The Delta Airlines terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York was evacuated due to a women who slipped past security screeners after setting off the metal detectors. More to follow as information is released.

The funniest part was after they found nothing incriminating, a hardened 50 year old D.C. cop insisted on stuffing my underwear back into my bag after he yanked them out of the side pocket.

I guess he felt kinda stupid after he frisked me and thought the pack of smokes in my jacket pocket was a pistol ;)

I would doubt that, judging from what I have seen when I go through the gates.

If this woman took off, I seriously doubt that she was a "scrapbooker" - or if she was, she was so psychotic she would have been a threat whether wearing a hijab or not.

I get stopped all the time, primarily, I suspect, because I'm self-employed but travel a lot, and because my passport was issued in a foreign country (because the original had been stolen there). They go through my stuff, and that's that.

Actually, since the new standards have gone into effect, I haven't been stopped at all, probably because I have been "vetted" by now. But anybody who takes off running is not just a nervous nellie who didn't want to give up her craft knife.

Like I said, until the airlines in this country get their act together, I'm only going to fly El Al.

One of the *many* differences between them and the airlines here is that they profile for terrorists while ours profile for weapons.

I think we're starting to profile for terrorists, too. And I think we've refined our profiles, as I mentioned in an earlier post. We'll be catching more of them, I'm sure, although it may not be mentioned very much.

Remember, in terms of population and territory, Israel is a flyspeck compared to the US. Furthermore, not all the world wants to go to Israel, but it appears that all the world does want to come to the US.

So it's naturally going to be a lot harder for us to put everything in place and refine our profiles, but I think a lot of progress has been made.

Another thing that will help is the new incoming and outgoing thumbprint system that's going into effect in Jan. (for non-citizens only).

You'd be surprised at how many Arabs fly in and out of Israel. It's pretty much the only functioning airport in the area that offers more than a few flights in and out of the neighborhood. Lots of people fly in there and then get cab or car rides to surrounding countries.

Probably because, all religious issues aside, Israel is the only functional modern country in the entire region. My son spent some time in the military there a few years ago, and he said that the only people he could understand in any way, as an American, were the Israelies. Outside of Israel, the entire region regressed about 1500 years.

Well, the religion was founded in the 7th century, and things went downhill from there. In its initial phases, just after its founding, it served to unite various formerly warring pagan Arab/Persian groups and gave them the power to sweep though the Middle East, wiping out the Jewish and Christian populations.

After taking over Spain (invited by the Visigothic kings, who had been using Arab mercenaries to fight their internecine wars for some time), it went through a period where it fed on Roman-Spanish culture. It was, remember, a very new religion, and many of its own doctrines had not coalesced - for example, figurative art was still allowed.

Then this group was conquered by an even more radically knowledge-hating group of Muslims from North Africa, and so it has gone to this day.

From the 7th century to now, Islam has been on the side of death, violence and ignorance.
