Republicans start to pour cold water over Sarah Palin White House run (RINO-licious!)
The London Guardian ^ | September 14, 2011 | Paul Harris

Posted on 09/14/2011 11:58:01 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

For months former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has played a "will she, won't she" game over a potential run for the Republican presidential nomination and the right to battle President Barack Obama for the White House.

But, in a strong sign that a run is increasingly unlikely, a growing chorus of Republican figures have now dismissed the idea or openly spoken out against it.

The development reveals a chasm between Palin and many senior figures in the party leadership. But, more worryingly for her supporters, conservative activists and Tea Party figures have also started to turn against Palin running for the nomination.

Criticisms have become much more acute since Palin recently gave heavily hyped speeches in Iowa and New Hampshire, but failed to declare if she was running or not. "There is a difference between talking about running and running. She did not announce, and that sends a strong signal that she is not running," said Scott Reed, a top Republican political consultant and former campaign manager for Bob Dole in his 1996 White House bid.

Reed said that Palin seemed content to give passionate speeches to her fan base but had failed to come up with any concrete policies or set up a viable ground organisation for a future campaign.

"She has not fleshed out her policy positions. She has not set people up in the early states. That suggests she is not serious," Reed said.....

I will vote for her if her name is on the ballot, no matter when she puts it on there. She is the one candidate that I do not have to consider long and hard.

Why should I care about the opinion of someone who actually has no idea how to win a national election?

True, and since Palin is going to run for Kyl's Senate seat in AZ, it's probably a moot point anyhow. ;)

Two mornings in recent history I’ll never forget:

1- 9/11 when I woke up to a TV news screen of smoke coming from the first tower.

2- The morning I logged on to Freerepublic and virtually every post for several pages was about Sarah Palin being picked as John McCain’s running mate. I wish I had saved a shot, because I can’t seem to find it on the internet archive time machine.

Both events have had immense consequences. If and when Sarah jumps in, it will be interesting to see a repeat of all Sarah posts on Free Republic.

I never voted for McCain but I proudly cast my vote for Sarah and would be honored to do it again.

As governor of Alaska Sarah got a good start on cleaning up the corruption in the state's politics. It's pretty telling that any of the DC Republican politicians who do not want Sarah as our next president are likely to be corrupt as well. Those are the republicans who need to get tossed out.

The longer she waits the more heads will explode.

She is inflicting severe brain damage on her detractors.

Take your time Sarah...there is nothing to worry about, at this point there is only blowhards as candidates anyway.

But, in a strong sign that a run is increasingly unlikely, a growing chorus of Republican figures have now dismissed the idea or openly spoken out against it.

They were and probably still are PRAYING for Mitt for BusinessAsUsualInDC. I strongly suspect the establishment GOP realized about a year ago that Mitt just was not going to really catch fire and started looking around for a replacement and presto! Gov. Perry became a trash-talkn' ruf-tuf conservative that left long time Texans wondering who this new Rick Perry was.

Now we see that very same gang of establishment GOP cronies proclaiming a smart campaign is "a strong signal that she is not running."

Really? Such powers of divination! They must clean house in Vegas, right?

And amongst the uproar, predictions, signals, knowledgeable opinions, experts, anonymous insiders, etc, the one source not quoted is, well, the source.

Governor Palin has clearly stated her intentions.

Even Hillbuzz can find it.

Based on filing requirement deadlines as I understand them, Governor Palin technically has until November 11th at 5pm to announce her campaign for the presidency (this being the latest she could submit her paperwork and the $35,000 filing fee for the South Carolina primary, which is the earliest filing deadline of any of the caucuses or primaries that will determine the ultimate Republican nominee).

The Governor, however, has promised to let her supporters know her intentions definitively by the end of September.

http://hillbuzz.org/2011/09/06/question-do-you-know-if- governor-palin-is-going-to-be-in-michigan-in-the-next-few-weeks-specifically-september-17th/>

Or how about here...

Palin has said she is considering entering the race for the 2012 GOP nomination, already under way in Iowa, which holds the first nominating caucus, and other early-voting states. She has said she expects to make a decision by the end of September, and is not expected to disclose her plans during her speech Saturday at a tea party rally in a town south of Des Moines.

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=45953>

Apparently there are some that are getting impatient. Whether you are supporting or throwing rocks will not change anything. Gov. Palin said "by the end of September."

On a "predictive" note, Gov. Palin indicated she is attending the World Knowledge Forum, which runs from Oct. 11 to 13 and is expected to discuss US leadership in the midst of global economic turmoil. Other speakers include former British prime minister Gordon Brown and Larry Summers, ex-director of President Barack Obama’s National Economic Council.

Given that an announcement of active candidacy prior to that would cause quite a stir and a reasonable expectation would be numerous public appearances around the U.S. the "end of September" time-frame settles in quite nicely.

