The government is taking immediate steps to put more licensed handguns on the streets in the hope of citizens being in the right place at the right time to prevent terror attacks. Senior police officials have acknowledged that in several cases of late, citizens prevented continuing bloodshed by using their licensed weapons against terrorists.
The army will be issuing handgun permits to 40,000 reserve duty officers of the rank of captain and above. Permit will also be granted to former combatants from commando units, and retired police and Prison Authority officers.
Officials estimate the actions could result in an additional 60,000 handguns on the streets nationwide.
Police Chief Shlomo Aharonishki acknowledged that citizens have taken the initiative and brought terror attack to a halt, but he added, he remains concerned over a situation in which citizens with licensed weapons may be too light on the trigger.
Ministry of the Interior officials report that since the start of the Oslo War on Sept. 29, 2000, there has been an 80% increase in the number of licensed handguns nationwide, pointing out that in 2001, 4,588 permits were issued as opposed to 2,550 in 2000. Ministry officials add there are currently 340,000 licensed handguns nationwide, 265,000 of which are issued to private individuals.

How could anyone be happy with the requirement that they must have "gov'mint permishun" to purchase a handgun?
What part of "shall not be infringed" don't they understand? Rights are not rights if you have to have a "permit".

Thanks, you answered my question. In Texas you don't need a permit to buy either. I bet these other guys (some in N.C.) were being told the feds require it or the state requires the permit not the feds.
The only reason I am belaboring this point is any non gun owner might look at this extra barrier that really doesn't exist in their state and just throw up their hands and say screw it.
We need as many people armed as possible so they become pro-gun voters.

I think you have convinced me.
Now I am going to have to find out why my ultra-conservative state(actually former state of residence, I moved)has such strict gun-control procedures. I used to live in nebraska.

My favorite phrase is "you're right Big Ern" but I will settle for your "I think you have convinced me."LOL

I agree with you. I am now quite angry that I was told by gunshop employees that it is a federal law that I must have a permit to purchase. I will have to look into this and I will be dispensing some harsh words next time I am in that gunshop. I think I better "walk it off" now before I start posting venemous anti goverment ideas on this forum and get myself into lots of trouble.

Any one above the age of 21 who doesnt already have at the very least a shotgun for the protection of their family, self and home is just a deer in the headlights IMHO..........
9-11 should make all aware that 1911A1 is better than 911 anyday.......for the want and need of 4 handguns in those 4 aircraft cockpits maybe we'd be laughing at the polidiots and presstitutes still counting ballots in Floriduhh versus where we are today............
Just my opinion of course, Stay Safe ....

Always beware the gunshop counter commandos ! Remember they are just used car salesmen with pistolas per se :o)
Good place to find solid information is your local IDPA chapter (International Defensive Pistol Association .....IDPA.com ?). Try and learn what works and doesn't before you go through the money, trouble and paperwork. Good people in that organization.

$90 will get you 18 handgun permits in NC... In New York 50 bucks will get you a non-refundable "No! You cannot have a permit for a gun because you're not rich and/or politically connected! Re-apply again tommorow and bring back another non-refundable 50 bucks with you!"

"If you are getting a CCW permit next, what is the 5 dollar permit for? "I think thats so when North Carolina decides to confiscate guns at a later date, they will know who has them, and where to go to get them:( Glad I live in Texas.

You're right on all counts again. BTW I picked up a pistol grip for my shotgun because I was at a gun show in Florida and couldn't buy any weapons so I had to do more than buy books or I would've been embarrassed had they searched my bags at the airport.

Check out serbu.com if ya get time.......I bought one of their little 12 gauges about a year ago and it is quite the little "NoJack" car safety device's......

I dont need a "permit to purchase" here, either. Just walk in, pick the pistol ou want, plunk the money down and after the NICs you wander back out with it. No permits, no additional fees. Cant carry concealed here (
yet) at all but there are no additional permits or paperpwork.

That supershorty better be loaded with low power shells!
something like the minishells from aguila ammo, maybe?

Filed for my permit yesterday (NC). $5 fee, 2-3 day wait, good for 5 years, pleasant staff behind the counter. Concealed Carry permit is next; I ain't taking no chances. (Sure don't miss NJ).... Here in Florida, it is about $110 now to apply for concealed carry. Nevertheless, I do not miss New York when it comes to this issue.
The Israeli government is doing the right thing. More guns in the hands of LAW ABIDING citizens is always a good thing.

Nope I use it w/ # 4 federal buck, three rounds. Not bad recoil at all. But then I like to plink with a .500 Linebaugh Bisley sometimes :o) So I may not be a good judge of recoil ........ They make a 20 gauge now also I believe ??

In New York 50 bucks will get you a non-refundable "No! You cannot have a permit for a gun because you're not rich and/or politically connected! Re-apply again tommorow and bring back another non-refundable 50 bucks with you!" You gotta love the fact that Donald Trump, Howard Stern and Arthur Ochs Sulzberger have concealed carry, but a regular law-abiding citizen like me couldn't carry while walking through the Bronx (or anywhere else for that matter).
There is a stripper on this site (I think her screen name is "wdreamsgirl") who got her concealed carry permit beacuse her boyfriend was a cop. I guess when I move back to NYC, I will have to find one of New York's finest to be my girlfriend! Or maybe I can bribe a politician for one, like they used to do in Philly before statewide concealed carry was enacted in Penn.

Yikes. So this is why I'm doing it now. I figure it won't get better than $5, 2-3 days. So move down here. Not only are the gun laws friendly, but the weather's great, housing is better, and the state is really beautiful in the mountains and the beaches. (Sorry, 'shore') Isn't North Carolina now filled with obnoxious transplants from New York and New Jersey, much like South Florida is?
(BTW: I know of what I speak, as I am a transplanted New Yorker living in Florida).
