Sen. Ted Cruz rained praise on primary rival Donald Trump Sunday, making a point to contrast himself with the many 2016 Republican presidential contenders who have been sharply critical of the real estate mogul.
Quite a few members of this field have attacked Donald Trump. A lot of folks in the media have asked me Ted Cruz, will you do the same? I have been glad to praise Donald Trump for speaking out boldly and brashly and for focusing on illegal immigration, Cruz said in an interview with POLITICOs Mike Allen at the Koch brothers-funded Freedom Partners summer conference in Dana Point, California.
Cruz added that there was a reason for his reticence to criticize Trump, referring to late President Ronald Reagans 11th Commandment against attacking other Republicans.

Well, if the candidates attack Trump, over Hillary, that wouldn’t be smart....and would certainly be an easy thing for Trump to turn around.
Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, Sarah Palin..that is my dream team right there
Agree....I think it’s a LOT of folks dream team.
I like it!
In practical terms, there will be plenty of time to attack Hillary or whoever the Rats nominate. First things first, secure the nomination by presenting a bold agenda to the republican primary voters.
Fiorina has done yeoman’s job attacking Hillary. But she is not gaining much traction in polls. So we can surmise it is not the biggest issue with republicans at the moment.
Exactly!
Wondering if he’s wearing body armor under his suits now.
Trust me you do not want her. I remember hearing about her when she was the CEO of Hewitt Packard. This was long before she was political.
The woman was considered extremly toxic. She got fired for spying on her own executives. She got caught lying too. Trust me you do not want her.
On the other hand, I once worked with an attorney who graduated from Yale. Highly intelligent and something of an expert on Constitutional law. One of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. I keep saying he turned out fine in spite of his Ivy League education.
Trump's is Ivy too, don't forget.
Those are my exact points about Cruz. But I can understand his strategy. If Trump peters out, Cruz will need the money from rich donors to stay in the race to compete with Bush and Walker.
However Trump and Cruz balance out well on so many issues. The synergy should work real well.
I think it is a golden opportunity to sink Hillary’s boat. They should demonstrate how good they will be taking der Hildebeast on. In fact, they should start the debates with a bold display of unison with handshakes and a unified statement that says, “Our dispute is not with each other, but with Hillary Clinton! We have decided to make this forum a joint effort for the education of the public on who we are and who is it we oppose.”
Let the democrats take Hillary out first if that is what they plan to do. Why do the job for them - let them fight it out in their own primary (they will do a much better job of airing her dirty linen than the pubbies can right now and they will have to spend their money to do it.)
Why sink Hillary’s boat so early? Hillary has more baggage than an overloaded cargo ship. Trump is doing fine with what he is doing. Never change what is working.
Trump is the swizzle. Cruz is the cocktail.
That’s the impression that I’ve been getting as well. The fact that the two meet and have only good things to say about each other is a message for those willing to hear.
Trump runs his enterprises with expert staff. Cruz has political expertise that Trump doesn’t have. Trump has enormous name recognition and money that Cruz doesn’t have. Together they would be formidable.
Yeah, I knew a Harvard grad too. Every opportunity he had, he took to remind anyone in earshot that he was a Harvard man.
He would say, “See you later.” and we would think, “Not if I see you first.”
Borrowed jacket.
I will be brutally honest with you. If Trump drops out, Bush will be the nominee. The polls are not the election, but there is a reason why huge amounts of money is spent on polls. Cruz has never beaten Bush on any poll. But Trump is beating Bush in so many polls.
Trump has far better name recognition. People today know TV stars better than politicians. As poster windflier said, “This is Ted’s first presidential rodeo, after having only been on the national stage a mere three years. That’s not really long enough to have cemented a resume’ of the type Americans normally look for in a future president.
However, eight years as VP would certainly put Ted in the best possible position to become President in 2024.”
Keep in mind Cruz is only 44, while Trump is 69!
Trump/Cruz 2016—first term
Cruz/Lee 2020 Second Term
Cruz/Lee 2024 Third term
Ted Cruz, Governor of Texas
Trump Governor of New York 2020.
If he can turn around the nation Trump will have his face carved on mountains!
