Kennedy Calls Bush Minority Nominees 'Neanderthals'
NewsMax.com ^ | 11/14/03 | Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff

Sen. Ted Kennedy called President Bush's judicial nominees "Neanderthals" on Friday, a group that includes Hispanic lawyer Miguel Estrada and African-American Judge Janice Rogers Brown.

Boasting of his party's resolve in the face of GOP attempts to stop their filibuster, Kennedy told the Senate, "What has not ended is the resolution and the determination of the members of the United States Senate to continue to resist any Neanderthal that is nominated by this president of the United States for any court, federal court in the United States."

Kennedy's overtly racist language stunned even liberal CNN correspondent Jonathan Karl, who reported, "Strong words from Ted Kennedy suggesting that some of these nominees are Neanderthals."

Karl said Kennedy's harsh tone was "exactly what Republicans point to when they say it is the Democrats that have been the extremists on this."

I'm sorry I exploded earlier on the thread but some days I think it just can't get any worse, but it does. This is one of those days. If our Republican leaders can't find their courage, I'm afraid it will all be over.

What Kennedy did today was just so "in your face" that it boggles the mind. And people just ignore it! Grrrr.

"It was Howard Cosell and it wasn't his last day at work"

. . .actually, I thought it was Howard; and probably I had imagined more than once; had it been a few years later; it surely would have been his last day;

. . similar euphemistic linguistics have been used by others with less success, for sure.

May I be the first to offer Ted some remedial swim lessons...

Maybe Scott Peterson can take him out in his boat?

Where is the media outrage?

I think Bob Dole has already used that line and got no answer either.

THE PHILANDERER

(Sung by Ted Kennedy to the tune of "The Wanderer")

Oh, well I'm the type of guy who would never settle down,
Where pretty girls are, well you know that I'm around,
I kiss 'em and I love 'em 'cause to me they're all the same,
I get so gosh darned hammered I don't even know their names,
'Cause I'm a philanderer, yes a philanderer,
I sleep around, around, around, around, around...

Well my views are on the left, got a bimbo on the right,
Only God will know where I'll be passing out tonight,
And if you want to ask me which girl I love the best,
I'll tear open my shirt, got mother Rosie on my chest,
'Cause I'm a philanderer, yes a philanderer,
I sleep around, around, around, around, around...

Oh yeah, I'm the type of guy, who likes to roam around,
I'm never in one place, I wake from town to town,
But when I find myself falling for some girl,
I walk right in that car of mine and I take her for a whirl,
Because I'm a Kennedy, yes I'm a Kennedy,
My car skids round and round and round and round and round...

In a related story, Ted Kennedy also referred to President Bush's judicial nominees as "a bunch of bloated, drunken slobs who are a disgrace to this nation!"

". . . and they swim like rocks, too!" he added.

Much like the "right to homosexual sodomy" ruling, if this goes to the Supreme Court, the Dems WILL try to take advantage of it when it's opportune for them. What the ruling actually says is meaningless to them: they'll go on the precedent that the judiciary can dicatate the procedures of the legislative and get their liberal judges to make rulings in their favor.

Well, he is a Democrat you know… Democrats have bad memory and the liberal media is mighty forgetful as well.

and click on the "Senate GOP News Conference on Judicial Nominations Debate (11/14/2003)"

About 30 minutes into the press conference, Lindsey Graham GOES OFF on Kennedy's comments about these judges being Neanderthals, and Orrin Hatch says that he and Ted Kennedy have been friends for a long time, but wonders what has happened to Ted Kennedy in the past couple of years, that his comments have become exceedingly volatile.

On my version of Real Player, I can fast forward through to the part I want to see, but the whole news conference is well worth watching.

-------------

I watched this on replay on CSPAN this evening. I was compelled enough to write Graham and thank him for what he did. We need more Senators like him.

Isn't this actually a racist remark? What would happen if a Republican politician labeled a black and a Hispanic neanderthals?

ALL of the Media and Press would be all over this story if Kennedy was a Pubbie

Jesse Jackson and everyone at the NAACP and the so-called women supporters at NOW/NARL would be screaming for him to resign if he was a pubbie

They are ALL a bunch of Hypocrites!!

Hmmmm? The CNN guy was shocked huh ..??

I was stunned! For Kennedy to call a SITTING SUPREME COURT JUDGE a neanderthal .. this goes waaaaaaaaaaay beyond anything Lott ever even thought of saying.

Kennedy needs to be shocked back to reality. I'm going for CENSURE. I think it's time to start making the dems pay a very big price for their treachery and racist comments.

LOL...My son has had several pet rats and I resent the fact that our sweet little pets are compared to Ted Kennedy. Real rats are intelligent and gentle creatures.

I'd like to say to Teddy, "I've known several real rats, and you sir, are no rat! (Maybe the fleas on rats).

Besides, rats can swim.

Kennedy will never evolve into anything as advanced as a "Neanderthal". Kennedy is nothing more than an alcohol saturated lump of flesh, with Senate seniority. Perhaps retirement time is approaching fast for the "Swimmer"? The man is not only a liar, he is a condescending elitist racist "schtoon". That is word a friend made up once, to describe a idiot, that had been placed in a position of power far above his understanding or ability. Time for "Fall of the Schtoon!"

Oh please, just imagine if a Republican had said that.

"Racist Republican hate speech" would scream every headline and endless press releases from the DNC. Teddy Kennedy would call for the resignation of the author of such a racist comment.

That is so true. There is a double standard that begs for explanation.

This comment by Ted was meant to hurt President Bush (Ted is jealous of the tenacity and strengh of this President), Ted cannot handle President Bush's ability to stay the course and stand behind these excellent and tremendous nominees, and, lastly, Ted wants President Bush to back down-Ted NEEDS for our President to back down because Ted is losing his power to Hillary's mafia. Hillary called these wonderful nominees LEMONS on the senate floor, so Ted has to take it step further, to grab the soundbite attention, which he did, by making a most hurtful and outrageous statement. Senator Landreiu, from the senate well, in her direct comment to Judge Brown, said 'You aren't EVER going to sit on this bench, honey'. Adding her two cents of depravity of character.

One can only imagine how these judges and their families feel when United States Senators, required to review and vote upon their nomination, probably the greatest honor of their lives, trash them like this. Just incredibly without integrity or statesmanship. Barbaric comes to mind.

Beyond this, Ted wants the judges who are nominated to finally give up, just like Miguel Estrada did, finally, after years of the disrespect and refusal to up or down vote on him by truly sick men of immoral and dispicable character.

Ted Kennedy has gone over the edge, and deserves a phone call and email from all of us. And the Boston Globe needs to be swamped with letters. This man is a horror.

The clintons did much to damage our nation, and now their sociopathic #2 witch has dug her heels into our senate, and until she is gone, forever there will be actions on the left side of the aisle that crush our rule of law and increase the already intense partisan atmosphere.

These are bad people. Very bad people. I hope the reporter from CNN has an epiphany and begins to question the actions and motives of the democrats in our house and senate.
