President Bush's approval among Americans has sunk to a new low, and Sen. John Kerry would likely win the presidential election if it were held today, according to a new USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup poll.

In addition, support for going to war with Iraq also dipped below 50% for the first time, to 49%. The proportion of Americans who were certain that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to develop them before the war fell dramatically. More than four in 10 Americans, 43%, said the Bush administration deliberately misled the public about whether Iraq had outlawed weapons.

As the election approaches, Bush will:

  1. Continue to move closer to the Democrat position on various issues
  2. Move toward slightly toward the right
  3. Remain stationary

This only reflects the high visability that the dems have had on tv and in print 24/7 during the primaries.

Why expend ammo when you don't have the target in sight. Bide your time.

Bush's pollster predicted this. When he gets his campaign rolling, he'll flatten Botox Johnny. All he has to do to get a big bounce in the polls is to show up in Baghdad on Halloween wearing a Navy flightsuit.

I just don't buy the swing in voters in a three week period. These polls get out of hand in their predictions. I also don't see the Republican/Democrat breakdown the who was polled.

Dukakis was 15 pts ahead and lost 40 states. After botox and the discussion about is he or is he not a gigalo and bushes 225 million dollars john kerry has as good a chance of winning as mikie in 88
(obviously assuming he doesn't make any huge mistakes-otherwise hee loses 50 states)

Don't forget his selling out conservative issues.

Nothing like losing your base. If Zogby called this household, it doesn't matter who answers the phone. Bush would get sent a VERY negative wake-up call.

Not to worry--there's always the chance of Rove and Rice dragging Osama up from the White House dungeon... ;)

I seem to be always in the minority now - I support W - in spite of the immigration thing. I look at it this way - he knows more than I do about present circumstances and has better advisors than I do.

And I trust him. He has my vote.

No one ever calls me for my opinion :-(

Considering most Americans haven't a clue who John Kerry IS, let alone his positions on the issues, I have a real problem buying this.

The liberal media is salivating over destroying Bush. Their stories don't even come close to the truth anymore. They don't even try to pretend they are fairminded anymore.

I will vote happily for President Bush. (I live in Massachusetts, so that'll make a big difference /irony). My two biggest issues: War on Terror, and the appointment of constitutionalist judges.

I fully expect him to win. But even with a landslide there won't be enough to bust the unconstitutional Democ filibusters on nominations.

I have no trouble buying this in one respect. The only picture that most of the masses have of Kerry is the rosey one that is painted by the Liberal press. The only picture they have of Bush is the negative one painted by that same press. That press will keep hammering on "Bush lied" and "Jobless recovery."

Meanwhile President Bush is driving many of his base to feel uncomfortable voting for him. They may stay home, while those in the middle will do the "comfortable" thing and vote for that nice young man Clinton Kerry. It looks more and more like the circumstances that beat his father.

This BS poll was bought and paid for by the Kerry/Kennedy Clan.

Teddy Dearest, this poll that we bought and paid for, proves that we are beating the evil GW.

So GWB didn't sign/endorse the Education/Farm/Prescript Drug/NEA/2.4 trillion dollar budget(20%increase in three years).

He has closed the borders/dismantled the Dept of Education/cut government? Stood up to the democrats
in the Congress? Went to bat for his judicial nominees?

Yep. I'm glad to see this thread isn't overrun by those who think this poll is some kind of liberal media conspiracy. Whomever has the focus gets a polling boost, which is why the conventions always give a big boost. Legitimate polls will see-saw until the second convention, ours. From then on, absent some tremendous tactical blunders, Bush will stay ahead.
