November 25, 2003 -- A sneak-attack caller yesterday launched Rush Limbaugh into a defense against charges he was a hypocrite for demanding tough sentences for drug users while he himself was taking black-market pain killers. "It's not hypocritical because my behavior doesn't determine the value of right and wrong - nobody's does," Limbaugh told listeners.

Would not criticizing the Republicans be hypocritical?

No. What would make you think that?

What are you talking about?

Rush built a very successful business while hooked on opiate derivatives; he is proof positive that drug users contribute to the economy and the society.

I remember several years ago when Rush defined someone dying
as "assuming room temperature". I remember specifically him using that term at the time of Curt Kobains(sp?) and the
homeless advocate Mitch Williams death.

When Rush's Grandfather died, a sneak caller asked him if his Grandfather "assumed room temperature" and Rush came unglued on the air. He never used the expression again to my knowlege.

Might that be a tad hypocritical?

-----

Rush's percentages for being right must have certainly gone up since this whole "hypocrisy" issue has arisen, because he nailed the motivation and intent behind the biggest majority of it regarding him. It is becoming amusing to see what the latest "example" of his so-called hypocrisy will be.

I've never seen or heard Rush become "unglued on the air"(as in didn't know how to respond) because of anything said by a caller, in all of the years I've listened to him (since 1988), although his hearing loss has slightly affected his reactions and responses at times. And, his most recent use of similar terminology about body temps, that I recall, was with regard to bin Laden and "cave temperature", and it was said since he returned to the air.

Someone on this board recently mentioned not having heard Rush use the phrase "nicotine stained fingers" after some other apparent confrontation with so-called reality in his life.

Seems to me it would be helpful if some critics took refresher courses in reading AND listening comprehension before analyzing and analogizing about Rush, but in the meantime it does provide for amusing entertainment.

D1, for whatever it is worth, I think he sounds more like the old Rush of the mid-1990's than he did recently.

I noticed that too. To me he hasn't sounded this good since before his surgery. God Bles and Welcome Back Rush!

"Incorrect. Upon serving discovery on the State, we see that Exhibit 14-A is Poster Harris's assumptions of Poster pageonetoo's state of mind."

LOL! Sometimes I wish I COULD change my "state of mind", but usually prefer to argue for truth!
I also admit I have a bias against attorneys... I think they are one of the root causes of the coming possible demise of our country! Just look at the Tort cases going around, which earn BILLIONS of dollars in fees for sitting around an office, putting together spurious "lawsuits" to ruin people and enrich themselves. And what do the winning complainants get? In the case of fen-phen, they got a few $hundred apiece, while the attorneys for the "class" got more than $70 MILLION. In the case against the tobacco companies, the companies "settled" and the lawyers got $$$BILLIONS. that money is now primarily being used to promote Dims...
and now they want to go against the fast food industry, for making us fat???!!! Now that's funny?

"I have never heard Rush take a stand on GWB's fiscal policy. In all fairness Hannity is beginning to criticize
the spending binge."

Then I take it you didn't listen yesterday.

Having observed the exchange, I'd say you were bitter about the application of logic in counter to your argument.

I'll admit a weakness - I don't believe that everyone can be saved. I think there is irredeemable evil in the world. Having this belief is counter to what I believe in as a Christian.

If someone, for example, invades my home, and I use my shotgun to rid our existence of the threat, and the perpetrator assumes room temperature, well then the expression has its place.

Suicide has a way of placing a value on your life in a way that other's can't really defend or explain. According to the one living it, it wasn't worth continuing to live it.

"how he, in the position of employer, subjected his employee to great danger and harm"

Subjected his housekeeper to great danger and harm? She and her husband were known drug pushers and police informants a long time before Rush was involved.

"He has been one of the most vocal critics, at times, of those who use drugs illegally. "

If this is true, how come the only real quote his detractors could come up with was from 1995, and even then he was really talking about how blacks were being prosecuted disproportionately from whites.

IS a hypocrite still applies. I always know why I do something, and a man representing himself as defender of truth, and righteousness, should be held to the same standard.

Rush is a hypocrit. I'm a hypocrit. Most people probably are. So when did being hypocritical become the highest wrong in our society? Rush has been as straightforward as he can be, being a public figure with legal issues possibly hanging over his head.

I can respect that. Certainly, it is much better to uphold some standard, even if we occasionally fall, than upholding no standard at all so as to avoid being labelled a hypocrit, isn't it?

This reminds me of Ayn Rand's book (cannot remember the name for the life of me- the John Galt one) and the discussion of laws. A character states that laws are made, such that even good people cannot help but break them. That incidence of law breaking can then be used to discredit the person who was thought of as good. That is why the liberals have elevated hypocracy to the highest level. They know that as humans we will all fall and thus are discredited. They continue to be as slimy as they want to be while holding the high moral ground. Nice of you to help them by giving it credibility.

"No I would do the same thing in his situation, but that denying that he will get special treatment is naive."

Well, if hiring an expensive attorney to do his best for you is asking for special treatment, OK, perhaps Roy Black will indeed secure something "special" for Rush.

If you have no money, the Law holds the best cards. But if you have been successful or lucky, and can afford a high priced attorney, you have a chance to reverse the situation. But this is our system, so I'm not sure "special treatment is a good choice of words.

I personally am wondering if Rush is really out of the woods on this. For a guy to both lose his hearing and risk losing a 200+ million dollar radio contract because of drug addiction, he's got to have been near the proverbial "rock bottom." Yet I wonder if he is there, and I wonder if he will fall again.

Some Phillies fans were probably hoping for his suicide after the 93 World Series.

I don't think we wanted to wait for Mitchie-poo to take matters into his own hands - we were ready to help him along.

"This reminds me of Ayn Rand's book (cannot remember the name for the life of me- the John Galt one) and the discussion of laws. A character states that laws are made, such that even good people cannot help but break them. "

This goes back a bit further than Ayn Rand. In the New Testament, the "Law" was said to have been given, as a schoolmaster, for instruction in righteousness, and to reveal our unrighteousness. Jesus came to fulfill, the Law, and the Prophets. It further states that it is not possible for 'man' to obey the Law, but that God has given us a way from being held accountable, through Faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ!

Of course WE are all hypocrites, but Rush says he is NOT!

The point that I have been making is not made to demean the man, just that he demeans his own words. He lowers their value, when he tries to justify his position. It is further exacerbated, when his ardent supporters can't see the forest, for the trees!

The first thing I noticed when he came back on the air was a difference in his voice- he sounded like the "old" Rush from several years ago.

Are you saying that Rush is a hypocrite because the Scriptures say we are all sinners until saved? Or something along those lines.

coming from someone who apparently has to look to a radio personality for their daily thoughts.

Well, now, at least we are discussing thought and not feelings. You should try it sometimes;it's liberating.
