SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.
The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

And there is this. don't think it's been posted.
Islamic extremists invade U.S., join sleeper cells By Jerry Seper
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
(Snip) "In announcing the talks, Gen. Musharraf said his military-led government would act to "eradicate" religious extremists in Pakistan. "We will get to them, I am sure," he said.
But U.S. and foreign intelligence authorities said terrorist training camps have been documented in some of western Pakistan's remote areas and in the disputed regions of Kashmir, and that
military officials and others in the Musharraf government have not fully disassociated themselves from al Qaeda or the former Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
Some U.S. officials have privately expressed concern that members of Pakistan's intelligence community have assisted in the concealment of al Qaeda members and associates.
In December, the government of India said terrorist training camps in Pakistan and Kashmir that had been closed after the September 11 attacks on the United States had been reactivated, mostly along the disputed border area near the so-called Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian government said its army had photographs and other evidence of ongoing terrorist training, much of which was turned over to U.S. officials. That information included satellite photos and communication intercepts, U.S. law- enforcement authorities said, that documented 60 to 70 camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as well as in Pakistan.
Officials at the Indian Embassy in Washington declined comment."

Gold futures trade near two-week high
By Myra P. Saefong, CBS.MarketWatch.com
Last Update: 10:09 AM ET Feb. 10, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Gold futures climbed Tuesday to touch their highest level in nearly two weeks as traders continued to bet that more weakness is in store for the dollar.
Gold for April delivery rose as high as $411.10 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange -- a level it hasn't seen since Jan. 28. At last check, it traded at $409.80, up $2.40.
"The foreign exchange market continues to have a large strangle hold over short-term price action at the moment," James Moore, an analyst at TheBullionDesk.com in London, said in a note to clients.
Traders are also "awaiting Wednesday's address to the Senate by Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan for further signs of a policy change towards interest rates," he said.
"For the moment gold seem comfortable back in the $405 to $415 range, but indicators are pointing towards a test higher again with a re-test of $430 being the metals target," he said......(Snip)

Musharraf acting like Yahya Khan: Benazir ANI[ MONDAY, FEBRUARY 09, 2004 07:29:44 PM ]
WASHINGTON : Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is acting like the country's erstwhile military dictator Yahya Khan, claimed former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto over the weekend.
Addressing a news conference here, Bhutto demanded the formation of a six-member commission that should include two nominees each of her Pakistan People's Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and two nominated by General Musharraf to probe the nuclear leak..
"Unless our nominees are part of any probe commission, we will not accept it as independent as we have seen many official investigations which distort and deform the truth and punish the innocent while protecting the guilty," she was quoted by the Daily Times, as saying.
Bhutto said it was a pity that when the nation's nuclear program and security was under threat, the people of Pakistan were not being taken into confidence.
General Musharraf's decision to "go it alone would never work. All individual decisions are neither democratic, nor Islamic nor in the national interest," she warned.
She said she did not believe that what A Q Khan had said on television was of his own volition. "He could have been threatened with total ruin," she added.
When asked why he would have agreed to implicate himself, she said he could have been coerced. She said the need of the hour was to save Pakistan 's nuclear program, and indeed, Pakistan itself.
She said this was the moment to forge national unity and it was time she and Nawaz Sharif were allowed to return home.
Benazir said the somersaults taken on the nuclear issue had revealed a lack of coherence and leadership.
She said Pakistan needed a transparent system of government where the public's right to know should be completely unfettered.
Referring to the position taken by General Musharraf, she said, "If you tell one lie, then you are obliged to tell 10 more lies to justify the first one."
Benazir also denied that she had received any assurance from any quarter that she was welcome to return to Pakistan whenever she chose.
When the Daily Times drew her attention to the rumour circulating in Pakistan that US government representatives had conveyed such an assurance to her, she said: "I wish that was so and I could return to Pakistan , but there is no truth to these rumours."

That was kind of what I was wondering.
I'd love to see the demographic profile of thos 790 people. Anyone care to bet that the overwhelming majority are male, between the ages of 17 and 35, who have attended madrassas and possibly trained in Afghanistan?
Is this an influx of new militants for Saudi? Or have they stolen identities of people returning to the US and Europe?
I think someone had better start looking for these people.
To: StillProud2BeFree
I wouldn't bet you five cents on that one!

On the other hand it could be innocuous - maybe they've just gone to visit Michael Jackson at Neverland.
Sorry, I can't believe I just said that.

Are you at all familiar with the Delmart Edward Vreeland story (fairy tale?)?
I came across it while doing a search on "red mercury". Clancy in his wildest dreams could not come up with a scenario like this one. I was wondering if you or anyone had done any research on this topic. If not, check it out. It definitely makes for a gripping read, true or not.

I always wondered if Al Qaida would attempt an Invasion of the US Mainland a la "Invasion USA". Sure is low tech, and in time they could have amassed a Small Army on our shores. With small arms in an Urban Area, they might be able to last for a while. Having 1000 armed and motivated soldiers in an American City(ies) The net effect would cause Martial Law to be enforced and would certainly hurt our Economy more than anything.
