Ted Cruz is freaked out about inflation. But there has been absolutely none for a year.

A lot of conservative voters — especially those old enough to have lived through the high inflation of the 1970s — are convinced that America is currently suffering from an inflation problem. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) pandered to those voters in a recent Republican presidential debate, blaming the "loose money" policies of the Federal Reserve for raising the prices of various consumer products.

But new data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that overall, prices aren't going up. At all.

Between September and October, prices actually fell slightly. And over the past year, the inflation rate was exactly 0.0 percent....

If you are homeless, live on the street and never have to eat there probably hasn't been any inflation.

I pass on McDonalds. Even the ones I find in the trash can and on the side of the road.

Now Whataburger, week old or month old, I am on it like a buzzard on a gut wagon.

Need a clue as to where little Timmy’s head is? Go to Sonic
and look at those little kiddy burgers, Folgers new smaller
cans of coffee or the price of beef. Deflation right, product
deflation.

I’d stay away from tunafish because you don’t know what kind of meat is really in it.

It just hasn't been the same since it went dolphin-free.

Years ago we just bought one of each kind on the shelf, including the store brand, and opened them up and taste tested them. For texture (as in identifiable fish muscle structure, firmness, lack of bones, and general absence of gunk), as well as flavor, the store brand won out. When it came on sale, we bought a couple of cases, and every time since.

The event with the guy in the cooker was on the west coast and involved a cannery for one of the major brands. Either the guy was taking a nap or some other misfortune befell him, but I seriously hope he was dead before the heat went on. That would be one heck of a way to go.

Got to be fresh though.

Yep. Around here a lot of that is semi generated. Not much salvageable. Average car strike used to leave at least a quarter of a deer that could be cut away with no 'bloodshot' or blunt trauma.

If very fresh, can be good to eat. I know other people who have fed their dogs the meat as well. (the dogs lived outside, not house puppies, because venison is a mite rich for their system and the ensuing farts try men's souls.)

But the price increases throughout the economy that were directly or indirectly caused by high oil prices haven’t gone away.

Like gasoline prices, that takes time at best.

The retailer will try to gauge what their suppliers will charge to re stock the sold inventory, the price will reflect that expectation plus profit and overhead.

deflation is a slow process (caution), where inflation is fast, anticipating price increases.

Loss leaders will start creeping in, and watch sales. Expect a year or more for the prices to come back down, at best--and they won't drop to pre-inflation levels. Having stocked a freezer and a rack of canned goods helps, and buys some time, even though stocks diminish (which is completely contrary to my more prepper nature).

The one other thing people can do (which may spur a 'loss leader') is just not buy it.

If enough people don't buy it, the price will come down, or it will be used as a loss leader to get people into the store. (Then you stock the freezer or cupboards).

Or does it seem like McDonalds puts wood pulp in their hamburgers ?

Remember "100% Beef" is trademarked. That could be anything.

Maybe they are adding fiber like the mooch wants in our diets (undigestible cellulose).

I changed out a water pump (1980s small block Chevy Van) at -30F one day. That was not a pleasant experience.

There were incidents of Avian flu in laying and other poultry operations in the past year. The rise in egg prices was something which could be anticipated.

Unfortunately, eggs are only good for so long.

Powdered/evaporated eggs require someone who is well versed in their use to be as satisfying, and just don't replace that sunny side up cackleberry on the breakfast plate.
