Nice map. I wonder if they found it to the east of 75. I see that 75 runs right through Crookston. I thought it (the shoe) was found to the east...

POSTED: 1:30 p.m. EST December 9, 2003
UPDATED: 1:39 p.m. EST December 9, 2003

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Grand Forks County Sheriff Dan Hill on Tuesday confirmed authorities have a preliminary match of blood found in the car of kidnapping suspect Alfonso Rodriguez, Jr., with DNA from missing University of North Dakota student Dru Sjodin.

Hill also told The Associated Press that searchers found one of the missing woman's shoes near the Red Lake River early in the week after she disappeared. He said the shoe was identified by one of Sjodin's college roommates. It's the only piece of clothing recovered so far.

Also notice that the river goes through an Indian Reservation.

If she was found on the reservation, what laws would apply?

I do know that if you commit a crime in a National Park, it's also a federal crime. When I lived in Yosemite Park, we were told that even a parking ticket was a federal offense. It could be true, or something that I was told to scare the heck out of me.

CNN LIVE AT DAYBREAK

Suspect Arrested in Case of Missing North Dakota College Student

Aired December 2, 2003 - 05:01 ET

...BRIDGETTE BORNSTEIN, WCCO-TV CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Divers from several places, including New York and California, are here doing the specialized work. This is a spot under a highway overpass over the Red Lake River. There's a sandbar here, so the thinking is that if the water carried anything it could be caught on the sandbar here. Do you see the triangles cut in the ice? That's how the divers get in. The crew helps each diver bundle up to keep warm, straps on the equipment and then lowers them under the water.
