New York real-estate developer Donald Trump has dominated the Republican nomination campaign for months -- but his strongest support doesn't come from any of the organized blocs in the Republican party.
He polls well among conservative and evangelical voters, to be sure, running competitively against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) with these voters. He draws considerable support, also, from self-identified "liberal"or "moderate" Republicans. In fact, in the latest Quinnipiac poll, his biggest polling margin against his GOP rivals was among moderate and liberal Republicans.
But his strongest support comes from Republicans who used to be Democrats, according to new polling analysis by Democrat data firm Civis Analytics.
And those party-switching Americans -- if they register and turn up at the 2016 polls, especially in swing-state mid-western states -- could transform American politics in 2016. That's because the GOP candidate needs to sweep the mid-western states -- plus win Florida -- to reach the critical total of 270 electoral votes....

Democrats who registered as Republicans to vote in the Republican primaries.
Exactly Jesse Ventura’s approach to winning the governorship in Minnesota.
If he is a big tent republican who polls well in the exact states we need then obviously he must be destroyed.
Well, Trump, is pretty much Jesse Ventura with a bigger bank account.
In our area it’s democrats who are fed up and leaving their party to become Republicans They have had enough of Clinton’s immorality and Obama
Trump bump
Obviously.
I thought the liberal media LIKED Democrats who registered as Republicans to vote in the Republican primaries.
The MSM still doesn’t get it. The racism card is maxed out. It’s not scaring people anymore. Everyone who has ever disagreed with a Lib has been called racist or worse so many times they have become numb.
Democrats who registered as Republicans to vote in the Republican primaries tend to vote for Republican candidates who lose in November.
And, by the way, Cruz is ANYTHING but 100% pure conservatism. He, on many occasions, has favored big government just like the rest of the establishment.
Given this, it’s obvious that the PC, freak-fringe, lunatic bloc in the radical Left is too much for even Democrats to digest. Men who call themselves women, blacks angry at everything but themselves, queers buggering each other, enviro-nazis who are strangling the economy, parts merchants for living flesh, welfare parasites ... even moonbats may be waking up to the fact that THAT IS NOT AMERICA!!!
I See Voting People, all choosing Donald Trump!
A tidal wave of historic proportions may be building.
Nah, Trump isn't anywhere near as whacked out loco as Ventura, nor did he go after a hero's wife.
Closed primaries are the way to go.
In Michigan ours aren’t exactly closed but you can’t split your primary ballot. You either vote Republican or Democrat.
We lived in Minnesota during Jesse’s run. It contained a unique set of circumstances, especially regarding his two opponents.
Ventura recognized their weaknesses and exploited them.
For all his bluster, Jesse correctly set the winning tone for a near landslide vote, compared to his Republican and DFL opponent.
Watch and see if Trump doesn’t do the same.
Let me see if I get this right, the NYT is calling democrats racists? Wow they finally see what everyone else has known for decades!
That’s the way I see it too
