Conservatives not satisfied with Bush's record

Conservative lawmakers and activists disappointed with President Bush's first 18 months in office are calling into question his tactics and strategy in advancing the conservative agenda.

"The president for the most part has been our guy," said House Majority Leader Dick Armey, Texas Republican and a prominent conservative on Capitol Hill. "A few times we disagree."

I do not think he has either a firm philosophy other than wanting to be pleasing and be pleased and I definitely think he does not bother to think anything through for himself. Sam Nunn would have made a great President and one who would have stood us in good stead right now.

Well let's see a tax cut, dropping out of the International court, saying no to Kyoto, stating that the 2nd amendment is an individual right, etc. etc.

VERSUS

Signing a bill denying political speech for groups of like-minded people prior to elections, proposing a Socialist Housing Program, stripping out most of the conservative points from the Education bill, defending current unconstitutional abrogations of the second amendment, etc. etc.

We must win elections at all costs.

Two short years ago, I would actually have made that statement, and believed it.

I'm too old and I've been burnt to many times. If a politician won't stand up for principles, I won't stand up for the politician.

I've had my name removed from the RNC and the RPV (Republican Party of Virginia) mailing lists.

I'll still vote for GOP candidates (George Allen will always get my vote). But I won't ever again be considered one of the "party faithful."

Or am I asking too much?

If you have to ask, you already know the answer.

This is slightly off-topic, but it seems to me that GWB wasn't veering to the left quite so much earlier in his term. Could this accelerated caving to the left be due to Marc Racicot - the RNC chairman. He replaced Jim ? - Governor of Virginia last fall. Any thoughts on this? It just seems to me that Dubya suddenly has a political tin ear and it could be the advice he's getting. Maybe Racicot is a rino? Any thoughts on this?

And that is EXACTLY why the GOP's figuring they can find more reliable votes ELSEWHERE. You folks bolt to a third party or stay home if things don't go EXACTLY the way you want them WHEN you want them. Guess what? Politicans have their pride, too. They'll find the votes elsewhere.

If you want them to take principled stands, you'd better back them up when they have in the past, and be KNOWN as reliable supporters, or else they won't be willing to take the principled stands when it counts.

As I said, the evangelicals were not turning out in the numbers that were expected by Bush and Rove... If you won't work for them, why should they work for you?

So, Rove didn't get the turnout of conservatives he expected to get when he ran a liberal campaign, therefore he will turn to group who he expects can get them elected?

Is that correct?

If so, isn't it slightly hypocritical to condemn conservatives for looking elsewhere for a Presidential candidate when the current one disappoints?

So, are we abandoning the "Bush is Looking at the BIG Conservative Picture" argument now?

It has to do with the nonexistent base acting like spoiled children who never had to work in the real world.

The qeustion is, will you work for a House or Senate that will keep the bill from getting to his desk in the first place? A GOP House kept that gun-show bill from becoming law in much worse circumstances. You can thank Tom DeLay for that one.

You make a point worth making.

This may cause me to vote in the Congressional and Senatorial races. I'll be in the booth anyways to vote for the Governor.

Nope, Laz is right, and must be, because right now, I think we would probably be better off with a conservative Democrat in the White House.

As sickening as the thought is, Evan Bayh would never have done all the FDR stuff that Bush has. I am not exaggerating.

What bums me out most about Bush is how much he COULD have done in the wake of September 11.

Let me review: New Yorkers beating the drums for war.

Hillary being booed.

Democrat Senators totally emasculated. In the words of Daschle, "let no light and no room come between Bush and us."

Polls at ninety percent.

People ready to consider immigration reform. (Will they ever do so again?)

The American Jewish vote, usually 90 percent pro-Rat, every single election, without fail. Bush had attracted their attention.

Imagine if only Bush had come out unequivocally in favor of the Israelis kicking the pals out. Imagine the American Jewish vote being majority GOP for the foreseeable future.

He instead had to have the fat-assed girl arab princes over to the Double Wide Ranch. What a fool.

It all would have been great, and Bush could have gained favor with so many other constituencies as well,

But moreover, he could have REALLY advanced the conservative agenda.

He could have made the conservative cause palatable and understandable to SO MANY liberals who would have listened, in the wake of September 11.

But he TOTALLY BLEW IT.

And he is going so far left now, there is just nothing to explain it.

If you decide to stay home, they will go elsewhere for the votes, and you might not like where they go. My advice, get in there, swing the elections his way, and build up some serious markers.

They are going elsewhere anyway - to illegal aliens, for one. My vote is ALWAYS based on moral principles - nothing else. I could not care less what letter comes after the name. If there was a Democrat who was anti-abortion, anti-gay agenda, pro-small govt., pro-Constitution, I would vote for that candidate. Alas, no such animal exists. By the same token, this type of candidate is becoming increasingly rare in the Republican Party.

The other major issue for me is Bush's complete failure to clean up the federal agencies poisoned by Clinton. No one has been fired in the DOJ, FBI, etc., no scandals have been investigated to hold ANYONE accountable. Nothing of any real substance has been done to stop the murder of the unborn.

Moral principle is king. My next vote goes to the Constitution Party. I invite all to visit their website and read about what a candidate with REAL MORAL PRINCIPLES looks like! wwww.constitutionparty.com

If I'm not mistaken, the thing he's supporting is a tax credit, i.e. people take some of that off their tax bill. Quite frankly, I can't see why having people's money go to those who build homes is WORSE than having it go down the black hole of the Federal government. Perhaps you could explain it.

On CFR why give your enemies a hammer to beat you with when the ad bans will probably be stripped. The Housing program is income based and helping people become home owners makes people more conservative. Uh the democrats stripped most of the conservative issues out of the education bill. There is that pesky dashole Senate again. Oh yeah which administartion has stated that the 2nd amendment is an individual right?

"Dang, you got the armadillo? The fresh stuff?"

We shot it ourselves.

Remove your blank adapter from your M-16. Take one unfired blank cartridge and put it nose first into the barrel of the weapon (somewhat using the M-16 as an old-style grenade-launcher). Chamber another blank round into the M-16 and go hunting. When you see an armadillo, first the weapon. The pressure from the firing propels the blank that had been lodged in the end of the barrel at your target. Usually, out of an eight-member squad, you could count on two or three striking the armadillo and, if you were lucky, hitting it in a sensitive enough place to kill it ... usually the head.

Gut it, skin it, carve it up and either roast it over the fire or trade it for fish that you could get from the mechanics who always parked their M-88 recovery vehicle near an impoundment so that they could fish off the front of it.

Ahhh... the good old days ... when we were so young (and too stupid to know it).

Well gee I guess you want an increase in social security taxes like Reagan did and not reforming Social Security like Bush wants to do.

Say you hired someone to cut your lawn. But instead of doing what you hired him to do, he digs great big holes, tears out your flowerbed, spraypaints his name on the fence, and urinates on the pegonias.

That's a pretty weak analogy. Since you are likely the only one to hire someone to cut your yard then you can make whatever decision you want concerning who you hire. However in this case millions of people voted and the decision belongs to all of them. Those childish enough to throw away their vote and not vote deserve whatever they get anyway

In other words those who pack their bags and walk away have no complaint with whatever happens. You are obviously not happy with Bush, I am happy with him and think he is doing the best job he can do with the hand he was dealt. Besides I don't think I agree with all your agenda anyway so I probably ought to pack my bags if he gives you what you want. Only thing is I'm not childish enough to do that.
