Is the idea that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could be Americas next president laughable? Not only to many on the left, but also to conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer.
On Fridays broadcast of Inside Washington, Krauthammer offered several reasons why Palin shouldnt be considered the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election.
What do you mean if not Sarah Palin in 2012? Krauthammer said. Whos saying shes going to be the presidential candidate? I dont even hear her saying it. Her chances of being are smaller than half a dozen other people. If you talk to Republicans, I dont think there are what, more than one in three who would tell you she has a chance of winning the presidency or even the nomination.
Because of that, he said, she wasnt the favorite.
And she is not the favorite, he continued. She has a very strong core constituency but outside of that I think she is rather weak.
Krauthammer has previously downplayed Palins chances and indicated he favors Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. He said Palin would not be the ideal candidate to unseat a vulnerable President Barack Obama.
Her negatives are over 50 percent, Krauthammer said. She has no chance of winning a general election. Why would you want a candidate who is going to lose against a Democrat who is going to be vulnerable and who is also extremely ideologically ambitious?
He even employed a Keith Olbermann catch phrase to describe Palin and said even fellow Republicans didnt see Palin as qualified.
A half-term governor? Im not sure Republicans think of her as qualified. Krauthammer said.

I never said that the opposition wouldn't attempt to use Palin's resignation as ammunition against her. What I said, is, that her resignation has been reasoned through, and debunked as a "failure" on her part, a thousand times on this website.
It comes down to what message center-right voters will be more receptive to in the primary. Will it be the opposition's "quitter" meme, or will it be Gov. Palin's reasoning for her actions?
I personally believe that Gov. Palin has been very effective at trouncing the MSM and her detractors, whenever she's gone toe to toe with them. Note that her popularity remains extremely high, even after two years of unrelenting, and scathing attacks by the lamestream press.
If I were ever going to be turned off from voting for Sarah it would be prompted by rude, demagogic fools like you.
It would be weak of you to be "turned off" Palin by anything I (or anyone else) says.
If you consider me to be "rude" and "demagogic", it's because I'm past the point of arguing things that have been argued hundreds, if not thousands of times here. I don't know how much time you spend here, or how well-informed you are about Gov. Palin and her rise to prominence, but for the majority of us who have watched all this with a keen eye, she has more than proven herself to be the best, most capable candidate going forward to 2012.
Yeah, but what about Angle in Nevada?? O’Donnel in Delaware? She can hurt in broader elections. Instead of Louden or Tarkanian, we got Dingy Harry for 6 more. And even though I could not stand Castle, right now I wish he was there instead of Coons.
And Obama had way more to do with the monumental GOP gains of November than Palin. Haley won the primary due to Palin. But in the general she won by only 4 points. In a huge GOP year. In a decidedly GOP state. To compare, Sanford won in 2006, a decidedly democratic year, by 10 points.
Lesson to take is she is good for red meat republican conservatives, yet independents just are not thrilled by her at all. Her endorsement hurt Haley in the general plain and simple.
Reagan has already served two terms.
The post above describes Palin’s argumentation as thin and scattered. I think that description is spot-on. That's my main concern with her. It's also the antithesis of what Reagan was, even in the early days of his political life.
We are not fighting facts, we are fighting well financed propaganda being waged on an Electorate too busy to realize they are being Punked.
How many people think Sarah Palin said she could see Russia from her house? Too many I'm afraid, but we will have to educate the ignorant masses no matter who is running against Obama.
If we continue to allow one sided unsubstantiated vitriol to determine who we elect as our Leaders, we are doomed as a Constitutional Republic.
Instead of Louden or Tarkanian, we got Dingy Harry for 6 more. And even though I could not stand Castle, right now I wish he was there instead of Coons.
Kraut's problem isn't with ALL holy rollers.... it's just the non-Kosher variety that make him soil his trousers. Both Krauthammer and Kondrake are the epitome of neocon scum.
Yes, we will be attacked. Funny, that’s what I would expect from the opposition but...oh well.
Stay the course and always stand up for your beliefs and...Happy New Year to you and yours.
I agree but reality is just not what some people want to hear. However...
Happy New Year’s Eve.
Never heard of Herman Cain. Most the Palin bashers can produce are more lists of unknowns by all but themselves.
Pathetic, aint it? And from these supposed free thinkers.
Yeah. What's up with all of those "free thinkers" debating the pros and cons of the potential candidates ahead of the primary anyway?
The nerve...
I am glad and salute you for standing up for your principles. I fear that all that will do though is give us another 4 years of Obama. I would love to have a candidate who is fiscally along the lines of Ron Paul and socially along the lines of Palin. But if I cannot get that I am not gonna vote for Obama by staying home.
When Sarah in sworn in as our next President, I’m going to send his article to him with a polite request that he shove it as far up his a$$ as possible! (Not sure how I ask him politely to do that, however).
Hmm, a new variety of Holy Roller ~ NON KOSHER ~ There’s just no end to this, but what is a KOSHER HOLY ROLLER?
There ya go. In a state that was so ready to throw out Reid, Palin endorses his opponent and look what happened!
Frankly, the only good thing about Delaware is the beach ~ now that is nice.
One more Republican victory and the Democrats will be so marginalized in Congress that we can simply expel them.
Don’t get me wrong, if its a choice between Sarah and Obama, Sarah gets my vote. Unfortunately, she has baggage and probably isn’t the best nominee we can field.
That's a South Carolina peculiarity ~ that gay politicians can be believed. Most the rest of the country distrusts them.
If that’s all that was going on, the comment wouldn’t have been made.
Questioning Palin has become something of a capital crime around here. Seeing that kind of cult of personality on FR is a bit unsettling.
I can see the White House from my roof.
