I think to every African-American in the country its a symbolism of slavery to them and now its a symbol of murder for this young man and so I think its times to put it in a museum.
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul says he believes the Confederate battle flag is inescapably a symbol of human bondage and slavery and needs to go.
No, I agree, I think the flag is inescapably a symbol of human bondage and slavery, and particularly when people use it obviously for murder and to justify hated so vicious that you would kill somebody I think that that symbolism needs to end, and I think South Carolina is doing the right thing, Paul told radio host Jeff Kuhner on WKRO radio on Tuesday morning.
Paul added it was obviously a decision for South Carolina to make but said if he were in South Carolina he would vote to get rid of it. Paul said for every African-American the flag is a symbol of slavery and it was time to put in a museum.
There have been people who have used it for southern pride and heritage and all of that but really to I think to every African-American in the country its a symbolism of slavery to them and now its a symbol of murder for this young man and so I think its time to put it in a museum.

And Joooz. Don’t forget about the evil Joooooz. < /sarc >
They’ll be calling for the demolition of Stone Mountain by the end of the week.
Wouldn’t surprise me.
ISIS flags are tied to executions, Islam has murdered thousands, mosques continue to preach their constant hatred. Hon about caring about most of us rather than a few offended?
Someone ask him about Israel’s right to exist.
Watch his head asplode.
People in KY stayed in the Union; they don’t like Confederate flags there.
At this point the paranoia over the Confederate battle flag is getting even more annoying than the annoying pro-treason screeds of the Confederacy’s modern apologists.
Back in the 70s and 80s the Confederate Flag just meant, at least to us Northern Kids, “the South” or “Rebel”: Dukes of Hazzard, Skynyrd, even Tom Petty all sported the flag in a harmless, non racial, sense.
I respect the viewpoint of people that still feel it means that.
Still, sometimes symbols get co-opted to the point where the general meaning has been corrupted and the “negative” connotation is too widely accepted for it to be worthwhile to keep arguing about the original, benign, meaning.
(See, for example, the Roman salute and the Swastika).
I’ve thought the Confederate flag might be at that point for a while now.
Well, was he asked about, Our Flag of the United States of America?
Another uninformed looser trying to rewrite history into something it isn’t.
I spent a week of my life as a child here. It was awesome, would go again!
Go to hell, you weasel!
True. Rand's daddy is also from Pennsylvania so I doubt Rand's childhood was spent lionizing the lost cause.
But Rand's stance must suck for people who are both Paulbots (if you disagree with Dr. Paul, you hate the Constitution) and neo-confederates (the south was fightin' for STATES RIGHTS and it had nuthin' to do with slavery!!). Most of the Pat Buchanan types fall into that camp. I imagine they're pulling their hair out now trying to figure out what to do.
Yes.
you ain’t just a whistlin’ Dixie....(that’s next!)
Go to hell, you weasel!
Im going to fly my CSA battle flag tomorrow just because these idiot politicians say I shouldn't.
