I'm a Christian as well. I watch movies like Bloodsport, Die Hard, and I watch WWF. Does that make me less of a Christian? I don't think so. I don't think God cares what someone watches on TV. I think God cares about the actions people take in the real world.

So, men who consume porn are just poor helpless victims. That's a surprising assertion from someone I take to be a conservative.
The fact that some small number of men who look at porn commit criminal or evil acts does not mean that the solution is to make porn a crime. That is based on the notion that the rights of individuals is based solely on the behavior of the few miscreants found in any society. I do not subscribe to that view. I regard it as a cowardly retreat from crime and evil. Attacking me may be easier and safer than attacking a criminal, but it solves nothing.

She'll be running to Angle next.....

Porn at best is the symptom, not the cause. Oh, you say it is the cause, because Congress says so? Surely you know better than to look to politicians for moral instruction! I'll bet if you asked Bill Clinton he would parrot the same thing. Surely you know he's lying!
Among 932 sex addicts, 90% of the men and 77% of the women reported pornography as significant to their addictions
I'm not surprised they would say that. Dodging responsibility for one's problems is always an easy way out.

You can watch it, but those aren't values expressed in Christianity. No matter what denomination you are, the promotion of immodesty, indecency, homosexuality, and the degredation of women, isn't acceptable. The culture is slipping into hedonism--everything is subjective. If it continues the government will continue to expand because they will step up to regulate the behavior caused by the loss of morals.

Your statistics show correlation, but not causation. For example, you claim that 90% of male and 77% of female sex addicts used porn; I'm surprised the numbers aren't higher. It seems far more likely that sex addicts would be drawn to porn than that porn would turn an otherwise normal person into a sex addict. Ditto for "serial sex murderers" and child molestors.
I do commend you for not running to the government to ban behavior you don't like, and I fully support your right to speak out against it.

Gag. Did you see it Monday? I was so happy that HHH beat Angle. I really despise him.

You have yet to refute that porn isn't degrading and dehumanizing. In the world of moral absolutes, it is. I'll agree with your last statement about responsibility--now--will you please ackowledge the power and influence of words, pictures, and ideas? Like I said before...if what we read and hear affects our thinking, and thinking influences behavior, then pornography indeed can have a damaging impact on conduct. These result in consequences.

If it continues the government will continue to expand because they will step up to regulate the behavior caused by the loss of morals. Only if we let them. Unfortunatly, while you personally aren't calling for govt control, many of your allies or people who claim to be your allies, are. Joe LIEberman is the most notorious. Brent Bozell is calling for it. The fascist Bill Bennett is another. So is Bill Klinton pushing for it.
That's why your side gets so much hostility from libertarians. The key word is GOVERNMENT.
To: Bella_Bru
I missed it. GOP meeting...at an Irish pub.....and I gave up drinking for Lent. :(

So, we're slipping into hedonism? I wish I could, but the sad fact is it costs too much.:-)
You seem to believe that this country is a big heaving sea of fornication. You must live in a different country than I. It's hard to get a date at all where I live. Oh, I know. That's caused by porn too. Everything is. Well, I can see how simple that makes things.
To: Dan from Michigan
Ok, at No Way Out, Stephanie was guest ref for Angle and HHH' match. Angle won, of course. So, on RAW, Flair had them enter into a re-match, and told Sheph if she sets foot near the ring, HHH automatically wins and goes to Wrestle Mania.
To: Dan from Michigan
Sorry, but Klinton and and LIEberman aren't my allies. There is no comparison between us.
I use this forum to speak out--I don't impose myself on anyone. I just try and sway people in the arena of ideas.
I'm worn out from trying to debate 10 people at once. Have a nice evening. Regards. =)

I acknowledge that ideas have power, but I don't think I see it quite the way you do. I believe 1)that ideas have power, but are not
all-powerful; if they were we would be nothing but puppets; and 2)some ideas have more power than others.
Surely you can see that we have some control over the matter. If we did not, we would be like boats without rudders, pushed this way and that anytime an idea or picture or image appeared. I don't think Joe Camel made anyone smoke. I don't think Playboy makes anyone a pervert. I don't think guns make people into killers. Where would morality fit into a world where such things actually happened?

Thanks for post 135. I'll answer it later tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm flat exhausted at the moment. Have a nice evening. Regards.

You have yet to refute that porn isn't degrading and dehumanizingTo you, I'm sure it is. To me it is not. I decide what I think and feel, about women or anything else.
I asked you how your position could be a "moral absolute". Your answer seems to be "because I said so". Even if I knew you to be an authority on such matters, that would not be good enough. As it is, I don't know who you are, and thus won't accept that.
To: JMJ333
OK. It's really time for me to turn in, as well. Pleasant dreams.
To: mackattack
You're guess is as good as mine. I'm still confused as to why chosing not to breed rather than merely hoping not to breed reduces my sovereignty over myself. Probably gonna be one of the usual kooky double talk answers that will keep me out of church even if I change my mind about atheism, probably something like: the only path to freedom is submission to the Lord.

George Carlin say he found that when he switches hands he gains a stroke, that's his special talent.
