If you are honest, you would have to conclude that by comparison, you and your organizations are nothing but hot air. Wanting something and yelling about it doesnt make it happen. FORCE DOES. You are half right. You just refuted your own point though. Before force can be used to make changes, the people capable administering the force have to be convinced to do so. They aren't going to go out on a whim and use force.

To convince them to do that, as you rightly observed, you have to support polititicians who support using force for your cause. Or who will inadvertantly help your cause by forcing some other issue (such as Afghanistan, we didn't go there to liberate women).

However, even in Afghanistan women are hardly "free" today. Granted they are 500% better off than they were before, as is everyone else, but we didn't really solve any social problems over there. They still have a big problem with warloards and banditry on their roads, no one can travel freely, the Sharia law is still in place (with harsh punishments such as hand severing, stoning etc.)... on and on. So our force did make some major changes, but I submit the are NOT to be long lasting ones... unless we want to stay there and enforce them, which we don't.

Ditto in Bosnia. As soon as the "peacekeepers" are gone (and even to some extent while they are still there) the place is going to devolve back to its former miserable state of waring and genocide and other human rights abuses. Our force didn't really attack the underlying problems there which is fuedalism and bloodlust between racial factions. You can bomb them for 20 years and not change that. Only convincing them they'd be better off joining the 21st century and leaving their barbarism behind will change things there.

Therefore, real lasting change can only come slowly and by changing people's expectations of how things are supposed to be. Making people believe that when everyone wins they win too. As Bush says, look how prosperous we are.. it is because of our system ... justice and equality for all. The only way to get that is through political equality in a democratic system. When everyone has a vote, they have power of a sort. The power that can change the political tides. This of course will not work in a despotic system. In that type of system, only violent grassroots revolution will change things (as in the French Revolution and our American Revolution).

Milatary force can be a catalyst for dramatic change. And threat of more military force can keep people in line ... for a while. But real lasting change can only come when large groups of people decide prosperity and getting along and treating each other with decency and emulating the wealtheir/healthier peoples of the world is in their own best interest.

You're quite correct. Even though I hit my DELETE key now quite frequently; I used to sit at my computer and unsubscribe from the porn and regular bulk e-mailers and spammers (which I never subscried to in the first place), only to get even more from them. I tried personal notes, contacting ISPs (even in foreign countries). My efforts were for nada, zip, nil, in otherwords; for the most part had no effect at all.

I do use special e-mail programs that has eliminated some of the garbage spam (porn or regular spam), but I do not have heavy filters on my e-mail programs.

I receive a lot of e-mail and many new users to the internet actually do have free email accounts with addresses that look like spammers, but are not (ie Bob898 or Jane123).

Right now DELETE is the hot key on my e-mail program.

Mr. Paulson, after reading your statement, my husband and I can see that you really know nothing about conservatives, religion, or ethical leadership. We did find this statement of yours interesting: "they want to test every body's panties to see if they can find evidence of sexual misconduct." As you may already know, a rape victim's underwear may be tested for evidence when law enforcement suspects the crime of rape may have occurred. Also, the suspect's "panties" may be tested, too.

It's really more than that - many of these spammers can't be traced - they send backdoor files that can reveal the content of your computer and who knows what other devious things are done. I strongly suggest everyone to get a firewall like Norton so you can see how many times others try to infiltrate your computer.

I get alerts from S. Korea, Czechoslovakia, Bejing China - and I even got one from Reston Virginia (home of the CIA) - no kidding.

It really is a creepy feeling when I get these alerts - it really is a sense of being violated. Something definitely needs to be done.
