In an interview for Newsmax TV, released on Monday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) accused President Obama of turning America into a monarchy. He also condemned Congressional Democrats for being partisan rubber stamps for a lawless president. While that style of blustering rhetoric is not unusual for the Republican Senator, he also went a step further by comparing President Obama to corrupt former President Nixon.
Trying to draw parallels to Nixons lawless abuse of power during the Watergate scandal, Cruz complained:
Weve had presidents in the past who have abused power. But when that has happened: When Richard Nixon abused power, Republican senators stood up to him and said, Mr. President, youve gone too far. In fact, it was Republican senators who went to the Oval Office, and said, Mr. President, its time for you to resign What is strikingly missing are Democratic senators who have more commitment to the Constitution and rule of law than they do to their party.
Cruz couldnt quite make up his mind, which scandal was like Watergate. He meandered about, criticizing Obama on immigration policy, foreign policy, and his nomination of Loretta Lynch for Attorney General, during the course of the conversation. All those Obama scandals presumably being equal to the Nixon conspiracy to cover up a political burglary, at least in Cruzs mind.
At one point, Senator Cruz finally tried to make the connection between Obama and Nixon more explicit, when he stated:
But the point is when the IRS targeted citizens groups for their political views, Democrats circled ranks around the president. To be honest, Nixon tried to use the IRS to target his political enemies. President Obamas administration succeeded.
He was trying to draw a comparison to Richard Nixons now infamous Enemies List. In August 1971, then-White House Counsel to Richard Nixon, John Dean, circulated a memo to Assistant White House Chief of Staff Lawrence Higby, titled Dealing with our political enemies. In the memo, Dean wrote:
This memorandum addresses the matter of how we can maximize the fact of our incumbency in dealing with persons known to be active in their opposition to our Administration. Stated a bit more bluntly-how we can use the available federal machinery to screw our political enemies.
Even the interviewer for the right-wing Newsmax TV program, was taken aback a little by Cruzs attempt to compare Obama to Nixon, noting that nothing Obama had done really matched the scope of Watergate, or Nixons enemies list.
Right-wing politicians like Ted Cruz have spent the past six years trying to convince the American people that Barack Obama is the most corrupt president in history. Ted Cruzs recent comments are an attempt to keep feeding that false narrative. As a potential presidential candidate he has to keep supplying red meat to satisfy the base. Never mind that the President wont appear on the ballot in 2016, being anti-Obama is the Senators main selling point.
Never mind that none of the imagined scandals have stuck, because the Obama administration is not acting outside the law, in the way that the Nixon White House did. Cruz is desperate to make something stick. Maybe by relentlessly crying Watergate or abuse of power he can get the attention he craves. Yet, much to Ted Cruzs dismay, no amount of heavy handed rhetoric from the GOP pretender for President, will change that fact that the Obama White House is nothing like the Nixon White House.
He was actually comparing the GOP politicians of Nixon’s day who met with him and talked him into resigning for the good of the country to the Democratic weasels of today who won’t do the same with Mr. Obama.
The author forgot to include “bomb thrower.”
At least Richard Nixon loved America.
He doesn’t want us to just fail. He wants us all dead, nuked by Iranian bombs inside 10 years. Impeach, convict, imprison.
Never mind that none of the imagined scandals have stuck, because the Obama administration is not acting outside the law, in the way that the Nixon White House did.
Nope. Try -— the Media and the President are the same party. Period.
How many border patrol officers ended up dead as a result of Nixon’s scandals?
No. Nixon, did not love the United States of America. I know that fact, from his actions and utter disregard for Our Constitution. Nixon’s only love was his ability to fool, the common US citizen, and treat us a foolish children/voters. Have you seen any political difference, since those times?
Nixon was patriotic.
“Reckless crackpot Ted Cruz ... “
In other words, ‘Welcome to the DUmp’.
The DUmmies really are sore about and stuck on Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. Yeah baby!
You can’t say that. It is racist because snow is white.
If Mark Levin is correct, Zer0 has committed a contempt of court offense over Judge Arthur Schwab’s ruling blocking the implementation of President Obamas sweeping executive action on immigration. Ted Cruz is correct. Zer0 is entering impeachment territory.
Actually what Ted Cruz is doing here is being smart trying to stir the pot into people questioning Obama like Rudy Guliani has without the fire storm and to tie the liberals into knots because they know if they bring attention to it it will open up a Pandora’s Box that they will regret they will open.
Those liberal blogs and media just twist everything.
Cruz was comparing the way the Pubs confronted Nixon for doing wrong, to the way Dems support and ignore Obama doing wrong.
Indeed, at least Nixon wasn’t lying about federal actions that treated literally all ten of the Bill of Rights as polite suggestions to be blown off at any moment.
Sometimes I think Nixon could win in Reagan type landslide if he could be resurrected and brought back to politics. Our options now seem so abysmal, especially if Republicans are just gonna stick to establishment types.
Expect “everybody Does It” Nixon comparison hit pieces like this to come out of “the incest fool pool” of stenographers competing with each other running the regime propaganda machinery. Those missives are all designed to depress conservative 2016 voter turnout.
Nixon is long gone and the lying Godless democrat (in name only) party are now the ones flipping the executive and when given a chance legislative switches on the printers grinding out paper mountains of directives telling US how and who to sleep with, marry, when to kill the babys, what to eat, vehicle to drive. While devising new taxes on the very sir we exhale.
STAY FOCUSED ON THAT......
In fact, what Cruz said, and what the author quoted, was that Nixon was held to account and 0bama hasn't been. I don't think you could be a conscious human being with an IQ over 60 who hasn't observed precisely that.
Liberals are funny.
LIBERALS are telling you TED CRUZ is who they’re scared of, and TED CRUZ WILL WIN !
