I just heard the news about finding her shoe. My heart sunk.

I just hope they find her soon for the sake of her family.

Thank you for the correction. Do you know which town would be the closest to that locale?

Neither North Dakota or Minnesota has the death penalty, so plea bargaining for life (rather than death) means nothing.

The warrants should be unsealed today.

One other piece of evidence: the knife sheath found near Dru's car matches the buck knife found in Rodriguez's car.

I just heard the news about finding her shoe. My heart sunk.

I felt the same. And last I heard, Rodriguez's attorney is still telling him not to talk. How I hate these vermin.

Well, the Red Lake River flows from the Upper Red Lake, in northern MN to the Red River which is the border between ND and MN. According to reports, the shoe was found at the intersection of Highway 75 and the Red Lake River. This is approximately the same area that her cell phone signal was coming from.

The cell phone signal was coming from the Fisher's landing area. Fisher's landing is about 1/2 way in between where she was abducted and where the perp lives. About perp's house and abduction location are about 25 miles apart.

Divers were sent out to look for more clues in the Red Lake River, earlier last week, which is the likely time and place the shoe was found.

The first thing defense lawyers tell their clients is to shut up. I doubt if Rodriguez will talk unless he's given a gift by the prosecutor, and that ain't about to happen.

No death penalty? So does this mean he will be infiltrated with the other inmates? They will take care of him, and God Forgive me, I hope they do.

I know, he's "just doing his job". But don't you wonder how he sleeps at night?

The lawyer is a public defender and it is well known around here that he HAS to take the case, it was his turn. He didn't ask for it.

But if he kidnapped her in North Dakota and she is found in Minnesota, it's very likely that they will bring federal kidnapping charges against Rodriquez, and therefore the death penalty will apply.

Kidnapping and Bank Robbery are federal.

Nice map. I wonder if they found it to the east of 75. I see that 75 runs right through Crookston. I thought it (the shoe) was found to the east...

Blood In Suspect's Car Matches Dru Sjodin's DNA

POSTED: 1:30 p.m. EST December 9, 2003
UPDATED: 1:39 p.m. EST December 9, 2003

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Grand Forks County Sheriff Dan Hill on Tuesday confirmed authorities have a preliminary match of blood found in the car of kidnapping suspect Alfonso Rodriguez, Jr., with DNA from missing University of North Dakota student Dru Sjodin.

Hill also told The Associated Press that searchers found one of the missing woman's shoes near the Red Lake River early in the week after she disappeared. He said the shoe was identified by one of Sjodin's college roommates. It's the only piece of clothing recovered so far.

Also notice that the river goes through an Indian Reservation.

If she was found on the reservation, what laws would apply?

I do know that if you commit a crime in a National Park, it's also a federal crime. When I lived in Yosemite Park, we were told that even a parking ticket was a federal offense. It could be true, or something that I was told to scare the heck out of me.

This scum should suffer the way poor Dru must have suffered.
For the life of me I can't believe that this creep was let out of jail into society. Too bad he's in a cell by himself reading a book! He should be out with the rest of the prisoners. We'd know where Dru is by now!
