This is by far one of the most amazing and saddest videos (audios) I have ever seen/heard. More than anything else, the following is exhibit A about lawful gun owners in America, particularly those who have used their weapons to defend themselves. Far from the gun-crazed, trigger happy racists the liberal antigun crowd would have you believe, they are really just regular folks who want to go about their business. The remorse in the woman's voice at the end of the video gave me goosebumps. And the dispatcher deserves a medal for being as supportive as she was of this brave woman defending herself and her home. It's a tragedy, no matter how you look at it. You can read the full story and hear the entire 34 minute 911 call here.

That’s got to be one of the most powerful things I’ve heard in a long time.
She had no choice. Likely someone that determined would have raped and tortured and killed her.
It was self-defense plain and simple and I don’t see that that qualifies as murder, even in God’s eyes.
She needs prayer that she’ll be able to come to grips with this and not let the remorse ruin her life.
This likely qualifies as a prayer ping.
'specially if the perp is related to half the county admin and LEOs.
Prayers for this woman.
I guess I could have Googled :)
Bump.
Listened to the whole tape. That is rough.
I live in a rural area and it takes law enforcement about an hour to get to us and we live in a town.
The perp here was drunk, drugged or both, and this woman did the right thing, hard as it was.
Someone looking for help doesn’t break in like that. He climbed over a locked fence and fought off a dog. Someone that “out of it”, who knows what he would have done.
Sadly, I bet that the guy’s family will file a civil suit for ‘wrongful death’ against this woman.
/bump for later
Oh I’m sure they will. Agreed, he was drunk and most likely had bad intentions-—clearly wasn’t in the right state of mind. She did do what she had to do and I’m glad she did, but I bet you she’s going over the situation in her mind, wondering if she could’ve inflicted a non-life ending wound.

That is hard to do with a shotgun at close range (although I don’t know if it was birdshot or buckshot in the gun). Add to that, fear and adrenaline, and there really could have been no other outcome.
I don’t doubt she wonders if she could have handled it differently, I think that is a natural response. But from the outside in, she did exactly what she should have done.
Many of us live in rural (the "sticks") Oklahoma and know that we can't count on speedy emergency response. Please note that when driving on gravel roads, it matters little that your vehicle is capable of 150+ mph. ;0)
I agree—prayers are in order. She’s from around here, and locally, they’ve played this recording quite a bit. The last thing she wanted to do was to have to kill someone, and it was devastating for her to have been forced to do so.
One of the things I tell my students, or anyone else for that matter, is that "when seconds count, police are just minutes away". I don't say that as a negative toward the law enforcement officers... But it is the truth. In my county of 614 square miles, there are only 6 deputies patroling on any given night, with a couple of those being reserve deputies. There is no way that these guys can get to my house in time to protect my family or me from an intruder. It is my job to do that - so I am prepared to so.
Personal protection is your own responsibility... Make sure to be responsible.

Which is it?
20 or 34?
This is why the gummint wants us all to live in tighty packed cities:
So they can, ahem, PROTECT us better!
SIN!
It’s a hell of a thing, killin’ a man, you take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have”
(Clint Eastwood, Unforgiven)
Yep...it broke my heart hearing her cry and being so alone. I kinda wished I could be there to hug her and let her know she was not alone. The dispatcher did a great job with her. God help her get through what she’s going through.
I guess I’m late too the thread.
She could have used:
“This is a shotgun - one of the nastiest guns in the world; it’ll blow your head CLEAN off.
In all the excitement; I lost count of whether I’ve COCKED it or not. Do you feel LUCKY - PUNK??”
Very true, my heart goes out to her.
“The great object is that every man be armed...Everyone who is able may have a gun. But have we not learned by experience that, necessary as it is to have arms,...it is till far from being the case?” Patrick Henry, Founding Father. This statement was after the end of the Revolutionary War
