The USA is being set up for another Vietnam by the liberal media.

The HEROES who died in defense of our freedom are transformed by the left into victims of the "GOP's military industrial complex selfish attempt to win more defense contracts"

We are surrounded by enemies both foreign and domestic.

The struggle of Israel to survive the Islamic hoardes agression is a telling example.

The farce of the "Saudi plan", a plot hatched by a PR firm in the employ of the evil Saudi government, is already being heralded by liberal media throughout the western world as a panacea for what ails the region.

The truth is that Israel will be forced to accept a retreat to it's indefensible pre-1967 borders by a promise by the Arab League of all entities, to "normalize relations" with Israel.

Note that the lack of language recognizing Israels very right to exist is no longer even an issue to the leftists.

If Israel accepts the "Saudi Plan", it will be exterminated.

If it does not, WWIII is soon to follow.

This is an example of a good article with a needlessly provocative title.

Gee, you're so full of brotherly love and affection.

Did anyone ever mention a Section 8?

What IS up your butt, anyway?

I have no way of knowing, so I'm purely speculating.

But is it possible they just didn't have the correct gauge of how strong a level of resistance to expect?

Stuff happens.

BTW, I saw the last half of one of my all-time favorite war films tonight: The Bridges at Toko-Ri with Grace Kelly (libido alert) and Bill Holden.

The last half-hour of that movie, especially the end-scene between the carrier skipper and the CAG, pretty much hits the nail on the head for this entire discussion.

"Where do we get such men?"

I do not disagree with anything you're saying. I humbly submit that the belief that "only a vet" can understand any of this is a trite truism. I think there are a lot of things that non-participants in whatever field of human endeavor you care to name, can share in vicariously.

This war is our common national experience. And "they also serve who only stand and wait."

Agreed. And anyone who thinks the title is a throw-away doesn't understand the value of good P.R.

This is an example of a good article with a needlessly provocative title.

FWIW, I did NOT choose the title. Hit the hyperlink for the article, and see for yourself... Incidentally, I do agree with you, regarding your assessment. However, I thought it would be only fair, to headline it with the same title I saw it under, from the www.WorldnetDaily.com website. After reading the article, and realizing that it was written by a real patriot, who has done his time in the trenches... I decided to post it as he intended it to be seen...

Of course, the weak-kneed, who don't understand this, will be in a complete snit over this, and will continue to not understand...

that "only a vet" can understand any of this is a trite truism.

You may feel that way, but your feelings don't mean anything when compared to reality.

It would be the same thing as saying, "only a woman" can understand what it is like to be raped... This is NOT to make light of such an occurence. But how can a man understand what that experience is like, for a woman...?

To argue that you do understand, is so patently absurd as to make me (almost) embarrassed for you. You make a fool of yourself, and then tell me I'm being trite???

Yeah, I'll buy that for a dollar! < /sarcasm >

842...

On my boat, it was "go take a flying f~~ck at a rolling donut, in a stiff wind, over broken glass..."

But, I digress... 8^)

Nice to know others out there still got it!

Be well,

Oh come on, now. I agreed with YOU about the article and agreed with Illbay about the poor judgment used in the title.

But to complain about my HAIR color or screen name is a real cop-out. And for your information, my hair is red.

And, as I said in FREEPmail, to look at post #43 regarding the title.

Maybe you might want to look at that, before complaining more, about the title.

The Wall Street Journal, where this article was published, is the home of Max Boot, who lamented that we had won in Afghanistan without more casualties.

In war, soldiers do die, but only someone with a really deaf ear could add that American casualties are a good sign.

Then I might suggest that you read the entire article, before sticking your foot in your mouth....

Because you obviously don't understand it, didn't read the discussion following the article, and certainly didn't read post #48.

Going back and re-reading the above, might preclude having to "nibble" on your other foot...

This post is insane and an example of why "army guys" in the DoD hate "air force" guys. Why in the world were slow Chinooks in a hot area (even if it wasn't hot at the time of their arrival - one must always have a back-up plan). An Air Force A-10 or even a few Army attack helos hanging around would have held back the enemy long enough for our men to extract the fallen SEAL. And no, dead US troops is not a "good sign."

There are Freepers who live for a fight; I am not one of them. Intelligent conversation is one thing, but to continue a discussion going nowhere is not on my agenda.

The deaths of some 50,000 Americans in VN were not in vain.

These individuals took a righteous stand when they chose to honor and sustain the law of the land rather than run off to Canada while their countrymen bled and died amidst circumstances which were anything but clear and well-defined.

It will be well with them when they one day stand before their Heavenly Father under whose hand this choice land was established to serve as the base of operations for His work on earth in these latter days.

And great men whom we both revere as Prophets, Seers, and Revelators on many occasions have said as much....

Done. And I'm still not convinced. It's pretty clear that wars involve casualties. That point could have been made more clearly and without the false dramatics, the cheap attention-grabbing headline and the strawman of the hysterical media. And I doubt your abuse of those who disagree with you will prove your point or convince many people either. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the purpose of an op-ed is to convince people. If the headline turns people off, and the article doesn't persuade, maybe it's the author or headline writer who put their feet in their mouths.
