Ron DeSantis’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination was already faltering even before he formally entered the fray on Wednesday in a much-touted launch on Twitter Spaces. As The New York Times noted, DeSantis “has struggled in recent polling, receiving an average across polls of around 20 percent among Republicans, falling far short of former President Donald J. Trump’s roughly 50 percent. The gap between the two men has grown steadily over the past few months, as Mr. Trump’s share has increased and Mr. DeSantis has lost ground.”
Unfortunately for DeSantis, his decision to take up Elon Musk’s suggestion of a Twitter launch meant the event was marred by numerous technical glitches and has already entered the annals of political lore as a stupendous bungle. Politico characterized it as a “botched rollout” that could undermine “the very argument he is making to Republican primary voters—that he is a competent alternative to the chaotic presidency of former President Donald Trump.” My colleague Joan Walsh described it as a “fiasco.” The New York Times called it a “meltdown.”
Far from helping him against Trump, DeSantis’s tech mishap seems to have energized the former president. Trump’s campaign quickly fired off gleefully derisive videos mocking the Twitter Spaces disaster, including one showing an imploding rocket labeled “Ron! 2024.” The exclamation mark was an allusion to Jeb Bush’s failed campaign of 2016 (marketed as “Jeb!”), while the rocket was a cruel invocation of a recent Musk space vehicle debacle. Another nasty Trump video had DeSantis sharing Twitter Spaces with a host of villains ranging from Dick Cheney to Adolf Hitler to the devil.

Their agenda is America LAST.
The Nation? Really?!
The nation is such a reputable source lol
If you can’t refute any points made by the article, I can also say Rummyfan really?
The author, Jeet Heer is a Canadian who studied comic strips in college.
Trump or Die is scraping the barrel for these “stories”.
Do you know of any media today which is for MAGA?
Meatball Ron's is part of the anti-MAGA establishment, he is a swamp monster
Links to quite a list.
The ONE ISSUE that DeSantis, initially, didn’t copy the Deep State on was pertaining to Ukraine, where he called it a ‘regional conflict’ and thus basically none of our business. However, he quickly flipped to the pro-World War 3 side, led by Lindsey Graham and Biden.
For people wondering why he didn’t stick with his initial anti-WW3 position, I suspect that it was because he matched Trump’s position on Ukraine, and therefore LEGITIMATIZED Trump’s position - and thus posed a REAL THREAT to the Neocon Project of getting World War 3 started, so they had to get DeSantis on line, at least for that issue. (think about it, how do you keep the money and weapons flowing to Ukraine when both top Republicans are against it?)
The other issues, like pardoning Trump or the Jan 6th political prisoners - it’s harmless to take the pro-Trump side on those, as it won’t get in the way of starting up WW3 or other high-priority Neocon projects...so he can say whatever helps, or may help, get him elected.
Can you refute any points made by the article? Or you are just going by reputations?
More at her substack.
But she left off that Florida’s elections have yet to be secured, and that the state’s budgets under DeSantis are far from conservative.
I for one is for protecting our own borders before BORROWING BILLIONS to protect borders of Ukraine or any foreign country for that matter.
If we had surplus in US Treasury, I could sympathize sending help to Ukraine. But with world record breaking national debt, 40 year record high inflation and yearly budget deficits in federal government, I can’t think of more stupid action than adding to fugly big national debt to save any foreign country.
With national debt much bigger than GDP, whatever money we borrow will require paying interest in perpetuity. The interest payments on national debt are near $600 Billion for fiscal year 2023, and soon will be bigger than defense spending.
Listen to all these bootlickers, pontifying that a failed Twitter launch means DeSantis is toast. A campaign is more than a single speech or campaign event, friends.
Rush used to say the only person that can break the bonds between Trump and his supporters is . . . Trump himself.
Anecdotal evidence suggests Trump has lost some of his base support.
It can be reliably predicted that Trumps’ shenanigans will continue; and will continue to erode his base somewhat.
But probably not enough to cost him the primary. This, of course, is speculation.
I'm glad DeSantis is in the race; hopefully he is building an organization that can be stood-up nationwide if Trumps’ health were to falter.
There is nothing wrong with having a second strong candidate available - just in case. A genuine political movement would be crazy not to.
DeSantis doesn’t take career advice from communists.
Nope but the nation is lower than cnn/msnbc and that is low
Posting articles from The Nation is a failing strategy if I ever saw one LOL.
“The New York Times called it a “meltdown.”
Sounds abandon ship notice if the Times gives you a skunk rating.
In what state do you vote?
You are a chino.
