Hillary to Troops: Support for War Fading

In a demoralizing message to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq, visiting New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told them that Americans back home are growing increasingly skeptical of President Bush's decision to send them into battle.

Describing two meetings with G.I.s over turkey dinners in Baghdad, Sen. Clinton told reporters later that soldiers wanted to know "how the people at home feel about what we are doing."

Clinton said she told the troops, "Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."

She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually loose the war in Iraq, contending, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."

Despite her sour pronouncements, the former first lady insisted that the soldiers were just as glad to see her as they were President Bush, whose surprise visit less than 24-hours earlier was greeted with standing ovations.

"It's a positive for the commander-in-chief to visit troops in the field," Clinton told reporters, adding, "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself."

Speaking from a secure location just over the Kuwaiti border, Mrs. Clinton launched one verbal salvo after another at the White House, arguing that Bush officials had been "obsessed" with getting Saddam Hussein and saying the perception blinded them to the difficulties of deposing his regime.

"The Pentagon tried to make do with as few troops as possible, as light a footprint as they could get away with," Clinton said. "Now, we're playing catchup . . . Unfortunately, I don't think they fully appreciated the conditions we would encounter."

The top Democrat also reprised her charge that the White House is being less than candid when it comes to apprising the American people of the costs of the war.

"The obstacles and problems here are much greater than the administration usually admits to," she said, adding, "Everybody has to be honest."

She HERSELF made sure to wear a pink shirt such that it made a "gay pride" symbol when she HERSELF spoke in front of the military...

She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually loose the war in Iraq

As opposed to tighten it?

It has long been apparent that NewsMax doesn't even bother to employ an editor. So just how big is this "staff" that gets credited so often?

Furthermore, the contents of the article do not support the inflammatory headline ("Hillary to Troops: Support for War Fading"). While it is indeed tacky of the Shrew to use the troops to say that "there are many questions at home about the administration's policies", that is *not* the same as saying that support for the war is "fading". Stating the obvious (that some people have questions about policies) says nothing about whether overall support is fading, remaining constant, or growing.

Sadly, after too many instances of "crying wolf" like this, I now have more regard for the journalistic professionalism of the National Enquirer than I do for NewsMax.

I think I'm going to go and chew some tinfoil. That might make me feel better.

I did it already, doesn't work.

I cannot tell you how this has ruined my day, as a Christian I shouldn't be feeling what I am feeling. Vengence is mine saith The Lord, then I ask, why can't it be quick to end this torture we are subject to each and everyday. This witch can burn in HELL, I will happily light the fire.

I need to get in a better mood.

The evil doesn't stop with this woman. How dare she tell the troops something like that. No wonder we all (military types) despise her.

Not only is her grammer incorrect, most poeple tell the troops they are happy to see THEM.

The Clintons are all about me, myself and I.

The sentence "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself" and Sen. Jack Reed shows how egoistic the creature is. The correct sentence should be "the troops [also] seemed to appriciate seeing Senator Jack Reed and me"

Though I don't have the link handy, a quick run though this thread will produce several sources of these statements that are not from NewsMax. As I recall, one is a Buffalo, NY newspaper.

Look, anything these seething pig excrement Klintoons do can set me off, but this stuff looks pretty real to me...

Sen. Clinton to spend Thanksgiving with troops in Afghanistan, visit Iraq

By DEVLIN BARRETT
Associated Press Writer

November 25, 2003, 5:45 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will spend Thanksgiving in Afghanistan before traveling to Iraq with a former Army paratrooper turned senator to meet with soldiers and ask questions about the United States' ongoing nation-building efforts.

The former first lady and Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., have both been critical of the administration's handling of post-combat problems in the war on terrorism, particularly after major military operations ended in Iraq.

Clinton and Reed said Tuesday they were concerned about the current efforts to win the "hearts and minds" of Iraqis.

"This administration is run by people who have been obsessed with Saddam Hussein for more than a decade," Clinton said. "And the fact that they could have been so poorly informed and prepared raises a lot of serious questions about the decisions they are making now."

Reed said he is worried "the administration seems to be rushing toward an exit strategy" in Iraq by transferring power as quickly as possible to civilian police authority.

The trip marks Clinton's first fact-finding mission abroad as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The trip marks Clinton's first fact-finding mission abroad as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Perhaps this is the place to focus first. She was there representing the Senate, and the Armed Services Committee specifically.

Admin: Thanks for helping keep things civil. I would rather we did not sink to D.U. levels of discourse.

There is a time and place for engaging in debate over the decision to go to war. Clinton is profoundly wrong to think that out with the troops in the field is one of them. It is even more profoundly wrong to suggest that we face possible defeat.

This not what they need to be hearing right now.

It's also not very politically astute.
