I'm hoping that at least one of this year's Yanks earns that middle name tonight. .....Bernie "F-'in" Williams, Derek "F-in" Jeter, ....even Enrique "F-in" Wilson.

They already have a couple: Jeter F'in Giambi and Petite F'in Posada.

Oops, time to leave!

Thank you for reminding us why the BoSox and the Braves are the only team that all New York fan (Yanks and Mets) hate.

Hey, by the way...did they ever determine what started the whole melee in the last game Pedro pitched? What started it all, anyhow?

Unfortunately, it was just Pedro responding poorly to being off his game. It would be nice to be able to blame it on something more tangible, like Derek Jeter coming on to him in the runway - not that that's out of the question, you understand...

Thanks for the varying etymologies :) All I know is that phrase, used in this context, is driving me nuts.

Little known fact: Yankees are 1-3 in game 7's at the 'Stadium'.

I hope Georgie has some nitroglycerine pills handy.

I think if Roger pitches well, and the Yankees are no more than two runs behind, he'll go to the 6th. Then David Wells will come in for one or two innings, followed by Mo for two or one inning (depending on how Wells does). If Roger pitches poorly, he'll be yanked early for Wells in multi-inning relief, followed by Mussina as necessary, and Rivera as necessary. I don't think Joe trusts the other middle relievers, and I think he probably got inspiration from Jack McKeon using three starters last night.

I think the key moment of the game will be Wakefield's first batter. If the batter gets a hit, that will inspire the Yankees. If the batter makes an out, it will deflate the Yankees.

But what do I know? Probably no more or less than Tim McCarver, and he PLAYED the game.

LOL! You may be right. That poor guy. Did you see the guy next to him? He had his hand out farther than the guy who actually tipped the ball.

Whould you take Jeb Bush's offer up to spend three months on the beach in Pompano, Fla if you were him?

I would, but I would never go back to Chi town if I did.
Wonder if the kid has a job he can leave? Oh, well.

The DH scenario you described is perfectly legal. American League teams are NOT regquired to use a DH -- they can have the starting pitcher bat just like the National League if they want.

As far as the play from the bullpen is concerned, I believe the catch is perfectly legal unless the rules have changed in the last few decades, as long as one of the umpires can see that the catch was made. A situation like this occurred back in the 1970s when an outfielder for the Braves caught a ball in the stands after having scaled the fence completely.
