Not a fan: Krauthammer calls Palin 'rather weak' and gives her 'no chance of winning' in 2012
The Daily Caller ^ | December 31, 2010 | Jeff Poor

Is the idea that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could be America’s next president laughable? Not only to many on the left, but also to conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer.

On Friday’s broadcast of “Inside Washington,” Krauthammer offered several reasons why Palin shouldn’t be considered the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election.

“What do you mean if not Sarah Palin in 2012?” Krauthammer said. “Who’s saying she’s going to be the presidential candidate? I don’t even hear her saying it. Her chances of being are smaller than half a dozen other people. If you talk to Republicans, I don’t think there are what, more than one in three who would tell you she has a chance of winning the presidency or even the nomination.”

Because of that, he said, she wasn’t the favorite.

“And she is not the favorite,” he continued. “She has a very strong core constituency but outside of that I think she is rather weak.”

Krauthammer has previously downplayed Palin’s chances and indicated he favors Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. He said Palin would not be the ideal candidate to unseat a “vulnerable” President Barack Obama.

“Her negatives are over 50 percent,” Krauthammer said. “She has no chance of winning a general election. Why would you want a candidate who is going to lose against a Democrat who is going to be vulnerable and who is also extremely ideologically ambitious?”

He even employed a Keith Olbermann catch phrase to describe Palin and said even fellow Republicans didn’t see Palin as qualified.

“A half-term governor? I’m not sure Republicans think of her as qualified.” Krauthammer said.

My involvement in this thread had to do with a pinhead calling someone the “enemy” because they had the temerity to question whether or not Palin was electable.

That "pinhead" would be me, mister. And, if you're going to tell the story of how this all started, then tell it right.

I took a poster to task for pushing the infamous "quitter" meme. That IS an enemy line, as has long been established on this forum by the countless analyses of hundreds of well-informed, thinking Freepers. And, in the interests of accuracy, I never called that poster an "enemy".

You failed to successfully refute my assertion that the "quitter" meme is indeed an enemy line, and instead, resorted to calling me names after I and others patiently explained it to you.

Get it straight, or leave it alone.

“Have you even mentioned someone you think is more qualified than Palin?”

From 271: ‘There may BE no one more qualified that we can field; my issue was with the poster who attacked someone for questioning her electabilty.’

Sorry, I see that reading is not your strong suit, “dude”.

I repeat then.

What’s the problem?

If you don’t think someone else is more qualified, then why are you whining so?

Funny how the Hunterites and Paulestinians make up the bulk of the Palinoia Posse. Or does Myth Romney or Gomer Huckleberry strike your fancy?

Folks here who see Palin as a great POTUS in waiting are falling for a cult of personality. The fact is she's not a great candidate nor does she look like much of a president. I really dislike her quitting as governor in AK. Don't care the "why" so much because the "quitter" label will resonate and stick. Politically, perception is reality.

Obama needs to be replaced with someone calm, capable and an experienced executive. I don't know who that is but I know it's not Palin or Huckabee. None of the names floated thrill me.

It's going to be an uphill battle either way. The natural tendency is to reelection a president. Over and above that, I can't help but think voters will be inclined to give Obama a "second chance" out of racial guilt.

There’s that “cult” word again.

Were supporters of conservative Ronald Reagan a “cult”?...

“Government is not the solution to the problem. Government is the problem”.

Is that the sort of thing, one hears in a cult?

The “natural tendency” is reelection during the worst economy since at least the 1930’s? With the complete takeover of the auto industry, the health care business, energy, public schools, the Internet and so much more? Really?

Sorry. I don’t represent Hunter or Paul or Romney or Huckabee. None of those folks thrill me.

But Saint Sarah does nothing for me either.

