Now That Bush Has Sold Us Out... What are we going to do about it? (vanity)

Posted on 03/13/2002 2:47:41 PM PST by Michael2001

Well I'm mad and I'm angry, and maybe that's why I can't think of an appropriate response. While all of us were prasing him for how he was dealing with the war on terror, Bush passes this Amnesty Bill, something that not even the sneaky Bill Clinton would do. This is one of the worse Bills to pass through Congress, it will hurt us in many ways, and ten years from now we will still be feeling it's effects.

Bush has, without a doubt in my mind, sold us out for the Hispanic vote. He sold us out because he can take our vote for granted (who will we vote for Al Gore?). Is he wrong? What do we do when the Republicans stop looking out for our interests? Is it time for a new party, or do we work within the party and try to root out the Republicans In Name Only (of which there are many)?

"You're comparing apples to oranges. Reagan was president roughly two decades ago. He was operating in a very different historical context."

No he wasn't -- he made deals to get other things he wanted. I followed and did a many of college papers on reagan when he was president and he did go along with alot that many people here would be screaming about. I wrote a 20 page paper one time on him in 1988 or 1989 and I remember how supprised I was at all the deals he made that went against what he said in running for President. He backtracked on probably 30-40 issues to get his defense budgets approved. If you study what he said in the 1996 primaries he was a different man in 1984. He made alot of these deals with Tip O'Neil at an Irish pub a few blocks from the whitehouse. When they met at the Pub for a few drinks there was always a deal made and it wasn't well known until Tip started talking after he announced his retirement. At the time I didn't think this was bad at all since the Senate and House were both democrat but thinking about this compared to Bush I think Bush is giving the dems a few cookies and the rest of us a bag of cookies.

I prefer to be happy with the bag of cookies and let the dems have their cookies and when they bitch too much give them a cookie here and there. I the end we end up with a lot more cookies then they did !

My initial reaction is to vote for a third party candidate

Why wait for an election. Let's try to have him impeached.

Bush only THINKS he can get the Hispanic vote. This is a pet delusion of Karl Rove and various neo-conservative ideologues.

So true. More Hispanics in the state of Texas voted for Gore than Bush. They came out in droves Tuesday to vote for the ultra liberal fascist, Tony Sanchez. They are very enthusiastic over this guy. These same people are going to vote for Dubya over a liberal candidate for President? roflol. I don't think so. lol

Sounds like you have listening to much Barbara STRESSand, "The Way It Was." This bill is all about permitting illegal aliens ( that's right, they are illegal and therefore criminals ) to join the ranks of American citizenry.

I'm 90% happy with Bush even though this backdoor amnesty or whatever folks want to call it makes me queasy....it's still the only game in town....the alternative is exponentially worse.

Ah, a new resident expert on Texas politics. We had so many already. What a veritable feast of talent is on view in this very neighborhood.

Legalize it 90 years of nothing screw the DEA

Yes ---might as well. It's very stupid the way the WOD is being fought ---all kinds of deals are made with the biggest supplier of illegal drugs, they aren't stopping drugs from coming in (often carried or driven in by illegals). Even the pro-WOD people want these illegals given the freedom to come over here as they please, so why waste the money.

But if you want a plan, I can propose that we begin looking at ways to continue what Free Republic is evolving into: from news/discussion, to hard-core grassroots activism.

Bill Simon for President?

"Great state of Texas" now is it. Ummmm, next time you're bashing Texas, (should be soon, you're about due aren't you?) you won't mind terribly if I throw that quote back in your face?

....and it causes the Republicans to lose the presidency it will send them a message.

Well, yeah, but it won't impress guys like Jack Welch and the rest of the owners of The Machine. Like David Horowitz keeps telling us, they've always got their go-to boys in the Other Same Party.

Need to form a grass-roots Conservative party.....and go talk to the Buchananites and the Greens. Could do the NWO a lot of damage, putting all the contrary opinion together, whaddayathink?

The linkable idea, the common value that would allow Conservatives to work with Buchananites and Greenies is that, we pretty much agree that we didn't found a free country, just to sell it out to Geneva, Brussels, the East River kleptocrat mob, and the big multinationals that fly no flag but live under the Skull and Bones.

What's the point of living in a Jeffersonian democracy, if it's been reorganized as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Fortune 500 and the U.N.? As a no-load mutual fund for billionaires?

What happens when the U.N., the Marxists that run the E.U., and the Chamber/Fortune 500 crowd decide to put it all together?

Does anyone here think that power doesn't attract power -- and corrupt, power-junkie personalities? Anyone think these guys aren't putting it together as we write?

They are slobbering over Sanchez here (which has very high levels of immigrant voters from Mexico). Sanchez creamed Morales in the primaries here ----which wouldn't be likely if there were many conservatives. Sanchez is about as liberal as they come, he's pro-gay, pro-abortion and the Hispanic voters worship him.

"The thing that kills me is that it's not even about CITIZENSHIP.......it's about GREEN CARDS. " -- Howlin

Tell me what American citizenship means, anymore. We are just another state of the UN. And Bush is going to Mexico to listen to the Conference of State Taxation.

So tell me, what your proud heritage means while a two-bit Texan waters down the significance about our national soveignty while welcoming international taxation. Tell me.

10 years from now will only be the beginning of this problem. Long term, this issue is larger than any other issue facing our "nation". This bill virtually seals this country's fate. We are going to slowly slip in world status. We will also keep sliding down the slippery slope of socialism. An uneducated, unskilled, and poor populace makes this easier to accomplish. Bush will not receive the majority of votes from Hispanics, NOR WILL HE RECEIVE MINE!

I'm not giving up on the President just yet. Having said that, I'm not comfortable with the direction the Bush Administration is taking on the domestic front. We know pretty well how their foreign policy is conducted via Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, and Rice. I don't see an equivalent openness in who is advising the President on domestic affairs and how that policy is formulated. Any thoughts?

Yeah! Where's our health insurance??? Is anybody even addressing this issue in the Admninistration??

I guess when we have a Dem president in 04 I'll have to live with your choice as well.

Look, this discussion is pointless.  You're convinced that nothing worse could happen than a Democrat be elected.  Democrats have an agenda.  If they propose it the Republicans will oppose a portion of it if for no other reason that to appeal to voters.  "We're different.  Vote for us."  But when a Republican proposes a Democrat agenda item, who opposes?  Nobody.  Is that your idea of perfection?

Who opposed Bush's $40 billion dollar budget increase for the Department of Education?  Who is opposing his $300 health care agenda?  Who opposed his amnesty of illegal aliens?  Who opposed the worst portions of the Patriot Act?  I could go on.  The point is, the best possible advocate for liberal policies is a Republican.  Best for who?  Why the Democrats of course.  They couldn't pass half this stuff.  They'd be opposed if they tried.

Doesn't this make some sense to you?  If Gore were in there right now, Republicans would be blocking 50% of his agenda.  So far they've blocked none of Bush's.  And in my opinion they should have blocked a lot of it.  A lot of it was nothing more than a liberals bets pipe dream.  I'll bet even you wish they would have blocked several items on Bush's wish list.

Do I want Gore in there.  Absolutely not.  I want a "true" conservative in there.  But we'll never get a true conservative as long as we play along to get along.

Yes. I keep my AM radio dial tuned off of Medved and Limbaugh ... and a host of other talk-show charlatans. They are as bad (if not worse) than the liberal mass media for their own cacophony.
