Huckabee’s Candidacy Could Mean Showdown with Libertarians
The Blaze ^ | May 4, 2015 | Fred Lucas

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will be entering a very different Republican primary field when he announces his candidacy Tuesday, one that will likely bring up the debate over where libertarians stand in the Republican party, while also facing more competition for social conservative voters than eight years ago.

“Huckabee does have name recognition having been on Fox News all this time,” Tim Hagle, a political science professor at the University of Iowa, told TheBlaze. “At the same time, after he won the caucuses here in 2008, there was a lot of concern that he wasn’t as conservative as some thought.”(continued)

Yes. I did not properly state that my post was "to" ansel12, and copying the two FReepers that were debating his posts (properly) earlier in the thread.

I was a FRedhead too. Here's one of my favorite 2008 Fred debate sequences (South Carolina), where he defines and nails the Huckster ....

The direction Governor Huckabee would take us in … liberal economic policies … liberal foreign policies … taxpayer funded programs for illegals … that’s not the model of the Reagan coalition, that’s the model of the democratic party.

Sure, this is 2015 and the first that I have heard that was not an endorsement.

It had given me the impression over the years that you thought that Romney was worse than Huckabee.

I was surprised when you made your 2012 endorsement for Romney, if that was an endorsement, but it sure looked like one.

No, I am truly mystified, this is years later and the first time I have seen 2008 addressed like this.

Now I’m curious about the place that Romney held among those three in your eyes, because I had always assumed that you saw Romney as the worst of the three.

MR. BECK PONDERS HUCK

Independent media maven Glenn Beck does not think Mike Huckabee has much chance to win the presidency — and he has a theory about what’s behind it all “in the smoke-filled rooms of the establishment GOP,” he says.

“I think he’s being put in as a spoiler. I think that’s the only thing. I really do. I think he’s there because he’ll pull religious votes away from Ted Cruz. And that’s the one that big government progressives are afraid of. The establishment is afraid of Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. They’re going to do everything they can to make sure those two are nowhere to be seen when it comes to Election Day. And so if you want to take care of Ted Cruz, you go after the religious base. And you split the religious base. And that’s what Mike Huckabee is doing,” Mr. Beck told his TheBlaze TV audience following the candidate’s announcement.

[pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South.]

Sorry, Ansell, Huckabee had his try at the brass ring and didn’t catch it. He’s old news with nothing to offer.

You don’t need to apologize to me, I have never supported him, and those aren’t my words.

You were quoting Jim Robinson.

We have a choice this time.

No, I don't believe there is any choice this time around. This is it - the last hurrah, so to speak. If we are to right the ship of state, the "choice" is clear: It truly is Cruz or lose. I'm telling you now, if Cruz isn't the man in the generals, the GOP can expect to lose on a grand scale in 2016. It's painfully clear that Cruz IS the ONLY CONSERVATIVE in the race. A vote for anyone else is a vote to push the GOP even further to the left, and Conservatives such as myself are tired of making that happen. Put the only Conservative in the race out front, or prepare to lose. As it stands, Cruz is the only GOP candidate I'll be voting for. If he ain't the candidate in the generals, it's straight 3rd party for me!

pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee

You for got to add pro-illegal immigrant and pro-food stamp, and pro-foreign aid to your list of alleged virtues.

I didn’t forget anything, you are quoting Jim Robinson.

Courtesy ping.

If you are going to keep saying this, you MUST inlcude Number seven:

... if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.

We don't need you muddying the waters.

We (conservatives and constitutionalists) don't need it. The Big Government Republicans need it, to run interference for Jeb Bush.
