Fox News Poll: Clinton Ahead of Trump After Debate, Fear Motivating Both Sides
Fox Business News ^ | September 30, 2016

Hillary Clinton has gained ground on Donald Trump, who has slipped in key measures of the presidential race after the first debate.

First, the horserace. Clinton is ahead of Trump by three percentage points: 43-40 percent in the four-way matchup, according to a new Fox News Poll of likely voters. Her advantage is within the poll’s margin of sampling error. Two weeks ago, Clinton was up by one (41-40 percent).

Third-party candidates Gary Johnson (8 percent) and Jill Stein (4 percent) remain in single digits.

In the two-candidate head-to-head, Clinton tops Trump by five: 49-44 percent. Two weeks ago, Trump was up by one (46-45 percent).

The consequences of the debate, which voters score as a win for Clinton by nearly three-to-one, are even clearer on other measures. Trump’s honesty rating is down, most still say he doesn’t have the right temperament, and over half wouldn’t be comfortable with him as president....

I wasn’t confident Romney would win. I believed the polls then, and I believe them now. We can’t love them when we’re winning and discredit them when we’re losing. The funny thing is that when Trump was up in the polls, I saw Hillary people on Twitter dissecting the polling sample, saying the polls were bogus, etc. I accept them. I mean, would it be awesome if they are wrong? Yes. I usually accept them unless there is an outlier poll that is way off from the others.

Yet those are the ones the pathetic politicians cower before and put on a pedestal. The blessed undecideds.

Isn’t it more peaceful now?

FOX has always pimped hard for Clintoon. I never have been able to figure out where they get their information from. Probably liberals that hate FOX. FOX has been saying according to their polls, Americans don’t care if the country is being overrun by illegal aliens. I’m not hearing that down here where the rubber meets the road. FOX needs to get away from their computer monitors, get out of their offices and come out to “flyover country” every now and then. Their “polls” always seem to lean to the left when it comes to “results”.

VesseyKristine @IsaboSalem Hillary is up 3 in the Fox poll. She was up 1 and the sample went from D+1 to D+4. In other words, no move.

Thanks for posting the internals - figures they adjust the D's up to ensure Hitlery still leads. I wouldn't be surprised their next poll has her up 5 on Trump, but with a D+10 advantage.

Since their margin of error is 3% and the change from last poll to this is only 2 points, it is very possible that they would have randomly come up with the same result just by virtue of their margin of error.

Fox will drop in their ratings to about the level where MSNBC is now, thanks to the Murdoch’s first chasing Ailes out, then the more liberal Murdoch sons taking over.

I’m surprised Hannity and O’Reilly haven’t jumped ship like Van Sustern has. I believe they both still have clauses in their contracts that allows them to leave Fox and immediately start work for another network (like One America News Network) if Ailes leaves.

I don't think many people were confident Romney was going to win based on the polls.

We all knew he was a lousy candidate.

Re: 27

I don't have cable, but I just started watching One American News (OAN) on Apple TV yesterday ($5/month subscription), and its pretty good. I no longer have to put up with the non-stop anti-American swill pushed by the MSM networks. I hope OAN continues to grow and thrive.

Not a real fan of polls, but assuming this is close to accurate I am not worried at all. This is a freakin weird election, and the fluctuations come almost daily based on events. To be honest, given how hard the media came down on Trump post debate, I am surprised that Hillary’s “lead” is not much higher. I still think she is in huge trouble.

“Our base did not show up, evangelicals stayed home nor did they WORK for Romney the evangelicals WILL be out in FULL FORCE for Trump Johnson amendment is their driving force!!! HELLARY is out of Ohio already!!!”

I think that most evangelicals view Trump in one of three ways.

1. A lapsed or nominal believer
2. A Christianized pagan. Someone who lives with at least the basic tenants of faith though habit or culture even if he doesn’t believe
3. An unbeliever who needs their vote against a common foe and espouses sympathetic political views in other areas.

Romney is a heretic. He isn’t just a nominal Mormon who doesn’t really understand the inner workings of Mormonism. He is a Temple Mormon, a magic underwear wearing bishop of the largest Gnostic cult in history.

Honestly I can understand why many evangelicals, and Catholics would rather have a crypto Muslim like Obama in office rather than a temple Mormon.

My apologies to Mormons on this site but the only people that think Mormons are Christians are other Mormons.

Trump, in that regard is miles better than Romney.

I think Trump is going benefit from a very large turnout

Trump’s lead in the LA Times/USC poll has actually increased since the debates.

The others showing Hitlery with moderate bumps come with D+8, D+10, etc. advantages to give her a 3-5 point lead.

She got nothing more than a dead cat bounce at best. Heck, Trump set a one day fund raising record with an $18 million haul after his “disastrous” debate performance and is still drawing sellout crowds day after day.

I agree with you. After the debate, I was afraid Clinton might open up a big lead and while she has moved up some, it is not significant. If this event does not help her, what can help her?

Assuming Trump performs similarly in the next two debates (I heard on the news he still does not want to practice - sigh), the last one is Oct. 19. Perhaps that is enough time that whatever bounce Hillary gets from the debates, there is enough time left to make up ground until Nov. 8. I think it probably is a good thing, the election date is late this year. Every day can help.

Yes, OAN is good and hopefully will grow to the point where they will replace FOXNews as the best News Network for Conservatives - especially with FOX turning increasingly CNN or PMSNBC light in the wake of the liberal sons of Rupert Murdoch taking over FOX.

If they can entice Sean Hannity away from FOX for lesser pay, but an ownership percentage should OAN take off that would make him more $$$ than hanging on at FOX, that would boost it’s ratings. Hannity would bring millions of viewers overnight to his OAN show. Drudge just posted that Hannity is the number one rated cable news host (moved past MeGYN Kelly for number 1).

I believe the use of the polls and their roller coaster numbers are being used by the media to generate readers and viewers. It is the same tactic that the Yellow Journalist papers used to keep their circulations up. This is a critical time for the media. The internet is causing less people to buy papers and watch the news. I am sure they are benefiting when the polls behave like a neck and neck horse race.

I have conducted over a thousand hours of political phone calls. You would call me an extreme activist. I have noticed that people are answering their phones less and less as caller I.D. and voice mail are used to screen calls. I cannot understand how these polling companies find a sample population that represents the population at large. Even those who do answer their phone represents a segment of the population that is different than the population at large. These are people who have not dropped their land line and do not have their phone number unlisted. To accurately get a result that represents the total population, you have to get a good sample. I do not see how that is possible.

Who in the hell could not know who they are voting for? The truth is, it’s all about turn out. Will there be enough turnout to beat the voter fraud. That is where the attendance at Trump rallies really makes a statement. The polls, debates and twitter feed mean nothing.

I don’t even watch TV anymore and have no interest in anything these talking heads have to say.

How many ways can the question of who's ahead or 'according to..' - political talking heads repeat and repeat and repeat the same old hypothetical rhetoric. And no matter how hard "they" try, "they" can't make Trump look as bad as Hillary....Trump is not a political crook...and he has a long list of successes. Hillary has nought.

I am not voting early or by mail; I am going to my polling place on election day and voting for Donald Trump!

evangelicals WILL be out in FULL FORCE for Trump Johnson amendment is their driving force!!!

The Johnson Amendment refers to a change in the U.S. tax code made in 1954 which prohibited certain tax-exempt organizations from endorsing and opposing political candidates.
