Walker Adviser on Strategy: ‘Much Easier To Move From Being Conservative to Moderate Later On’
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | July 13, 2015 | Dr. Susan Berry

Posted on 07/13/2015 5:51:03 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

A longtime Scott Walker adviser anonymously tells National Journal that the now officially announced presidential contender’s strategy will be to first “lock up” conservatives and then move to a more moderate position later on in the campaign.

“You start in Iowa and lock up conservatives, because if you don’t do that, none of the rest matters,” Walker’s adviser reportedly told journalist Tim Alberta. “It’s much easier to move from being a conservative to being a middle-of-the-road moderate later on.”

“In Iowa, you see the beginnings of that,” he added. “He’s capturing that conservative wing first and foremost, and then moving from Iowa to the other states and bringing other voters into the fold.”

The idea, according to the adviser, is that Walker’s strategy on the national playing field will be the same as what has worked in Wisconsin: he will present himself as a blue-collar, down to earth kind of guy who didn’t graduate from college, who appeals to everyone and, ultimately, unites all stripes of the Republican Party.

By way of example, the National Journal points to this ad put out by Walker’s re-election campaign last fall during his battle with Democrat Mary Burke....

You would think that by now these advisors or consultants, what ever you call them, would realize that we are on to this tired old cynical strategy.

I heard that Governor Walker was ‘acceptable to the Establishment’ and I believe he is in the end.

If he is elected things will not really change in this country. I see this scenario with a Walker presidency or any other one acceptable to the GOPe.

Our country goes deeper into debt to have a nice looking credit rating (the ratings agencies were worried until they raised the debt ceiling last several times) and ends up like Greece, where the government was forced to cut benefits, raise taxes and keep on spending too much money all at the same time.

Talk show host Bill Cunningham who still calls Boehner ‘my friend’ talked about a ‘consumption tax’ ‘revitalizing’ ‘the economy’ and the I think unless we elect someone like Cruz that trick will come out of the bag at some point. New taxes or some tax shell game to get more out of our pockets, courtesy of the Republicans.

Walker ended Obamacare 100 percent repealed it in Wisconsin, 100 percent ended Common Core in Wisconsin, has secured the border to not allow illegals into Wisconsin and so on right......

Walker went after the government employee unions and I cheer that. I even sent money to Walker when he fought recall and get his letters and emails.

But I know the business elites are happy with the unions being busted too for their own selfish reasons like Amnesty and all the cheap labor.

Cruz first! Potentially, barring something worse/unforseen, Trump. No one else has appeal.

The problem is, ‘Pubbies are going to stop trying bring in the Conservatives.
They GOP-E figures they will get enough of us because “Where else can they go?”
I think the plan is for the GOP to drive the Democrats further Left and pick up more “moderates.”
Won’t work, and it is not the best interest of the Republic, but nobody said the GOP-E was smart or patriotic.

Why does the candidate have to be a politician?

Why does the candidate have to be a politician?

Well, shades of Schwartzeneger and Jesse Ventura come to mind. Seems to me that Obama also ran as an anti-politician-politician of sort. Look how well all of those examples turned out.

Who did you have in mind?

Walker is good with unions, but he’s muddy on immigration, as we know. He’s muddy on life and social issues, as we know, talking a good game but telling us to “downplay” our beliefs.

He went through his first term as governor fully funding Common Core and helping kill a bill that would have gotten rid of it in 2014, but now says he wants to eliminate it.

His staff hires have been frankly alarming. I can’t wait to see what Brad Dayspring has to say about Ted Cruz, given what he did to Chris McDaniel.

Walker has recently claimed some solid conservative positions. I’d like to see him stick to those positions, but in the meantime I’d note that Ted Cruz has held those positions from the beginning without moving an inch.

Decent candidate. But far from the best for conservatives.

He’s establishment.

I don't claim to be psychic, but there's just something about Walker that has given me that impression for a long time now.

Call it gut instinct, people skills, little clues here and there -- dunno, but as a candidate, he's just never been attractive to me.

Just wondering. If you like him so much why are you so eager to get rid of him?

What is going to happen to WI once Walker is no longer the governor? Any plans?
