What does it say about a political ideology that depends on demagoguery, hate, character assassination, and lies in order to survive? What is it like to be part of an ideology that fears truth and honest debate; despises individual freedom, and seeks to subjugate a free people to the almighty State; that seeks to control not only your actions and beliefs as do all tyrants, but your very thoughts as well; that tries to impose on a free nation a forced collectivism that thinking people the world over have long since relegated to the dustbin of history's failed ideas? Ask a leftist, because lies, fear, and increasingly virulent hatred are all they have left. Any lies are propounded that will further the expansion of government power and the oppression of the individual. The entire edifice of left-wing ideology is built on a foundation of sand. But the sand is shifting, and their frauds are being unmasked almost daily. The propaganda organs of the left -- the major media -- frantically strive to conceal the lies that are being unveiled, but slowly the truth emerges. And the more the hypocrisy of the left is revealed, the more intolerant and filled with hate they become, and the more some of them turn to violence to achieve their goals. Even in this age of global terrorism, it is a left-wing domestic eco-terror group that the FBI called "one of the most active extremist elements in the United States". Leftists view humanity as a blight on the planet, they dream of seeing all humanity confined to overcrowded cities (so-called "smart-growth" plans) and deprived of access to open land, and some leftists would like to see the end of the human race altogether (the "Voluntary Human Extinction Movement"). Environmental laws and the endangered species act are perfect vehicles to limit human activity. The improper attempt to deprive Americans of the use of vast tracts of their public lands was unveiled when state and federal agency scientists were caught falsifying evidence of animal habitats by planting fur samples of the Canadian lynx in areas of state forests where the animal had never been seen before, which could have resulted in excluding all human activity from those areas. Congress is now investigating allegations that similar methods may have been used in studies of other animal habitats as well. And the National Academy of Sciences recently issued a report on the cutoff of water last year from Oregon's Klamath River to farmers in the region, ostensibly to save endangered fish that were said to need the water more than the farmers. That NAS study found "…there is no convincing scientific justification at present for deviating from flows derived from operational practices in place between 1990 and 2000." Two federal agencies decided to deviate from the prior practice and cut off water to farmers, which bankrupted many local farms. Those decisions, as it turns out, were not based on scientific evidence. But the water cutoff did help to advance the schemes of the left to restrict human land use. The destruction of individual liberty and the expansion of government power are goals of the left, and global climate change is their excuse to impose those goals on the rest of us. Is the earth's climate changing? Of course -- we live on a dynamic planet that is constantly being altered by the forces of nature. Volcanoes, the tilt of the earth on its axis, its movement in orbit and proximity to the sun, variations in solar activity, all these natural forces and many more shape our planet's climate. But the left pretends that all of these massive natural forces are negligible compared to the smoke from your backyard barbecue or the exhaust from your car. Thirty years ago the fearmongers screeched that the earth was drastically cooling and we were about to enter a new ice age. As a solution, they demanded a massive expansion of government power to regulate our everyday lives, and huge tax increases to fund their crack-brained schemes. Now the fearmongers screech that the earth is drastically warming and we are all about to be fried. As evidence to prove their theory of global warming, they claim that the Antarctic ice sheets are melting and global temperatures are rising. The only problem is that there are no facts to back up the theories that are all based on theoretical models. Satellites have been measuring global temperatures for over 20 years and have noted a slight cooling trend. And it was recently found, to the great consternation of the global warming alarmists, that the Antarctic ice sheets aren't melting, but are actually getting thicker. Of course the media that trumpeted what turned out to be phony tales of melting ice sheets on every newscast and in every newspaper has avoided virtually any mention of the thickening Antarctic ice sheets, and to find out any information at all about the satellite data one has to delve into the scientific literature, because it won't be found in the popular press. Another goal of the left is increased dependency on government, and an armed populace is less likely to feel dependent on big brother to take care of them: "A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. … Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." -- Thomas Jefferson. But the left wants to convince people that lawfully owned firearms have no place in a civilized society (they still haven't figured out how to disarm criminals, but never mind that). Thus their media flaks magnify any crime involving a gun, and ignore any gun used in self defense (how many know that several of the high profile school shootings were stopped by private citizens with their own guns?), so as to distort the public's perception. But that pesky Second Amendment keeps getting in the way of their plan to give only government and criminals a monopoly on gun ownership. So they must convince people that the Second Amendment doesn't really mean what it says; doesn't really mean what every member of our founding generation, those who wrote, debated, and ratified the Bill of Rights, said it means. Then along comes a book called "Arming America" by one Michael Bellesiles, purporting to "prove" that even in colonial times when the Second Amendment was ratified, very few people actually owned firearms. The research was said to be based on, among other things, a review of colonial probate records, and was hailed as a major insight by the left and their media flaks. But then scholars sought to verify Bellesiles' findings, and the problems mounted. For example, one data source Bellesiles claimed were probate records in San Francisco. Except that those early records had been destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Then other scholars examined Bellesiles' sources and commented (their words as quoted in the Wall Street Journal): "careless uses of evidence and context", "misleading or wrong", and "consistently biased". But that hasn't stopped left-wing gun-banners and the media from citing Bellesiles' work as definitive. The latest leftist attempt to seize power involves the election reform bills now in Congress (H.R.3295 and S.565). Our elections have become rife with fraudulent voting by people who have no legal right to vote. Democrats would perpetuate that, by insisting on eliminating any requirement that people produce some form of identification when they register to vote. Democrats pretend that people who are willing to break the law by voting illegally would never lie about their identity when registering, so a signature is all that should be required. And they will use this dispute to demagogue republicans as violating the civil rights of the poor, even though it is they who are holding modernized voting machinery hostage to making vote fraud easier. But in reality, this is not only about rights, but about the civic responsibility of citizens, and violations of the civil rights of lawful voters whose votes are diluted by illegal votes. These are but a few of many examples. One could delve into leftist thought control and the intolerance of intellectual diversity that is inherent in political correctness; the left's attempt to destroy western culture and rewrite history through multiculturalism; their attempts to control what we consume, how we spend our money, and every other aspect of our lives; or any of a host of other examples that show their penchant to use any means in order to impose their totalitarian vision on the rest of us. But their threat to individual liberty and to our Constitutional republic is clear. Left-wing extremists know that their agenda would never be enacted through the democratic process of open and honest debate and fair elections, so they hope to keep the federal judiciary filled with activists who see their role as social reformers making laws from the bench, and thereby impose the left's agenda on the nation by judicial mandate. Federal agencies are already infested with Clinton-era activists to whom the end justifies any means, and the left hopes to keep the judiciary dominated by Clinton appointees as well. This means a campaign of smears and character assassination against any judicial nominee with the integrity to simply interpret the law, rather than making it up to suit left-wing extremists. Thus the shameful smears against Bush judicial nominees Pickering and Smith in the weeks leading up to their Senate Judiciary Committee hearings. It is quite revealing about what left-wing extremists think exemplifies America, that a group with the offensive name "People for the American Way" was instrumental in the smears and the personal attacks against these nominees. But smears, demagoguery, and character assassination are very much the way that the left practices politics. Bereft of ideas, demagoguery and hate are all they have left. Kim Weissman |