The decision to run is hers but I would think attending the World Knowledge Forum as a candidate would present an outstanding opportunity to contrast herself against Larry Summers, ex-director of President Barack Obama’s National Economic Council.

Then BuckeyeTexan clued me in on David Brody / Gov. Palin and a direct question on the time-frame.

David Brody: Is that short order by the end of September? October?

Palin: I think that that is a fair time line for people, because Fall time, they can start getting engaged with different campaigns, but still thinking about it, and really, really desiring to be a participant in the positive change that needs to happen in this country.

http://blogs.cbn.com/thebrodyfile/archive/2011/08/12/sarah-palin-and-the-brody-file-one-on-one-at-iowa-state.aspx

Of course, direct quotes from interviews with Gov. Palin will not deter the folks that want to obfuscate a clear choice for real reform of the fed gov.

I just don't understand why folks will promote winning with a very questionable candidate vs. winning with a proven reformer. No one seemed to have a problem understanding what little bammy and the donks did with ObammyCare when THEY had the upper hand with majorities in both Houses and the Presidency.

The donks are so weak now unnamed generic "republican" candidates are besting little bammy. In such a winning environment why would one not want to win with a candidate that has a documented record of addressing the glaring problem... we need to clean house on BOTH sides of the isle which in many instances includes that very same gang of establishment GOP cronies.

So...

September - October.

Rush also said to vote for bamey in the primaries...

You are a bald-faced LIAR.

"Operation Chaos" was about Republicans crossing over and voting for Hillary in the Democrat primaries.

Lies are all you Perrywinkies have.

It’s The Guardian. Consider the source. Not saying the RINOs aren’t doing it, but the Guardian routinely turns a kiss on the cheek into a gang rape if conservatives are involved.

"Perry has the best chance..."

Why is that?

Is it because he wanted the state to force little girls to get a vaccine (for a sexually transmitted disease)?

Is it because his former Chief of Staff received over $250,000 to lobby for Gardasil-Merck?

Is it because he likes giving illegals tuition-breaks?

Is it because he rewards big donors with taxpayer money contracts?

Man! Am I missing the "conservatism" somewhere?

Bronze would it not be great to go to the poll and not have to hold our nose while casting our vote. Sarah is a conservative and more than that she is a leader and I pray she is willing to serve as President. If she does not run I will hold my nose and vote again.

Well, that's it for me!

I decided that Gov. Palin had until 3:40PM today to announce!

And she didn't!

That's it, I'm done with her!

Listen here Gov. Palin, you OWE ME your announcement!

And you OWE ME your announcement on my schedule!

I warned you -- I even wrote the date and time on my wall calendar yesterday!

After giving you this clear warning yesterday, did you announce like I expected you to?

NO! NO! NO! You didn't!

Gov. Palin, you clearly don't understand your responsibilities to ME!

ME! ME! ME! Got it Gov. Palin?

I'm so mad, I'm not ever going to say your name again!

I'm not going to post on a Palin thread EVER AGAIN!

Too bad for you Gov. Palin, but I gave you your chance, and you just won't do what I want!

I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!

So there!

------------------------------------

Whew, telling Gov. Palin what a looooooser she is took me a full two minutes -- but hey, it's clearly her fault!

Okay, okay, I'm a reasonable guy Gov. Palin, soooo, I'm going to give you another chance and set your new announcement schedule for the same time tomorrow.

I'm writing it on my calendar right now.

So, be forewarned Gov. Palin, you better not fail to announce tomorrow at 3:40PM, because -- you OWE ME!

Remember Gov. Palin, you OWE ME! ME! ME!

-- snip --

I wish I had saved a shot, because I can’t seem to find it on the internet archive time machine.

Forgive the LONG post, but...

This amazing forum is the ORIGINAL "Internet archive" time machine!

It takes some work, but you can use FreeRepublic's "Browse" function to "re-live" the posts made in real time here on almost ANY date.
To see the INDIVIDUAL POSTS made here on any given date, first you have to put your FR browser in the "comment" mode -- as opposed to the "article" mode, by clicking here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index?tab=comments
(It helps if you close any other windows on which you are viewing FR, so as not to CONFUSE the software.)
Then to see the individual posts made here on the morning of the 9/11/2001 attack, for example -- click here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index?more=106450
You can also use this technique to browse through the FULL ARTICLES posted on that day, but will take a little more work.

Then, to MOVE to earlier or later posts, just CHANGE THE NUMBER at the end of the URL, like THIS:

http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index?more=106500 <-- now ends in 500

(There are about FIFTY posts per page -- in REVERSE time order - the way that I view FR.)

Please TRY THIS, and see if it also works for you as well as it does for me.

The question is how her supporters will react if she announces she isn’t running.

______________________________________

That's one question.

Another is, why does she have to announce anything at all? Are you going to announce that you're not going to run?

It would not surprise me at all if she just runs the clock out without committing either way.
