I'm from Louisiana and like to see what happens in Mississippi I'm originally from MS, but living in the land of "Teddy the Swimmer". I'm sure I'll get a late night call from my b-i-l in Gulfport letting me know how Haley and Bobby did today.
Good luck to both of them, and may the Democrats' influence continue to wane in the South!

I hope the voters in Phoenix are smart enough to vote no on the illegal healthcare property tax today.

In this off-year, there were only three scheduled gubernatorial elections, plus the unscheduled one in California. Elections for Governor being held in Kentucky and Mississippi today, and in Louisiana on Saturday, November 15.
A GOP sweep of all four gubernatorial races, resulting in a net pickup of three, remains a distinct possibility. The story so far:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
California (October 7, 2003)
100% of precincts reporting
Shall Gray Davis be recalled from the office of Governor?
Yes 4,358,033 (55.2%)
No 3,540,573 (44.8%)
Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) 3,694,436 (48.5%)
Cruse Bustamante (D) 2,421,319 (31.8%)
Tom McClintock (R) 1,014,895 (13.4%)
Others ~480,000 (6.3%)
GOP pickup
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kentucky (November 4, 2003)
0% of precincts reporting
Governor
Ernie Fletcher (R) 0 (N/A%)
Ben Chandler (D) 0 (N/A%)
Open seat; current Governor is a Democrat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mississippi (November 4, 2003)
0% of precincts reporting
Governor
Haley Barbour (R) 0 (N/A%)
Ronnie Musgrave (D) 0 (N/A%)
3 Others 0 (N/A%)
Musgrove (D) is the incumbent
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Louisiana (November 15, 2003)
0% of precincts reporting
Governor
Bobby Jindal (R) 0 (N/A%)
Kathleen Blanco (D) 0 (N/A%)
Open seat; current Governor is a Republican
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Polls in Kentucky close early: 6:00 PM local time (EST for most of the state, including Louisville; CST for the western part of the state). Media projections could could be made as early as 7:00 PM EST.
Polls in Mississippi close at 7:00 PM CST, which is 8:00 EST. Note that there are 3 minor party candidates on the ballot. If no candidate receives a majority, the election will be decided by the State Legislature, which is controlled by the Democrats.
The Louisiana election is Saturday, November 15. This is the runoff between the top two votegetters in the open primary.
I'm in Kentucky. I voted before work. I voted straight Republican. However, I don't simply fill in the "straight Republican" portion of the ballot. I mark each individual Republican nominee, so as to savor the thrill.
Dag, I never realized what a geek I am.
To: Prolifeconservative
I hope so. I'm rooting for you guys in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Kentucky. I understand there's a chance the Republicans will take the legislative houses in New Jersey.
Why does LA have elections on Saturdays?Louisiana likes to be different for the sake of being different. The "open primary" system is what's especially bizarre to me. I suppose it's a throwback to when there weren't enough Republicans to even be noticable, and the runoff would invariably involve two Dems.
As far as the Saturday voting is concerned, I dunno. It might be a "populist" thing -- an assumption that a disproportionate percentage of wealthy voters might be out of town for the weekend, thereby giving the po' folks an edge at the polls. Only speculation on my part -- anyone know the real reason?
We have a City Council race here in NYC and there is a good chance that a Republican (Pat Russo) can win my district. There is also the controversial ballot initiative to allow "nonpartisan" elections, sponsored by Bloomberg.
Yup, Bloomingidiot wants NYC to be more like Chicago.
Read his comments in Vanity Fair......he complains that just as many people die of second hand smoke every year as died in the WTC......and all that media attention on anthrax, anthrax, anthrax and only seven people died.
