fires can burn down a mountain side. However fires burn better up a mountain due to a better supply of oxygen to feed the fire. Hence, that is why fires burn faster up and generlly slower down a mountain. It's an oxygen thing. :)

I don't mean to minimize the danger in any way, it's just that I'm seeing posts that have been declaring the area completely consumed. That's a possibility but it hasn't happened as yet. Keeping our fingers crossed and praying for our fiends.

- "I just spoke with my friend in Running Springs again. he is leaving within the hour. He just spoke to a firefighter about a third of the way down 330. He was told the fire is heading up the mountain towards the town itself. They are going to make a stand at Manzanita Flats (a little above the ranger station) If they can't stop it it will hit the town of running springs first-cutting off the only road out, then circle back around trapping anybody left. It doesn't look too good. I will post anything else as it is told to me."

All I know is that during our grad ceremonies 3 ladies had their wigs blow off due to "vortex" winds at the ridge "5280 ft". The havoc for firefighters can not be understated here, however in an hour or two things should mellow out.....hopefully!

Yes, it is an oxygen thing, you are correct. Humidity, temperature and fuel loads are also factors.

I know...thanks for the update. it doesn't look good. With the onshore winds coming, even thou it will mean more moisture..still the winds will push the fire up the mountains. I just wanny weep.
