Meanwhile, the strikes continue. Fools. At a Ralphs in La Jolla (affected only by smoke from the San Diego fires) yesterday, the strikers were issued N95 masks, which filter 95% of 1 micron particles and are much better than the one-strap dust masks such as those in the picture you posted of Vons strikers.
Those strikers aren't getting any press, and they're only harming themselves with exposure to the smoky air if they're downwind. The wind direction is different today. Here are pictures of the smoke from the last two days:
AP / NASA
A NASA satellite image shows smoke from the wildfires burning in Southern California drifting miles out over the Pacific Ocean, on Tuesday.
Associated Press
Smoke from various wildfires around Los Angeles and Southern California, captured by NASA's Aqua satellite, drifts over the Pacific Ocean on Monday. The fires are marked with a red outline.

WOW! It really has moved east if it is all the way to the dam area of Big Bear.
Channel 4 saying all SoCal residents should remove the ash from their car ASAP according to AAA as it is highly corrosive!

Any word on Phelan? Are they under manditory evac? My sister in-law lives there and teaches at Sultan HS in Hesperia. Schools closed & her last email said she's still at home as of 10am PDT. Any update would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like darn good progress.

Squints is the place that has the airstrip near Deep Creek.
Poor BJ, fires have burned around him 3 or 4 times over the past few years

We have winds in Norman and it has been dry for weeks out in the county although my lawn is still really green -- never stopped growing this summer.
NWS here in Norman issued the red flag/wind alert warnings earlier today for OK and TX. They have also been providing info to the FF's in CA about wind conditions including shifting, etc.

"The local SD FOx channel is doing an excellent job. I have been watching their coverage of the stand at Julian for the past couple of hours. The FCC has the "sphere of influence" thing, so when you watch LA tv stations they show/tell you very little of the San Diego fire crisis, I assume the same can be said about the SD tv stations vis a vis the LA area.
As a news viewer it's disappointing but then it's government.

IIRC, Phelan is miles to the west of the 15...close to Wrightwood. No activity there that I've heard about; the Wrightwood area is probably on tap for the next round of Santa Anas - unfortunately, this is really early in the season of the Santa Ana; I'm afraid we're going to see some re-runs, just in different areas, in the coming 6 or 8 weeks.
