Billboards have Bill smokin' mad/Edmonton Mayor is CHOKED/LOL

Tom Goodchild says Mayor Bill Smith has an ego problem.

Smith says Goodchild should skip politics and stick to flipping burgers.

The very personal grudge match between the restaurateur and the mayor hit the streets last week when Goodchild put up billboards criticizing the city's smoking bylaw and accusing Smith of depriving the public of their "freedom of choice."

"We're the leading country in economic growth and I'm the mayor of the best city in Canada - draw your own conclusions," Smith huffed about the ads yesterday.

"We're number 1. We're not number 2. Am I trying to drive business away? Tell him to worry about selling hamburgers."

Goodchild, meanwhile, accused the mayor of avoiding a debate with him on the bylaw - which forbids smoking in restaurants where kids are allowed - and on Smith's plan to ban smoking in bars.

"He's a rude and arrogant man," Goodchild said.

"Tell Bill Smith I do not sell hamburgers. I sell (primarily) Triple-A Alberta beef."

Goodchild, owner of four city restaurants and a banquet hall, said he's fighting several tickets he's been given under the smoking bylaw.

"It's not hurting my business because I'm not listening to the bylaw."

Smith said yesterday he still plans to charge ahead with his notion of banning smoking in bars.

"I'm not backing down, but council as a whole will deal with any amendments that have to be made," Smith said.

For what it's worth, this is the same Edmonton mayor who refused to issue a proclamation in support of homosexuals on Gay Pride Day a few weeks ago.

Think I saw an article yesterday about NY going after internet/mail order/indian reservation sales. Anything over two cartons and their going to nail you.
At this rate it will be a felony to transport a cheeseburger across state lines in 5 years.
We better stop these fascists soon

Heard quoted as a car sped by with two police cars in pursuit, "You'll never take me alive, coppers!".

Thank God there are plenty of scofflaw Canadians! It's not only Yanks who say 'Don't tread on me'.

Here in Vancouver, we have an insane anti-smoking bylaw which is summarily despised and ignored in the better sort of establishments.

Teach your children to disrespect wrongful authority.

Disrespect unlawful authority.

Didn't God say that first?

I believe it was said "when mans laws conflict with Gods laws then we are instructed to follow Gods laws, not mans."

That would seem to be an obvious point to anyone who believes in God.

You would not believe the number of Christians who have been decieved on this issue. Look at the number of so called Christians who thing Abortion is OK. That is the only reason Abortion is currently legal in this country. If all Christians spoke out against it it would not be legal.