Yeah mister, I know you’re the pinhead...and no one “pushed” the “quitter meme” (and no one invited Cringing Negativism Network to use it as an oppotunity to spout his Sarah-worship). The poster said that it can and will be used against her, and it will. You may whistle past the graveyard on that one but anyone concerned about her success would be well advised not to. To mention it does not make anyone an “enemy” or “pushing the enemy line”. I would want any candidate I support to focus hard on their vulnerabilities and to be prepared to refute (in fact, they do it in debate prep all the time). Her supporters should be just as prepared for rational conversations that occur on 1:1 basis with potential supporters, not just try to shame someone into submission by calling them a RINO for not accepting her asendancy at face value.

“Get it straight or leave it alone”.

Get over yourself.

In normal times maybe Palin should wait several years and a couple more election cycles. But I think the country needs her now. and I think there is a reason God brought her onto the national stage. destiny, fate, whatever

no one “pushed” the “quitter meme”...

You're either a liar or a fool. I told you to "get it straight or leave it alone", but you apparently refuse to do either. Here's the post you claim never happened, and which started all this tonight:

Face it—if she gets nominated in ‘12, they will harp on the Quitter aspect. And frankly, its justified. She quit when things got tough and chose to be a professional celebrity. . AWas it fair? No, but life ain’t fair.

Sure they will. And will that persuade you to vote for Obama? No?

Use your head. Those who can be swayed by the MSM's knocks on Sarah Palin weren't ever going to vote for her anyway. Sarah's supporters already know the truth of the events surrounding her resignation, and understand that she outfoxed those who were trying to destroy her.

You're pushing the enemy line, here. I hope you know that.

As for the balance of your post, there are far too many inconsistencies for me to waste my time revealing.

The fact is, you're not really listening to anyone here. You're reacting like some hysterical, overwrought liberal, assuming that you're under attack, when that actually isn't the case. Track back to the beginning of this exchange, and it's apparent that you've become upset every time anyone has challenged you, or disagreed with anything you've said.

People on this thread have attempted to reason with you, and have encouraged you to get better data to straighten out your misconceptions, but your response to every one has been uniformly snarling and nasty.

No one here is out to get you. What you're not comprehending is that most of us talking to you have been through the debates you're trying to have, a long time ago, and are in possession of much that you apparently are not.

Try not to take it so personally.

Have a good new year.

OK, you win. She had a child with special needs instead of an abortion. (Why does this make her anything more than all the other moms who have done the same thing?) She is now qualified and will most certainly be a giant in American history. Next to Jefferson and Franklin. She is just going to come to DC and bear hug everyone into lock step agreement with with her.

If she had stayed as Governor and just went back to business in ALASKA, the MSM would have forgotten all about her. She could have stayed serious and came back in a few years and been a real player. Instead she went for the money and the glory. And she is only going to get one of those. Guess which one. (12 million last year)
Happy New Years!

I believe your opinion is mistaken. I see it more from a point of view that given all available alternatives to her at this point in time, she comes out head and shoulders above any other "choice" that has presented itself.

No candidate is "perfect", and all have "flaws" and "negatives", not to mention "issues" that the left (the media) will hammer away at mercilessly.

Given that situation, her "negatives" are no worse than any other potential candidate, and in fact her position is much more favorable on that front than perhaps one or two other possible candidates. Name another candidate who is leaning towards running and we can predict exactly how the MSM will rip into that candidate for their "shortcomings".

All in all, she leads the pack as far as a conservative candidate that actually has a chance to win in 2012. You may not like the field that is available, but it is what it is, and so far she is the best we have to work with. Until a better candidate comes along, I see no point in talking down about a person whose values reflect those that post on this board more than just about any other you can name.

The fear and loathing for Mrs. Palin is just oozing from you. All that hate is unhealthy and you don't seem to be perched on an even keel, IMO.

Either you're being purposely disingenuous, or hopelessly ignorant, and my money is on the former.

You still didn't answer my question. If Mitt Romney was the Republican Nominee in 2012, would you vote for him, vote for Obama, write in another name, or refuse to vote?

At this point, I think the answer is obvious, but I'd really like to hear your response.
