How Trump stole the South from Cruz

ATLANTA — He tapped voter anger to emerge from a primary field full of experienced Republican officeholders. A political outsider, he had a name most voters recognized, a business background fused to a populist message and, given that he was funding his own campaign, a self-avowed freedom from lobbyists and special interests.

Over the course of the year, Trump contributed more than $1 million to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, but it was Perdue’s race that captured his interest — an interest that was less about 2014 than 2016.

In Perdue’s Senate strategy, Trump saw the makings of a White House run of his own. And two years later, Trump has used that blueprint to not only capture the South, but to steal the region away from Ted Cruz on his way to the lead of the GOP primary.

Trump is a fast learner. It is amazing how he has improved as a candidate between last July and at present.

Cruz and Rubio don’t have a path to win.

All they can do is hope for a contested convention.

Trump didn’t take the biggest prize of the South, which would be Texas. I believe Cruz locked that up. If Donald had won Texas, he never would have stopped crowing about it.

The source article goes on to parrot the Cruz line that Trump never disavowed the KKK. Repeatedly.

Doesn’t FL have more delegates?

If Trump had won TX, he would have every right to crow about it

Please understand the basics of this process.
Texas was a must win for Cruz, his home state.

For Trump, Texas is just another state, to harvest lot of delegates, which he has done tonight.

As long as Trump wins FL he will be OK.

Doesn’t matter. Trump won more delegates than all the others combined. And we haven’t even gotten to the winner take all states yet.

If he had won Texas, I am not sure that he would have had to “crow” about it... My feeling is that God often doesn’t give us what we want, but he often gives us what we need. The coming battles will hone his skills for the real battle. Cruz is a worthy adversary; Rubio is the closest thing he will get to running against a Democrat.

“Cruz and Rubio don’t have a path to win.”

I have a path where we all win, it’s a 16-year plan called the Trump/Cruz ticket! Trump wants his conservative bonafides, and Cruz wants a Constitutionalist at the helm. Unite! Done.

We the people want all of Trump’s campaign goals implemented. Done.

Let Trump do the initial heavy lifting on the bloody and nasty work that needs done, and let Cruz take over in 8 years to restore the republic to civility and calm.

They would be so good together, if they could get past their hubris.

A win, win, win.

Trump made huge progress today. Primaries in 70% of states still to come. But looking great for Trump.

Nope. Rubio needs to win Florida. Trump doesn’t.

I’m going to do my part to help Trump win Florida.

Gonna vote for him up here in the Redneck Riviera (NW FL), which Rubio thinks is his territory.

The source article goes on to parrot the Cruz line that Trump never disavowed the KKK. Repeatedly.

The same thing happened on every news channel this evening. Both Cruz and Rubio went on about it over and over and over again during the last couple days also. I don't know about his earpiece or what was going through his head. I hate to say it, but it is possible that he might have been tired from doing more than any 70 year old should try to accomplish in a week. Trump has been going nonstop week after week, it may have resulted in a Rick Perry moment. Unlike Rick Perry it doesn't appear to have cost him much.

Rubio has no chance in FL. He’s not well liked especially since abandoning his senate seat. Trump will beat him like a drum and then I see no way he stays in. It will all work out in the end.
