In his speech, Romney criticized President Obama for not leading the country in the right direction the past four years.

He also laid out his five-point plan to create 12 million jobs in the United States.

The entire text of Romney's speech can be found here.

It was great

It was good but not great

It was OK

They said Ann needed to “humanize” Mitt, but I think tonight did that all on its own. I was moved by the tragic story of the elderly couple who lost a son and Mitt was there for them. I am passionate about getting this guy elected now. For all Romney’s faults, Obama could NEVER present a story like that because his past is a who’s who of Chicago criminals, Hawaii potheads, and card-carrying communists. This year, I will not cast my vote begrudgingly.

His reference to religious freedom was offensive because RomneyCare provides free abortions and he required Catholic hospitals to provide abortion pills. His decisions required Catholic Charities to stop doing adoptions in Mass. because they were going to be forced to do adoptions to same sex couples. I guess he meant that he should be free to practice his religion but not everyone.

It was the speech that happened hours earlier that got me. The statements from Ted and Pat Oparowsky about their son just made me tear up. That speech stopped everyone at the RNC dead. Yet, all the MSM can do is tear down Clint because he stuttered. God, I hate these liberal jackasses. They are worse than ever before.

“I have a plan to create 12 million jobs in America.” Duh Romney, what is your “plan?”

My take on what he said. The "re-industrialization of America", starting with achieving energy independence. Drill baby drill, responsibly, without trying to stop the rise of the oceans. Open up all sources of fossil fuel energy as well as proceed with nuclear. Encourage the coal industry, not bankrupt it, or freeze it like Clinton.

You can find what he said here.

I don’t remember McCain's speech.

Neither do I, but I sure do remember Sarah's. On that night, I said that our ticket was upside down, and it was.

“It was heart felt, honest, and upbeat. I think he’s an honest and upfront man, but I’m not in favor of his overall politics. Yet he’s ages above what’s in office today. We have no choice. It’s time to come to grips with that. Either/Or. “

Better an honest ‘moderate’ who loves America than a liberal who hates America. I don’t like many of Romney’s policies either, but at least he’s not going to go out of his way to damage the nation like the current resident has.

I call him a moderate and not a liberal, because liberals today are defined by their hatred of America and their dishonesty.

Hey, I can take “precious” a heck of a lot better than the “nose in the air” narcissist.

“I would fault him a bit for softpedaling on Obama, talking more about people disappointed instead of just flat out “This man has failed you.” but he made up for it with “YOu deserve better! America deserves better!” and really nailing him on the better-off question... anyway, its not his job to be attack dog.”

I agree that I would have liked to hear him rip Obama a new one, but honestly I think it was a good idea to give the ‘soft sell’ on that point. The focus needed to be on a positive message and vision of the American future, not on how much Obama’s screwed up. Give us something and someone to vote FOR, not just to vote AGAINST.

“I am picking a fight with the Federal Government.”

No, you’re not. You just want to get a rise out of people to get your jollys (I guess).

You've sure got a lot of mouth on you for a newbie. That's the second veteran Freeper I've seen you insult on this thread tonight.

He doesn't need to read word for word from a teleprompter to talk about his family.

I thought the speech was great, especially about energy independence by 2020. I just wish he would control the Mexican border, deport, and bring Fast and Furious felons to justice.

I liked his Middle East remarks.

No he wasn’t. He was born at the public hospital in Colon about 1.5k from the PCZ (Navy hospital wasn’t built until a few years AFTER he was born) plus the PCZ has never been considered sovereign US territory. It was leased land.

You might be right. W. Bush, Dole, Bush Sr, and of course McCain, all were no where near the conservative vision Romney provided. He is liberal for a Republican, but he did portray a vision of conservatism in contrast to the subtle Marxism of Obama.

Close enough.

Anybody But Obama.

Anybody.

So he’s using the word “replace”, huh?

I sure hope he’s leaving the repeal part unmentioned. If the pubbies don’t repeal before replacing, then Obamacare is still on books, albeit in modified form. That’s way too much like accepting the premise for my tastes.

It's a great speech, and served the purpose quite well. My own highlights:

Reference to Kennedy, Apollo project, and Neil Armstrong. It underlines America's leadership in something that no other nation could do.

Reference to his mother and his wife, Ann. It's geared toward female voters. I saw several ladies in the audience wiped their tears.

Reference to Mormonism. Some Romney critics suggested that he's been hiding his faith in fear of opposition from Evangelical Christians. Just like in the issue of Medicare, instead of being vague, Romney boldly talked about his Mormon faith.

His 5 talking points on what'll be his focus.

Newt/West are both fine men. But first, they should be able to persuade conservative voters in the primaries to vote for them. If they could get those 60-65% of Republicans, then great. If they cannot persuade fellow conservatives to vote for them in the primaries, how are the going to convince people in the general election?

Absolutely. I felt a resurgence of hope for America that I was afraid was gone forever. Romney has the skill set to move our economy forward, and that has got to be our singular requirement in a President right now.
