New information is surfacing about Mitt Romney and his 2016 plans following the 2012 presidential candidate's nationally-covered speech on Thursday morning.
The former Mass. Governor and Republican nominee for President spoke out against Donald Trump, calling the Republican front-runner a "phony" and "fraud." He urged Republicans to unite behind another candidate, yet declined to indicate which candidate he would be supporting.
An in-depth look at Romney's campaign finance activity, however, shows that the former candidate may be gearing up to take another shot at the White House.
In late January and early February of 2016, Romney's campaign finance entities, which by law are subject to FEC regulations, were both reactivated with amended campaign statements.
FEC records indicate that Romney's former campaign committee, Romney for President, and Romney's affiliated PAC, Romney Victory Fund, were both reactivated earlier this year, making them legally able to solicit donations and organize for his presidential campaign.
The above FEC documents can be found on the FEC websites here and here.
The Christian Times Newspaper spoke with several campaign finance professionals and campaign finance attorneys to further understand this move.
One told us that Romney "would only be making these changes" if he in fact "was going to run for President in 2016."
Another, a former McCain finance staffer indicated that this evidence shows "without a doubt" that Romney has plans to run as a Republican this year.
In the days and weeks following Romney's Trump-bashing, it will be interesting to see whether or not the 2012 candidate makes any further moves to run in 2016.
Maybe a Romney/McCain ticket. They’re both good at losing elections that shouldn’t have been lost. If anyone can lose to Hillary they could... and that’s the GOP goal.
Just tweeted it to his campaign manager.

Thank you for doing that! :-D
If he doesn’t, I for one will finally pay attention to my gut, which has been telling me that Cruz is a man who wants to be president above all principle.

youre nuts. you are much too emotionally invested in Trump to see that Cruz is easily 10x the conservative that Trump pretends to be.
Who is Romney campaigning against right now? There’s your answer who the “conservative” in the race is.
I only put the statement into words to show how utterly stupid it is.
You can donate to Trump on his website. Millions of voters sending $50 to him would be millions of dollars in no time. No corporate, no big donors, just us little people.
This is just blowing my mind. What on earth is Romney planning to do? This is all for the brokered convention?
Keep Trump under 1,200 delegates by hook or crook. Then broker the convention. I’d put my money on a Ryan/Cruz ticket if that happens. Cruz will be the bone thrown to conservatives. These GOP are so lazy and transparent. The Dems are much more devious and smart.
I won't install the yahoo app so I don't know what that report said. Maybe you can paraphrase.
If he doesnt, I for one will finally pay attention to my gut, which has been telling me that Cruz is a man who wants to be president above all principle.

I’ve always said that I’d vote for Trump (my first choice) or Cruz in the general, but if it comes to light that Cruz was in any way working with the GOPe/Mittens to oust Trump, I will never vote for him. This would be the ultimate betrayal.
This being said, I’m going to give him a little time to respond to this in a meaningful way. He had better denounce this with gusto!

He did win indeed. I don’t live in Texas & haven’t the faintest clue about squat there. I was just curious.
*Trump needs to hold a press conference tomorrow and say he is going to start accepting donations as he is the messenger and so many people will be disappointed if he doesn’t start showing more ads in social media, TV and on the radio. Trump has already spent a lot of money flying all over the country and self funding the cost of venues and police security. A lot of costs go into each venue.
Trump needs to say he has been encouraged from day one to take small donations from Americans and he also has been encouraged from his friends, etc to accept all donations.
It was fine back in Iowa, but not hat the RNC has totally gone hypocritical on him when asking him to sign the pledge to support whoever the nominee is, it is a different game now that we are in March and the GOP is so upfront about their intentions to destroy private citizen Trump, to steal the nomination from him.
And MItt will never get votes, he will never win. People will be so livid with his arrogance that he will be ridiculed everywhere he goes for the rest of his life.
FUMR.
If Texas seceded he’d have a shot at the presidency there.
I think you are right. GOPe will pretend to back Cruz to try to pull votes from Trump... and then hand it to Romney.
They don’t believe you.
I voted for that stupid twerp in 2012, and I tweeted him that I want my vote back. I swear I will sit home on election day if that sorry POS Romney gets it in a brokered convention!!!
I hope he does.
