In Duval County, there have been 19 complaints with the majority coming from customers of RP McMurphy's located in Jacksonville Beach. The restaurant has received a warning and has 30 days to comply.

You just shot your entire argument in the foot with your own words.

Protection follows creation.

We need gov't to create property and protect property rights.

We need government to enforce contracts entered into between individuals.

Government does not create property.

Strapping myself in and preparing for another of your Warp-9, sleep-inducing "arguments" about how your hero government does indeed "create" property.

Worse than that, are you smokers mean enough to inflict the misery this vileness causes on others, especially asthmatics?

Don't go to private property where smoking is allowed and you won't have to meet mean people.

"We need gov't to create property and protect property rights. "

And you have come full circle! Now you need the government to protect property rights, when the business owner wants to allow smoking on their private property you think the government should take their rights!

Now to address your post: Individuals to enforce every transaction, that is the entire premise of a transaction. One thing of value is traded for another thing of value. Have you ever heard of bartering?

The government does not create property and an individual can protect their property better than any government agency. The government doesn't provide a framework in which transactions occur and they don't do any enforcing. The framework is provided by two or more parties agreeing to specified terms trading items or services of value. The only thing the government provides a framework for is the confiscation of some of that value from all the parties involved for the government budget.

Removing government intervention from business would grow business exponentially and we would see more new products on the market and creativity would once again be rewarded.

I don't see what removing government intervention and returning to a free market has to do with libertarianism.

You are digging the bigger government hole deeper with every post you make. I suggest you actually take an econ course at your local CC.

virtually any prolonged exposure to Carbon Monoxide over the zero baseline level is a health hazard.

So why aren't you dead?

You have not spent a single second since you were born in an environment with a zero baseline level of CO.

You cannot have one without the other. A truly free market is going to freely seek govt' intervention.

Huh?

You don't see the difference between food stored and prepared in a kitchen where the consumer is not allowed and customers knowingly entering a bar where smoking is allowed?

You are engaging in sophistry, madame.

I haven't gone out to a restaurant but twice since Maine's smoking ban.

I don't either. And when this new smoking ban in January nails my favorite Par and Grill, I won't be going back there either. Lots of take-out coming up, I am afraid. Does anyone truely believe I will sit in a bar/restaurant with my coffee and not be able to smoke?? AND PAY FOR THAT ABUSE?! Not on your life! I will have HOUSE PARTIES.

The new front is smoking at home and in the car but by the time you folks notice, the anti's will be steamrolling you there too and just like the bars and restaurants, you won't know what hit you.

I'm just wondering why you refer to the "anti's" as if you're not one of them? If you're gonna be one of them, you might as well say it proudly instead of pretending you're somewhere in the middle. That way, some of us smokers might be able to have a moiety of respect for your position.

Okay, sure you folks are winning. Yep, even though more and more states are following suit yuo folks are turning the tide back and these bans are being rescinded daily.

Except for a town here and there that got ahead of the power that the state had given them to ban smoking, and the occaisonal bone thrown out to study it, there is no momentum to rescind. In fact the momentum to ban is ever increasing.

That works in the bar but not the restaurant.

Excuse me, but I have been in some pretty classy restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages.

Government does not create property.

The state is sovereign. All property within its confines belongs and is controlled by the state. Your right to own property is granted to you by the state. Its right to remove your property is absolute.

It's just beginning down here. It's going to get very, very ugly. The smoking Nazis want to use the police force to enforce this law no matter what. I guess protecting airports, ports, water supplies, power substations, and the entire population from terrorism is not as important as those evil smokers.

So far you folks have not come up with a winning argument.
When dealing with anti-smoking fanatics, one understands how Galileo felt debating with the churchmen. He could only counter them with science, they had Revealed Truth (not from Jesus as it turns out, but Aristotle) on their side.

The Tobacco Nannies are quasi-religious in their outlook: "Thou Shalt Not Smoke". You have scientific evidence? So. You point out that they would declare ETS to be more toxic than cyanide? So What. You bring up principles such as property rights and individual liberty, like those Dead White European Males such as Jefferson and Franklin talked about? Mention that this has been tried with alcohol and it was the most disastrous experiment in US history? We Know Better Because We Care.

It's actually Hillaryesque.

I don't have the time to handle each one of your statements which are based on ignorance of the structure of govt'. You miss that the state is soveriegn and you miss that your property rights are enforced under the laws of the state without which you cannot enforce your contracts.

Evenif you barter item A for item B. Without the gov't the person who gave you item B can take it back if his gun is bigger than yours.

"The state is sovereign. All property within its confines belongs and is controlled by the state. Your right to own property is granted to you by the state. Its right to remove your property is absolute."

And this is your motto! The communist creed!

However, our points are that even though this may be the case, we do not agree with it! You do agree with it and appreciate your government governing every aspect of your life!

Many people are only threatened when it effects THEIR rights. They don't see the big picture. God help them.
