You're very welcome. Not much good right now, they've switched to National news. It's been good all day and will probably be again.

You're welcome. It's pretty tough to stop a fire with 100' flame lengths, driven by wind.

I had to look it up. I had no idea, but I guess it can be right. Van Nuys is more or less where the 405 meets the 101. Just east of the big simi fire. wow. PDF map

"Been hearing reports they have made their last runs for the night!"

Yep, I just heard that too. There's still some daylight left, so it must be the smoke.

Van Nuys is not near any of the other big fires.

The onshore flow starts at the coast in the late afternoon. It's coming for them now.

I second the livestock storage, although I'm 90 minutes drive up from the L.A. basin. I have a fenced few acres, barn, stalls.

>>>yep..the other three elements to a fire...temp, fuel and humidity are factors.... <<< >>>1427 5:27PM Report of Fire NB I15 AT GLEN HELEN RD San Bernardino
This is another one right off a HIGHWAY<<<

Sounds like you've got one more element in some of these fires...an evil human element!

Someone should publicize a shoot-to-kill order for anyone seen setting fires.

Cannot even fathom seeing 100 foot flames into the air. We moved to the area right after the Panoramic fire and I can remember the housing office at Norton AFB now SB International airport showing pictures of the fire and telling incoming people where not to buy or rent. They also explained that once the fire turns into a firestorm, they are hard to stop because the fire generates its own wind.

That's how we ended up in Yucaipa -- ground was pretty safe from earthquakes and the fires usually were in the surrounding mountains but not in Yucaipa!

Imagine the worst...and you just about have it. According to an overlay on a map...the fire burned homes in a little finger area below Highland Ave. The new highway 30 runs thru that area. short cut from the 10 to the 215. yeah...all those little sparkly lights on the mountain range...are in danger or gone. This is just tragic.

battlezone is correct.

Pretty soon, we'll be coming out of our homes like the Minutemen to fight a common foe (fire).

My wife commented that the helocopters with water buckets don't fly at night because of the danger of hooking power lines. She was working in the dispatch center of the San Diego Sheriff's Dept during the Harmony Grove fire. When the communications tower burned down in Vista, her radio was the only means of communicating with over 60 deputies on the coast and north county. A very harried night.

My wife and I worked with ARES, RACES, Animal Rescue Reserve and Project Wildlife for almost 20 years while we lived in San Diego. It's difficult to be watching this occur and be on the sidelines. Especially since my sister and her family are evacuated from their home in the Cottonwood development and wondering what's next.

Apparently, Van Nuys does offer a vantage point from which to view the hills around Porter Ranch.
