfully attempting to communicate and give intelligence to the al-Qaida terrorist network."

It was not immediately known what information Anderson allegedly provided.

Anderson was being held at Fort Lewis, an Army base near Tacoma.

A message left with the Lt. Col. Stephen Barger at Fort Lewis was not immediately returned Thursday. Base spokesman Joe Hitt said he was not aware of the report, and messages left with Army officials at the Pentagon were not immediately returned.

Anderson, 26, is a tank crew member from the National Guard's 81st Armor Brigade, a 4,000-member unit set to depart for Iraq for a one-year deployment.

America can be hit. America can be hurt. Americans can be bamboozled by jihadi propaganda. We can convert America to the Kingdom of Saudi America. Laugh if you want.

Oh, I'm not laughing, I've posted similar thoughts, too. I'm only sarcastic about how people bristle at the thoughts of profiling and labeling even if it means weeding out muslims who wish to do us harm from within. They embrace and proudly wear their pc on their sleeves, while it bites them in the butt. Sadly, some people just don't seem to get that they mean to do us harm.

I just am stymied by young men like Anderson who apparently convert to Islam for the sake of 'helping' the fifth column. Why? Sad and scary. Scary that they can be taken and turned by such hateful propaganda that they wish to cause harm and death to fellow Americans, innocent people targeted randomly.

Friends of mine expressed shock when I came out for profiling. But then agreed that they would be for it too. People need cover to speak their mind. I'm usually happy to provide it. Have had some entertaining discussions with lefties, who get shocked when I don't agree with their usual shibboleths and rant on about Force Majeure.

Profiling is a rational sane response based on more than race, religion or ethnicity.

Think blue eyed homegrown jihadis, euros, bosnians, chechens and now, women.

Dumb cluckery is everywhere.

Religous indoctrination combined with a hate ideology can be a potent combo. Gradually your worldview changes and the deaths of infidels to achieve utopia on earth becomes immaterial and irrelevant.

The young can be particularly vulnerable.
