Not a fan: Krauthammer calls Palin 'rather weak' and gives her 'no chance of winning' in 2012
The Daily Caller ^ | December 31, 2010 | Jeff Poor

Is the idea that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could be America’s next president laughable? Not only to many on the left, but also to conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer.

On Friday’s broadcast of “Inside Washington,” Krauthammer offered several reasons why Palin shouldn’t be considered the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2012 presidential election.

“What do you mean if not Sarah Palin in 2012?” Krauthammer said. “Who’s saying she’s going to be the presidential candidate? I don’t even hear her saying it. Her chances of being are smaller than half a dozen other people. If you talk to Republicans, I don’t think there are what, more than one in three who would tell you she has a chance of winning the presidency or even the nomination.”

Because of that, he said, she wasn’t the favorite.

“And she is not the favorite,” he continued. “She has a very strong core constituency but outside of that I think she is rather weak.”

Krauthammer has previously downplayed Palin’s chances and indicated he favors Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels. He said Palin would not be the ideal candidate to unseat a “vulnerable” President Barack Obama.

“Her negatives are over 50 percent,” Krauthammer said. “She has no chance of winning a general election. Why would you want a candidate who is going to lose against a Democrat who is going to be vulnerable and who is also extremely ideologically ambitious?”

He even employed a Keith Olbermann catch phrase to describe Palin and said even fellow Republicans didn’t see Palin as qualified.

“A half-term governor? I’m not sure Republicans think of her as qualified.” Krauthammer said.

I assume you have no idea why she stepped down as Governor of Alaska, so I would advise you to Google “Palin” and “Nuisance lawsuits” for a starter.

If you care to research the reasons, there is an abundance of discussions on the subject here at FR.

“As much as I would love it if Sarah Palin became our President...I’m afraid she cannot.”
“Somebody around here has to be the voice of reality.”

The reality is we are going to elect Sarah Palin President and you are going to have to get used to it.

Start practicing, troll.

That is pure horses patooty. Sounds good to the folks who wish to believe it, sounds like excuses to anyone else.

An oath to serve is an oath, right? Those people elected you because they chose to believe in you. By telling them you are doing them a favor by stepping down, you would have to fade into the background instead of making tons of bucks and setting your sights on higher office.

Now how do you explain you want to be POTUS, but if folks start hammering you and things get tough, as they actually will, you will step down to do the people a favor? Who buys that stuff?

If Palin gets the nomination, I will hope that the person who should have been the President is VP.

I fully agree with you. We will be attacked for having a differing opinion than others. Sigh.

Clinton (for all his flaws) stuck it out and walked away with huge legal bills. He didn’t quit.

And that’s a good thing? Quitting would have been a very good thing for the country, but Clinton didn’t care that he was dragging his country through a septic tank. Gov. Palin had been totally immobilized by a national democrat party focusing its energy on one state governor to the detriment of the people of that state. She did what was best for Alaska. She took the bullseye off of Alaska and allowed it to go forward knowing she was taking a great risk politically.

She then transformed that risk into the success of the tea party, the 2010 midterm election, and the lead up to a presidential run. Considering that everything our current President touches turns to crap, we need a leader who knows how to turn crap into success. Gov. Palin’s resignation and her recovery from it has proven that she is qualified.

Daniels is a Princeton man, another Ivy Leaguer.

Got it in one. Krauthammer: Oxford and Harvard. Daniels: Princeton and Georgetown. Anytime you see one of these overeducated fools dissing Palin (Idaho), check out their wiki: In almost all cases, you're going to find ivy. Kruthammer, Frum, and most of the rest of this confederacy of dunces are appalled at the temerity of someone who went to anything but an ivy-league school aspiring to the presidency. They would have likely had the same objections to a graduate of Eureka College in Illinois.

You can expect Kraut to settle for Romney (Harvard) or Jindahl (Brown) if Daniels doesn't run or runs but bombs out; however, he'll express serious reservations if Pawlenty (Minnesota), Jeb Bush (Texas) or Rick Perry (Texas A & M) throw their hats into the ring.

Needless to say, Huckabee (Ouachita Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary) won't have a prayer with these folks.

Plus from what I’m reading, he’s another Ivy Leaguer...gosh, haven’t we had enough of them? I do say that, however, without first knowing anything much at all about the man.

I like Sarah Palin. I think she's a thoroughly decent woman and a forceful advocate for the America we all want back. But Ronald Reagan she is not.

I don't think we do a disservice to The Gipper by comparing Sarah Palin to him. It's only a comparison. No one (that I know of) has said that she is his equal, but she bears such a striking resemblance to the man, that it's hard not to link the two.

Reagan had 20 years more seasoning on him when he ran for the presidency in 1980, than Sarah does today. Give her another 20 years, and she will likely be just as deep as he was then.

I see Palin as a Reagan disciple and heir of the first order, and one who has inculcated his (and the Founders') wisdom as well as we could ever hope to find in a presidential candidate.

It's these, and other similar attributes, that have caused me to give my full support to Governor Palin, should she decide to run.

The kind of games they played with the Governor of Alaska cannot be done with the POTUS.

As for her stepping down—your solution would have been for her to stay and allow the office of the Governor to be completely overwhelmed and useless. This would be essentially an overthrow of the government of Alaska.

How can you possibly defend this position?

No, Palin did the right thing by stepping down.

If Sarah runs. She could raise enough money to stay in the raise and then show up in Tampa and sweep any needed delegates up off of their feet. There are not many figures in history who could generate that kind of passion.

so give her credit for being an important historical figure.

Will she be President ? Time will tell. Lets not forget that Richard Nixon was wrote off for dead in 62. Bill Clinton was boo’ed off stage at the 1988 Democratic Convention. people CAN comeback. and it CAN happen. not saying it will. but she can work hard and win

This “joke” did more than anyone to affect the outcome of the 2010 election. Without her support, Susana Martiez, Nikki Haley, Renee Ellmers and many other conservative Republicans never would have been nominated/elected.

She targeted 20 incumbent Democrats in congressional districts McCain/Palin carried in 2008. 18 of the 20 were defeated.

The Kraut. He used to write a regular column for Time or Newsweek back in the day. I couldn't figure out whether he was a conservative or liberal, since he sometimes made sense.

I guess he's been a RINO all along.

Barring some major unforseen circumstance, Palin will be the Republican nominee in 2012, and I couldn't be happier about it. She may be inferior to Reagan in some ways, but in others, she will be superior. I'm speaking of her willingness to fight the LSM --to the death.

What have to do what is right win or lose.

I would rather stand up for what is right and lose than go the RINO way and win.

If Palin is rejected by the Republican voters in the GOP primary, I am no longer a Republican and I will work to defeat Republicans as long as I live and support true conservatives outside of the party.

Okay, I'll bite...in what ways can Sarah Palin be superior to Ronald Reagan?

Already she has been more successful than Reagan was in changing the dynamics in the field. One has to wonder what measurable change all his musings really accomplished prior to his ascendancy to the presidency.

I challenge anyone to name just one person in the current field of candidates who has risked more and done more to advance not just conservative ideas, but conservatives period. There is on one.

She won the nomination in the 2010 midterms. She could decide not to run, which is why we are seeing moles and trolls talking about people like Daniels and Cain in hopes that Sarah will be discouraged from running. Or the tea party might lose favor with voters, which is why the attack will shift to the tea party groups as soon as Sarah announces that she’s a candidate.
