And for all of the talk about the depth of the Republican field, the opposition to Mr. Bush remains unclear and underwhelming.
That is in part because many of the high-profile potential Republican contenders like Ted Cruz, Chris Christie and Rand Paul are factional and flawed candidates with tough routes to the partys nomination.
Nonetheless, there will be demand for an alternative to Mr. Bush, even from within the so-called Republican establishment. Since Friday, attention has focused on Mitt Romney, who said in a meeting of top advisers and donors that he was considering a third run.
But the more compelling challenger may be Scott Walker, the battle-hardened governor of Wisconsin. He has made moves toward running, and on paper, hes the type of candidate who should deeply concern Mr. Bush.

All of the GOP candidates should be beating on the NYT.
When the elite, leftist media starts giving us advise on who to nominate, what do we do?
Christie and Paul, for sure ... Cruz is a politician man.
Sure is obvious who the dedicated Bolsheviks at the NYT want.
We need a statesman who honors the Constitution.
We tell the "elite" leftist liberal lamestream media to go F itself and make damn' sure a Conservative gets nominated.
That's what we do.
Then we get that Conservative ELECTED and watch them really get apopleptic!
Media is pushing Jeb Bush, and will continue to push Jeb Bush until the cows come home. Unless Romney or Christy jump in to divide RINO voters, Jeb the lone RINO will win again, just like in 2012. With lone RINO Mitt remaining in the final trio, the other two had no chance.
So in less than a month Jeb goes from Mr. 3 percent to the front runner?
I gotta call BS.
Conservatives can’t win GOP nomination without uniting behind a single candidate. Otherwise 2008, 2012 redux.
I like Walker ok. I think he is soft on amnesty and other issues. That being said, I don’t think there is anyway the people will elect someone without a college degree to the highest office in the land once the national media machine has their way with him. I just don’t see that happening.
I’m in for Cruz.
We know the Democrats would love Jeb Bush to run....just as with Romey....
I say no to both and will not vote for them. And I will not appologize for doing so. We all know the reasons why.
Yes, we need an anti-Obama, who flaunts the constitution and gets away with it.
Good freaking grief....Walker is workingon his college degree!!! He’s way more savvy than 99% of the people....even here.
This whole thing is lining up like a re-run of the last election....smells to high heaven!
True. Best hurry up and learn the lesson, pick ONE, seize the nomination and push forth.
Oh the left lusts over RINO Jeb....until they have him as the GOPe candidate then the honeymoon is over.
Walker is not at top of my list, buy I am OK with him. We could do worse. Lack of college degree did not hurt him in Wisconsin. But the unions will mount the most aggressive campaign against Walker after what he did to them in Wisconsin.
I think the bush-Romney rivalry is being staged in an attempt to get the populace riled up and to bleed off a lot of money from the conservative candidates, plus, the GOPe establishment types get a lot of coverage from the MSM, giving more bang for the buck, not to mention the news coverage from a faux rivalry.
The duo will probably team up on a ticket in a pre-arranged deal should one of them win.
Remember, the RINOS are much more afraid of the Tea Party types, and a good “fight” might up their conservative creds in some circles.
Kabuki at its best...but mighty fishy.
Ann,
Not disagreeing with you. I’m just looking at this from an electability standpoint. I might be wrong, but that’s how I see things playing out.
