Moderator note: I know it's going to be tough, but, please watch the calls for violence against this creature.

In a demoralizing message to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq, visiting New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told them that Americans back home are growing increasingly skeptical of President Bush's decision to send them into battle.

Describing two meetings with G.I.s over turkey dinners in Baghdad, Sen. Clinton told reporters later that soldiers wanted to know "how the people at home feel about what we are doing."

Clinton said she told the troops, "Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."

She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually loose the war in Iraq, contending, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."

Despite her sour pronouncements, the former first lady insisted that the soldiers were just as glad to see her as they were President Bush, whose surprise visit less than 24-hours earlier was greeted with standing ovations.

"It's a positive for the commander-in-chief to visit troops in the field," Clinton told reporters, adding, "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself."

Speaking from a secure location just over the Kuwaiti border, Mrs. Clinton launched one verbal salvo after another at the White House, arguing that Bush officials had been "obsessed" with getting Saddam Hussein and saying the perception blinded them to the difficulties of deposing his regime.

"The Pentagon tried to make do with as few troops as possible, as light a footprint as they could get away with," Clinton said. "Now, we're playing catchup . . . Unfortunately, I don't think they fully appreciated the conditions we would encounter."

The top Democrat also reprised her charge that the White House is being less than candid when it comes to apprising the American people of the costs of the war.

"The obstacles and problems here are much greater than the administration usually admits to," she said, adding, "Everybody has to be honest."

My quick, unofficial count is twenty-three deleted posts. Not that this is anything to be proud of, but it does serve as an index as to how this woman can make the blood of freepers boil.

Then why say it? Why go over there at all then? I guess she belives the media will shield her. I think she was testing the waters, and found out they hated her, and then said those as kind of a plan B; She was unable to elicit the positive response she sought from the troops, so try and get it from the people back home. I certainly cant understand why she wuld say such seditious things, if a repub had done during Clintons Balkan adventure, they would have been run out of town. The more I type the more I realize that this story cant die. We must keep the pressure on..

Why say it? Simple answer: To attack Bush.

Why go over there? Simple answers: 1. To say she was there, saw things first hand, therefore, is "justified" in her condemnation of Bush and his plan....she "saw it all for herself." 2. To get accolades for being "so brave," and garner attention to "herself" and "herself's" campaign against Bush and his plan.

Yes, she knows the media will shield her; it always does.

I believe she always has known the military hates her. But the militay wasn't her audience; she merely used them as a backdrop from which to send her scud missiles. She spoke to others, i.e., the European socialist community....to garner their support for her in the future....they don't like our military, either. The Frenchies hate Bush, too.

That's only my humble opinion, however.

" Bubba was off with Denise Rich and the family retreat in Chappaqua was vacant and cold as usual."

No doubt Bubba & Denise are getting their stories straight. Fox just reported that the government is investigating the last minute pardons and also the fund raising for Hillary's campaign.

This was a political trip for Hillary and she played to her base.Good assessment.

We cannot imagine anything worse than undermining the morale of the military, her hardcore supporters don't see a problem with it.

They are the antiwar marchers and socialists.

My only complaint is with Peggy Noonan's title.

I don't like to see two of the three brightest gals out there in a disagreement.
Might just have to get the other one, Ann C., to moderate, and settle, this minor dispute! :^)

Just a wonderful & right-on-the-mark job, as always, T!
