Poll: Bush approval hits new low

President Bush's approval among Americans has sunk to a new low, and Sen. John Kerry would likely win the presidential election if it were held today, according to a new USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup poll.

In addition, support for going to war with Iraq also dipped below 50% for the first time, to 49%. The proportion of Americans who were certain that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to develop them before the war fell dramatically. More than four in 10 Americans, 43%, said the Bush administration deliberately misled the public about whether Iraq had outlawed weapons.

In the 2000 election, there was not enough of a consevative base to elect Bush. It took the democrats in WV and Nader splitting the dem vote in FL. Also don't forget that McCain ran to the left of Bush in the primary and quite well.

You forget that 4 million evangelical Christians stayed home in 2000. Bush didn't have his base as consolidated as he thought. If he had, the election wouldn't have been so close. McCain was even less successful than Dean - he was never a legitimate frontrunner.

100 million Americans stayed home in 2000. Turnout was only about 53%--normal for recent elections.

People always talk about non-voters coming out for a certain candidate but they never do. Bush did very well with conservatives and Christians who actually do vote in 2000. Can't say he'll have as much luck in '04/

BTW, the only ones worried about the spending being too much are CONSERVATIVES. If we want to cut spending we have to vote for conservatives.

Listen to the Democrats for once, folks, they call Bush's 40% increase in the Education Dept "underfunding the NCLB Act". They demand he spend more on giving aid to cities, states. They hated the drug bill because it COST TOO LITTLE. And Kerry alone proposes in his campaign close to $300 billion in new psending (go to NTU website for stats).

ALL others will do something else...

its not a question of weather you like Bush, theres simply no other rational CHOICE..
THATS what pisses me off.. and I will whine all the way to the election booth, even IF Bush makes a faux right turn.. or a real one.. I did'nt like Bush in 2000 when I voted for him then either..

what it does show is the media's power to shape the outcome, and to use polls to do it. just like when they destroyed Dean. all of a sudden, Kerry was "moving" their Iowa polls said. with no apparent reason, but still, he was "moving". and since everybody wants to vote for the perceived winner, when the magical polls show a trend, then real voters actually jump on board. what we are seeing now are the effects of that initial Newsweek poll showing Kerry winning. the undecideds who want to be with a winner, jump to Kerry.

this is the mechanism by which the media uses bias polling to shape the outcome they want.

2. Trip to MARS
3. NEA Budget Increase
4. $521 Billion Deficit
5. Medicare Prescription Drug Increase $150 Billion

That's why I have the TV off most of the time these days, and don't read anything the leftist media says.

you have to accept the fact the the Dem base is gone, forget them on any issue of national security. Any aspect of the iraq effort or the war on terror has a maximum public support of 57-60%. and that's enough frankly, Bush should try to hold onto that and not even fret about the Dem base.
