Days away from the next Republican presidential debate, Ted Cruz is performing at his strongest since May while Jeb Bush continues to slip in polls.
"I think Ted Cruz is in a very good position to win the nomination. There's no doubt about it," said Allen West, president and CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis, a Dallas-based think tank.
Cruz has the highest poll numbers he has seen in six months.
Donald Trump and Ben Carson remain the leaders by a double-digit margin.
But Cruz is surging, in fourth place behind Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
In a taping of WFAA's Inside Texas Politics to air Sunday morning at 9:00, West wonders whether Bush can survive much longer.
"I just read a report in Politico where one of his top fundraisers in Florida is backing away from him," West explained. "So, I think he does have some serious considerations right now."
Bush ranks fifth behind Cruz, according an average of polls on RealClearPolitics.com.
Still, many in Republican leadership don't like the junior Senator from Texas after frequent public clashes with conservatives since being elected three years ago.
Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform told News 8 that Cruz will likely start broadening his appeal.
"The challenge of being an insurgent and then wanting to be president is the president is the leader of a team. If the House Republicans and Senate guys aren't with you, you got nothing," Norquist said.
Bush hasn't run for office in more than a decade.
The political climate. to which Cruz is well-conditioned, has changed a lot since then.
We all know Bush is holding back..biding his time for the right moment......
Fourth place? Should be at least second. Oh well. It’s still early yet and I will take any bit of good news I can get.
LOL
Good for Cruz.
Keep rolling, Ted!!!
Any minute now.
Yup
Annnny minute.
Bye bye Jeb.
Cruz has not clashed with conservatives. The GOPe are not conservatives.
Love it.
I just cannot understand how anybody could support Rubio after his Gang activities.
Young Yeb! is as bad as Yeb!
The Joyful Tippy-toes Tortoise is probably not as joyful these days.
Go Ted go! Crush islam! Restore the Holy Bible in the Republic. There’s only one King and that’s Jesus!
Notice the line - “clashes with other conservatives?” Just who might that be? He clashes with the Beltway Bunch who are a bunch of RINOs.
Go Ted Go!!!

My son, we must look to our friends across the aisle for guidance and wisdom. Do they not teach us that this stuff can ONLY work when the right people are in charge?
Clearly. CLEARLY the right people are not in charge. And why? WHY?
Itâs because people are impatient beings. Especially right wing people. It has been 25 plus years since Reagan left office. Twenty five years. And what do we hear? âI want a conservative!â You know what that is?
Iâll tell you. Itâs greed. Itâs unrealistic expectations. Itâs the mindset of a child that wants what they want now.
People need to realize that these things donât happen overnight. Or in 25 plus years. What is 25 years in the life of a Republic really? Itâs not much. You have to look at the long game here.
Sure. we could all say something simpleminded like âThis election we will all decide on Candidate X, the Conservative and go elect him in a landslide. An even simpler minded person would say âWell lets do that across the board!â.
But what does that really accomplish? Yes. You get your temporary satisfaction. Yes you get all the laws of Obama fixed or eliminated. Yes you get America back on track to fix things. But what did you get really?
Not much. Sure you got what you THINK you wanted. And sure, you might hold it for 8, maybe 12, maybe 16, maybe 32, maybe 64 years. Then what? Then the dems start chipping away at your so called victory. Because all your voters that got your quick fix are dead or too old to care. And then you are right back to a decline and in the end you are no better off.
Are you? Of course not.
Thats why it is absolutely crucial to go slow at this. Not jump jhaphazrdly into things because that way lies madness my son. Good things come to those that wait. Soon. But you have to learn to be patient.
Amen
It doesn’t matter what place he is in the ratings Bush is on track to be nominated at the convention. If he drops out it will be because the RNC fronting for the GOPe will have told him, not this time, Jeb, we’re going for Rubio or (or Kasich or whoever).
Bush just has to stay in it officially. The Dem State primaries are his and, unless the Conservatives winnow to one who can win a bunch of primary majorities in the other states, the Dem state primaries determine who will be even considered at the Convention. The current rule is that a candidate has to win 8 outright majorities in the primaries to be considered for Nomination. And that rule can change to suit conditions right up to the Convention itself.
