“I suspect RP really believes much more like his father...”

Since he really hasn’t been on my radar that could well be.

I was astounded that during the debate his voice and mannerisms were EXACTLY like his dad’s. It was a little freaky. Has he always sounded/acted like that?

poor Rand. He is trying to get his name in the news. Trump is all he has to do it.

go home Rand, while you can still afford it.

“I can’t imagine Donald Trump even knowing what a tea party is,” Paul said, referring to the conservative political movement.
___

Rand Paul should know what the Tea Party (TP) is. He courted them in 2010 to get elected to the senate. Then he turned his back on the TP when the TP tried to help Matt Bevin unseat Mitch McConnell in 2014. Now Paul, who hopes the TP has a very short memory, is hoping to rekindle his courtship to further his presidential ambitions. Paul needs to be reminded of the old “fool me once...” saying.

I don’t know that it was, anymore than everyone seems to know whatever=vagina.

Not bashing Cruz by the way. I like him. But his turn is coming in the crucible and the same folks will be holding the torches. I prefer to be consistent and defend against Establishment hatchet jobs when I see them.

They’ve been attacking him since the day they heard about him. How did you not notice it?

Not like it’s going to happen once Trump is out and he becomes the most popular conservative. Not even close.

Not sure really. Rand is relatively new on the scene. I think the idea was that he would take his Dad's base of support and expand it by moderating some of his fathers strong libertarian positions. It really isn't working too well, at least not yet, because part of Ron Paul's appeal (mostly to young people) was his peacenik, isolationist foreign policy - and Rand hasn't found a way to sell that with Republican primary voters.

I really do like much of what Rand Paul stands for, but he is too much like his father to me. And watching him try to thread the needle is difficult. I mean he has to take his Dad's positions and twist and shape them to something that almost no longer resembles the original policy.

Like foreign aid. Ron says "cut it all off, it's none of our business". Simple, straight forward, like it or not it is easy to understand. Rand however, has to placate a GOP primary population to even get the nomination, so you end up having him saying these really odd things like "cut off most foreign aid, MAYBE, POSSIBLY, even to Israel, because you see that will free up Israel to attack whoever they want, but I don't mean cut it off now, just sometime in the future if it becomes possible with Israeli support - to cut off the very aid they get from the US".

Rand needs to be his own man to get traction imo. Right now he is trying to be two things at once.

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

“I guess it is as open to interpretation as “whatver” meaning vagina, no?”

NO! Its not open to interpretation. I’m a woman and in a trillion years that would not have entered my mind.

Trump said what he said which is she had blood coming out of her eyes. That’s the cogent part of the sentence. There is no other meaning.

I agree, was being sarcastic. Trump said blood eyes about both Kelly and Wallace.

Everyone is castigating Trump for something he literally did NOT say. Another leftist tactic adopted by the GOP

Fox News should not be “on our side” just as MSNBC should not be on the Dems side.

The FACT that Fox is willing to be hard on GOP candidates shows that they are trying to be unbiased.

But if you listen to X supporters, they will cite questions from Fox to candidate X that they think is unfair.

But those people are cry babies.

Our candidates need to be strongly vetted and seasoned for the liberal inferno that awaits them.

Frankly, only one...Scott Walker, has stood up to the full force of the left and survived unscathed and unapologetically 100% conservative.
