I am watching President Bush giving a speech on CNN telling us he is expanding federal government more than any Democrat since Truman.

The Onion is great, expanding government isn't.

I saw no expansion, per se. Instead Bush's reorg is likely to reduce government growth, since all of the homeland security stuff will be one agency, as opposed to every cabinet department having its own homeland security division.

and duhbya's solution is to throw more money at the problem.I agree. Why bother spending tons of cash on trying to figure out the next terror attack. We will know as soon as it happens and the monetary cost wasn't all that bad this time.

No, you're wasting time, putting off the reorganizing of your socks drawer.

When in doubt, put your trust in your judgement about the character of the man.Does he have good instincts? A good political nose? Does he continue to suprise his opponents? Do they go to the mat to help him?
It worked under Reagan, and the naysayers were proved wrong, time after time, after time, after time.......

Wow only 24 replies on a "Breaking News" thread "titled in a way to push buttons and it has been up for 20 minutes, while the thread basically titled "President's speech" has 10 times the replies.
Hmm, maybe the scare tactics don't work anymore.

Instead Bush's reorg is likely to reduce government growth, since all of the homeland security stuff will be one agency, as opposed to every cabinet department having its own homeland security division. A new cabinet position along with the attendant bureaucracy has just been announced, my guess is that tens of thousands will staff the new department.

When I clean up and reorganize my closet, am I expanding it?When trying to cram 10# into a 5# bag, expansion usually is the net result, no matter how much you call it "reorganization".
To: UnBlinkingEye
I hope it doesn't expand government, just reorganize national and homeland security measures, as the President said. We shall see.

I really don't know what to think, is this good or bad? If it's good, why is it good? If it's bad, why is it bad?

But I'm starting to really wonder how far the Bush admin. is going to take things. They'll take it as far as it needs to be taken to protect the country. And the American people will support whatever steps need to be taken.
Including racial profiling, if it comes to that. And it may come to that.

I heard the same speach. It sounded quit different to me. I heard that they all had their budgets, just who is reporting to whom has changed ... Eliminate the turf wars ... Lofty goal. Hope it works.

Actually, I think this is great. The Secret Service should not be under Treasury, INS should not be under Justice. All these motley crew guys got to come together under one roof. Me likes.

Some of us like our freedoms enough to trust our protection to God,Well, God fell down on the job on 9/11, didn't he?
