SADDAM HUSSEIN CAPTURED
Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been captured in his home town of Tikrit, according to reports.
There has been no independent verification of the news but Sky New's Foreign Editor Tim Marshall says the source of the news is usually reliable.
The US Defence Department says it has had no confirmation of the claims, which come from Iraqi Kurd leader Jalal Talabani, says the Iran news agency IRNA.
Hundreds of exultant people have taken to the streets of Kirkuk, firing weapons into the air in celebration.
A press conference has been announced for 12pm GMT.
In Baghdad, a spokeswoman for the US-led operation notified reporters that a "very important" announcement will be made at the press conference.

The best way to celebrate is by removing another murderous arab-muslim dictator!

I was just over lurking at DU to see how apoplectic they are and it was quite entertaining! One said they are "depressed" over the capture of Saddam and giving up on politics forever. What a bunch of anti-American losers.
What's really depressing is that they are part of party (along with a whole bunch of other losers) that only succeeds when horrible things happen to the people of their own country.
Some of the posters at DU are traitorous thugs and should be put in a stockade alongside Saddam next to the WTC site!!!

If his own people didn't kill him before, what makes you think they would now? His goons aren't pointing guns at them now?
Actually Baghdad might not be the best place to misplace him, although the Shiite parts would do. Basra (Shiite South) or Kirkuk (Kurd North) would be good. Other posts indicate the Kurds got the word early and are partying hearty.

If Howard Dean had his way, Saddam Hussein would be in power today, not in prison.

I hope that the Bush Campaign runs this clip in its campaign commercials when Dean gets the democRAT nomination.

With the capture of Saddam Hussein, Howard Dean needs a new shadow VP candidate.

This is AMAZING! Saddam Hussein was captured during the Christmas season. The only thing that would be better would be if Osama Bin Laden were captured on Easter.

I know I'm going to catch heat for this, but I sort-of feel sorry for the guy. I know he was a ruthless murderer, but he never really stood a chance. I don't know why we went to war with Iraq; I do not believe he was a threat to us, the WMD was a sham excuse to go in. There might have been a good reason to go in, but that wasn't it. If one just tries to think with a clear head on this, what Saddam kept telling the UN was true: he didn't have WMD. What more could he say? He was guilty no matter what he did. Don't tell me about the "UN resolutions" the UN is a puppet of the US; they have no real power and they are merely a pacifier to the rest of the world for our actions. I'll be honest; I don't like Bush. He's destroying this country by letting illegals pour in, he's NOT for a smaller government, he doesn't care that all of our jobs are going overseas. He's given to the democrats just about everything they wanted. I would not be surprised that this capture was "timed" so that the heat would be off him for what he allowed the Supreme Court to do last week. No one's talking about that any more; are they? All of the loyal Bushbots are back in lock-step behind him. As I said, I know that Saddam is an evil man, but he never had a chance once our great country and Armed Forces set out to get him. Just look at his face; he is a third world tin-plate dictator who was never really a threat to us. (I did not say he wasn't a threat to HIS people). Try to look beyond devotional love for Bush and look at it logically. In my opinion. :)
