U.S. military and Justice Department officials tell NBC News that a U.S. Army National Guardsman was taken into custody Thursday at Fort Lewis, Wash., and charged with attempting to pass intelligence information to the al-Qaida terrorist network.
The officials said that Anderson was caught up in a sting operation conducted jointly by the Army, the Justice Department and the FBI. Anderson, however, is currently being held and charged only by the Army. Anderson is a Muslim, officials said.

from a cnn story
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/02/13/natl.guard.arrest/index.html
When asked if Anderson is a Muslim, Barger said, "Religious preferences are an individual right and responsibility, and I really can't get into it."
Sources said Anderson converted to Islam several years ago.

1) Says in post his age is the same as reported in the news.
2) Says his name is Ryan Anderson in post.
3) Says in post that he graduated same time as in news reports
4) Attending Washington State University at right time
5) Stated that he owns Enfield rifle same as reported earlier in this thread.
6) Stated that he was in Army just as reported in news.
7) States in post that he converted to Islam just as news reports state.
I started my search by searching usenet for "Ryan Anderson" and "Enfield" as well as "Ryan Anderson" and "Washington" and various combinations. It seems rather obvious that this is him to me but it could be someone with a remarkably similar life and name.

Islam has declared war on the west, especially the USA, but we have not declared war on Islam, which is what needs to happen. We are fighting an enemy that does not have borders or any one homeland. They should not allow friggin muslims in our armed forces. They can't be trusted, their loyalty to Islam supercedes their loyalty to our country.

Confirmed:
"Dr. Marina Tolmacheva, a history professor at Washington State, said that Specialist Anderson took three classes from her in 1996 and 1997 focusing on Middle Eastern history and Islamic civilization and that his grades were substandard."

Good Afternoon, just saw the thread...
Just what is the "official" method of execution for this? I do know that the penalty for desertion used to be "shooting by musketry", and the efficient military hangman took care of the rest.
However, in today's PC world, do we have years of appeals, and if denied, the guy gets the quiet needle? This is not even close to a punishment fit for Treason.
I prefer the suggestions previously posted of a HANO jump, the rope (lubricated with pure, unadulterated lard), or, since he loves Al Queda so much, let him be a suicide bomber on a live fire range somewhere....all that is needed is a suitable satchel charge, duct tape, and handcuffs.... he can run his final seconds out in any direction he so chooses. Or, what is listed in my tagline.

Interesting and depressing.
When I was reading this, it occured to me that Timothy McVeigh (whose conversion to Islam seems to be rumored but never proven) was probably this type of person.

Bullets cost money give the little bastard a scrupulously fair trial followed by scrupulously fair hanging that way you can reuse the rope on the next treasonous SOB that tries this sort of stunt.