All you have to do is take one look at DU, Bartcop or the other lefty sites, and the seething hate is apparent. 'Tis sad, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
There behavior is not unlike someone in the midst of a messy divorce. Spite malace and revenge will eat you up inside, but it can keep you warm on a long and cold night.
It says the left is utterly exhausted as a political ideology. They are bankrupt. Their only means to success are fear mongering, lies, and keeping the populace sufficiently ignorant to assure they can be manipulated.
It's not a joke. It's real.

The gripe of the "new left" is that the means of production exist at all.
The "old left" claimed that their way would serve human needs better than capitalism.
I'm sure most of them believed it, but they have been proved wrong.
The "new left" hardly even pretends to be about human needs. Other things are more important to them.
Unfortunately they are succeeding if you consider that fully half of the voters in this country are content with excessive government, diminishing freedoms, and the right to be irresponsible.
It seems to me that those who are left/dem are almost cult like in their devotion to "progressive" doctrine much like followers of a false religion. The right isn't immune to a cult like following to idealology but not nearly to the same scale.

You're absolutely correct!! This is why then Attorney General Janet Reno stated, in part, that "...people who homeschool their kids are a threat to the government..."! The leftist establishment is every bit as dangerous to civilization as islamic muslims (I'm from the dept of redundancy dept).
Those who buy into the VHEM's thinking could speed the process up considably if they would only pay a visit to Dr. Jack, or whomever is filling his role today.
Of course, the folks responsible for this screed are just "too important" in spreading the Gospel (and believe me, folks, this IS Gospel to them) to voluntarily take themselves out of the gene pool. It's you, the thoughtless American consumer, who are a threat to Gaia, not them. They are the sensitive and compassionate, treading lightly on the soil of Dear Mother Earth.
